Take a Guess: Are America’s Tax Cheating Politicians Mostly Dems or Republicans?

The answer? The party of Charlie Rangel is guiltier of cheating on its taxes–and by a large margin too.

With tax day nearly upon us, here’s one way to take a break from those IRS forms: sifting through the gallery of politicians who have been embroiled in tax controversies over the past 20 years.

Take a Guess: Are Americas Tax Cheating Politicians Mostly Dems or Republicans?

Via The Daily Beast comes this report of  ”America’s Tax Cheating Politicians.” But who cheats more? Members of the fiscally conservative Grand Old Party? Or the socially conscious Dems? Republicans have such tax cheats as  Jack Abramoff and Randy “Duke” Cunningham among their ranks. But then again, the Democrats have the likes of Charlie Rangel–and Tim Geithner had some tax troubles too, if you’ll recall.

Trying to determine if Republicans or Democrats cheat more on their taxes, The Beast used the methodology described below to find that left-leaning politicians are guiltier of tax fraud than those on the more conservative side of the political spectrum:

Turns out Republicans have the bigger names—Jack Abramoff, Randy “Duke” Cunningham—but Democrats have the most tax scandals by a margin of 18 to 7.

The methodology:

We devised the following points system to rank them:

• 3 points for each felony tax offense.

• 1 point for each misdemeanor tax offense, or official ethics conviction.

• .5 point for each felony tax indictment.

• .25 point for each misdemeanor tax indictment.

…

• 1 point for a state legislator or mayor.

• 3 points for a U.S. representative, statewide official, or federal lobbyist.

• 5 points for a governor or presidential nominee.

      I suspect he’s been put in charge of a covert program designed to teach intelligent conservatives how to go undercover as stupid liberals so they can infiltrate something….somewhere….at some point. Of course it takes years (or inbreeding) to become proficient in “DUH” and so while his efforts are admirable, they are clumsy at best. Plus he keeps giving us hints. :-)

    The breakdown of tax cheats between the two political parties comes out about 3 to 1 in favor of the Democrats. Why would this be a surprise? After all, wasn’t it Biden who claimed about $300.00 in charitable donations on a recent IRS return. And he is not alone. Most liberals are liars and cheaters by nature, very adept at taking from others, forcing huge tax increases on OTHERS in the name of compassion for which they take credit. But not OUT OF THEIR POCKETS……..EVER! What skunks and thieves they ALL are!

    Remember laws are for us to follow and not them they write the law. They should all be arrested not censured oh no yell at he got from Pelosi the biggest liar in the bunch. This what we get when we the people expect really nothing from our government anymore. We used to think that they should behave better than most of us and they told us they did and we find everyday how untrue that is and we send the same people back time and time again. They need to stop telling us how to live and we should no better by now and not listen to them. When they all pay every year what they should and stop telling us to pay more and then they pay more we maybe should listen until then don’t listen to them.

    It only proves two things – politicians break laws at about the same rate as the rest of the population. the problem is – these are the guys that write and are supposed to at least obey the laws that are on the books. nothing surprising here.

      You are partly right Eblaze44. Politicians do indeed break laws at about the same rate as the rest of America. But you are wrong on the problem. It isn’t that they write the laws…It’s that they make up such a small percentage of the population and manage to commit as many crimes as the rest of us COMBINED! I truly believe that the fastest way to reduce corruption in Washington DC. Would be to take the politicians, and replace them with inmates from any federal penitentiary. I have no doubt, that the “career criminals” from prison. Would find themselves overwhelmed to even come close to committing as many crimes as our dear elected officials do without breaking a sweat!

The CBC is made up of a nest of vipers who are more interested in filling their own pockets than working for the betterment of this country.       There have been many studies done in the past that expose the Dem’s for what they are. Regarding comparisons between Dem‘s and Repub’s, examples include who the richest are, who makes the most off shore, who is the most charitable (of course the Ohbummers are at the bottom), who takes advantage of lobbyists the most, and others I am sure. the Dem’s are the rishest, make more off shore, are the least likely to be charitable, take the greatest advantage of lobbyists…etc….

      Not really surprised at the outcome of these statistics.

      Most people are honest and they pass on what they did to get a little more on their return.

      Well no big surprise, they use people, the tell them what they want, “Let’s get taxes on the rich” you don’t hear the rest, “as long as it’s not me” The Democrats are the biggest lying B.S anywhere. What I don‘t is why there isn’t more people trying to get rid of them?!
