Syrian Pride Kept Steve Jobs Estranged Biological Father From Reaching Out

For some, it may come as a surprise to learn that the late Apple co-founder and visionary Steve Jobs was adopted. While reports indicate Jobs had contact with his biological mother, Joanne Schieble, it seems he did not have contact with his birth father, 80-year-old Syrian-American, Abdel-Fattah Jandali.

The couple were young and unmarried so the baby was given up for adoption by Paul and Clara Jobs. Ironically, not long after the adoption, Schieble and Jandali did marry, producing one other child — a daughter named Mona, who Jobs was reportedly close with. Soon after the couple divorced.

Jandali had expressed regret at giving up his son for adoption, asserting that Schieble gave him no choice in the matter. In a rare August interview, Jandali told the British newspaper The Sun: ”When Joanne told me she was pregnant I said I would marry her so we could bring up the baby as a family. I was very much in love with Joanne. ”

“Sadly, her father was a tyrant and forbade her to marry me as I was from Syria. So she told me she wanted to give the baby up.”

Jandali claimed that Joanne moved to San Francisco to have the baby in secrecy, adding:

“She didn’t want to bring shame on the family and thought this was the best for everyone. I was sad and angry but I had no choice but to go along with her wishes.

“I honestly do not know to this day if Steve is aware that, had it been my choice, I would have loved to have kept him.

“I didn’t even know when Joanne had the baby and I was not there on the day she passed him to the Jobs family. I had no say in who was going to adopt my son but I knew Joanne had insisted the Jobs family make sure he received a good education. I was happy about that.

“And let’s face it, they appear to have done an incredible job.”

Now, upon learning of his son’s passing, Jandali, a former political science professor at the University of Reno, Nevada, had “nothing to say.”

However, in the August interview Jandali had much to say about his son:

“I live in hope that before it is too late he will reach out to me. Even to have just one coffee with him just once would make me a very happy man.”

Jandali said he wanted to make contact with his son before his tragic death but that his “Syrian pride” would not allow him reach out.  He claimed to be afraid Jobs would think he was after his fortune.

“If I could live my life again I would do things entirely differently. And even more so in recent years when I have heard that my son is gravely ill. It makes me feel like time is running out and that I am totally helpless,” he told The Sun.

“This might sound strange, though, but I am not prepared, even if either of us was on our deathbed, to pick up the phone to call him. Steve will have to do that as the Syrian pride in me does not want him ever to think I am after his fortune. I am not. I have my own money. What I don’t have is my son … and that saddens me.”

Jandali also stated that when Jobs fell ill, he thought his son might contact him to retrieve a medical history, but that call “never came.”

    Just wait……someone will claim that Steve Jobs was a genius because his daddy was Syrian….sorry, I mean a Muslim. Just you wait and see….they will try to take credit for Steve Jobs just like they do for everything else.

    Hey guys, I’m adopted, and I have never tried to contact my birth mother, and have no idea who my bio father was. I had two great parents, who I am gratefull for. That said, I have asked God’s blessings on the mother who carried me, and gave me life. Only question that ever remotely bothered me is if she was able to have more children, and I pray she did. I am the mother of four, grandmother of twelve and great grandmother of two. My life has been so blessed, and all because of her two decisions. Of all the great things Steve Job’s did, in my mind he made a huge error in not acknowledgeing his bio-dad, when he opened the door. To have that much anger for him, was not within the tenants of his own faith, I try to follow God’s law to forgive everyone, and it is my opinion Steve Jobs was a bit bitter and stubborn and that was not to his credit. Don’t get all ticked off at me, that’s my opinion,as an adopted person who never looked for my bio-parents. Had they show up in my life i would have told them how gratefull i am for my life, and the good parents they gave me to.

    If you do about ten minutes of research into this seines life you will quickly realize he was just like that other swine Barack Hussein Obama sr. Both were
    - anti-American islamic foreign nationals who exploited the american taxpayer to get a free education
    - exploited their impressionable foreign infidel female conquests
    - impregnated them
    - ‘married’ them
    - abandoned them and the children to return to the home country in pursuit of their own vainglorious ambitions.

      I shared your link w/ an adopted friend who helps other adoptees find their bio families where the law permits. I agree adoptees are over achievers plus lots of issues.
      I just think of all the “greats” we have lost after 1963 due to abortions & BC.

    Thank God abortion was illegal when Steve Jobs was born or he may never had given the world the many innovations that he did.
    It makes me wonder how many “Steve Jobs” were aborted since 1973…

    Another example of our failed ability to give fathers rights concerning their children. Fathers have no rights whatsoever, they have been stripped bare before the law. The feminists won the round and the battle. It’s a travesty. I never could have imagined living in a country where I was a second-class citizen. But sure enough, I have, right here in the good old USA.

    This arrogant perfidious swine was nothing more than a sperm donor. It has nothing to do with “Syrian pride” but rather with the sins of a fallen muslim trying to protect his islamic honor after impregnating an infidel woman before he owned and converted her. It’s not Syrian pride, it’s Islamic contempt.

    Paul and Clara Jobs are Steve Jobs real parents. Thank God, Buddha & Krishna for Steve Jobs….these were the civilizations that influenced and formed his consciousness….Allah certainly had nothing to do with it.

      The quotes were from earlier interviews. And even if he had spoken out after his son’s death, how would that possibly benefit him financially? No one will be changing the will AFTER his death…

      I think a little compassion would be appropriate.

    I can only pray that this “father” realizes that his pride got in the way of true happiness. He lost his soul to a sin many of us are easily drawn into, and in doing so, he lost something even more precious – a relationship with his son.

    Every life is precious – we need to realize that every unborn child has potential and hope and promise. Children are gifts from God, not tissue to be removed at the convenience of the mother.

    This story is a perfect example of why abortion is not an option and giving a baby up for adoption is a great alternative. Imagine if there was no Steve Jobs because he was aborted.
