Tackled Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Forced Off Twitter?

The Dallas Cowboys cheerleader who was accidentally tackled by a 265-pound tight end during a Thanksgiving Day game has reportedly been forced off Twitter after taking to the micro-blogging site to write about the encounter.

According to CNBC’s Darren Rovell, 22-year-old Melissa Kellerman was forced to delete her account Friday after posting two tongue-in-cheek tweets about what happened:

Kellerman’s once-active Twitter page now returns an error message.

“Shame on the Cowboys for pulling cheerleader @MelissaRae off Twitter. Not allowing these girls to capitalize is criminal,” Rovell wrote on his own account.

He added, “If Cowboys don’t trust the cheerleaders to speak for themselves, why do they even interview them for the squad?

As Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Chase pointed out, the team allows cameras to film cheerleader auditions for a reality show, making the decision to stop Kellerman from tweeting seem even more suspect.

“It’s alright when the team controls the message but not when a cheerleader begins to get a following and has the stage to herself?” he wrote. “Witten looked chivalrous when he helped up Kellerman, she became endearing with her laughter and positive attitude. Both the franchise and the cheerleaders looked good after this. Now, only Kellerman does.”

This really isn’t that surprising or even that big of a deal from the NFL. It’s well known that NFL teams control messages. The Cheatriots don’t let any of their assistant coaches tweet or give interviews. Silencing a cheerleader is no different than silencing players, coaches, or training staff; all which the NFL does regularly.

It looked like he “grabbed her”, but only in an effort to keep from body slamming her and trying to deflect the full force of the it. When you know you’re falling and going to hit something, you DO put out your hands – think of driving in a car, stopping suddenly and that protective arm comes right out to hold back your child (even if she’s 21 – like I just did with my daughter last month – boy did she laugh at me!). Anyway, you know you’re going to run someone over, you grab them and have them roll with you.

Pro Cheerleaders sign contracts and are classified as a “part time job”. I’m sure with-in those contracts there are clauses regarding potential injuries. I never knew it before bu some of the highest paid cheerleaders only make “60.00″ per home game, and most are “required” to hold down OTHER full time jobs. Don’t feel too bad for them though. Photo ops, and calendar and magazine shoots make it a little more lucrative, and “can” open other doors for some.

Also didn’t know that most squads are required to pay a registration fee of 20.00 just to try out.

I’m not sure what she even said that could be construed as anything other than a mere comment on the situation. This world is taking itself too seriously when a cheerleader is asked to shut up after she makes comments about getting knocked down by a player. I mean if you really think about it for a bit, it shows the fascistic nature of the owners of sporting teams. Don’t give me any line about they can find other work. Just because you agree to work for a company does not mean you forego your humanity. Damnit, we need to grow up in this country, stop being so sensitive to everything and just live the one and only life we have here on Earth….

How does a football team franchise control a personal twitter account? Was it established via the team as a cheer leader? If so, then its part of the job and they have control. If not, this is a violation of personal rights.

That’s what I was thinking. But it does not matter if this is a Dallas Cowboy Cheer leader account or her own. If anyone has seen the way they run that outfit you know it is their way or the highway. The admin that run that squad are very very strict always have been, you have to know that when you join up.
