‘Take That Back’: Rep. Peter King Tussles With CNN Contributor Who Suggested NYPD Is ‘Profiling’ Muslims

Peter King Spars With Ryan Lizz Over Muslim ProfilingRep. Peter King, the Long Island GOP congressman who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, is making the rounds defending the NYPD’s monitoring of some Muslims in New York City. And Monday morning on CNN, he got in a heated debate with CNN contributor, and writer for the “New Yorker,” Ryan Lizza.

Lizza used the non-specific term “the media” to say that some have brought up good objections to the Muslim monitoring program after.

“Is your position that the NYPD is completely above criticism, and that they simply can do no wrong?” Lizza asked. “It seems to me that the media has brought some pretty legitimate issues up and that it’s not quite right to defend the NYPD just unilaterally, which sounds like what you’re doing. So could you respond to that?”

King fired back: “First of all, there is no profiling. That’s the nonsense people like you and others are propagating.”

“I’m not propagating anything,” Lizza responded. “I’m saying there are questions raised about what the NYPD is doing.”

King stood his ground: “I’m telling you there is no profiling so take that back, there is no profiling. You have no evidence.”

After a fellow host said Lizza mad some “good points,” a disgusted King responded, “They’re not valid points.”

    If they are not profiling muslims it is about time they start. If Muslims don’t like it they should not live here or they should begin reporting radical elements among them to help America..not hurt it. Then they would begin to change their image somewhat.

      I know how the Tea Party loves profiling. And they love the Constitution. But they love profiling even more, given that it violates the fourth and fourteenth amendments. You know, the stuff about equal treatment under the law and being safe from unreasonable search and seizure.

      Despite the claim of “getting back to the Constitution” the Tea Party would ignore the Constitution whenever it gets in the way of their prejudices. The same applies to the professed desire for “smaller government” or “getting government out of our lives.” That only applies in issues that don’t involve ethics. If it’s an ethical question, then the Tea Party wants to force other people to comply with their view of right and wrong.

      JZS: So let me get this straight. I’ll put aside the never ending bashing of the Tea Party that you perpetuate on this site but for a second let me understand your line of thought. A bunch of people that are all muslims get on a plane and blow it up and you want to investigate…….. grey haired ladies for more of thier kind? Or let’s see; a group of blacks attack two white people in their car and you would try to find out who did it by looking at…….. Mexicans that work in a field picking beans?

      The fact is that what you now call profiling is actually just plain common sense used throughout history in this country to actually catch criminals. Most people have common sense but there are those that will change the meaning of it by calling it profiling only because it’s politically expedient. Just so happens they are the lowest form of life; they will throw out their values for politics in a heartbeat and politics along with politicians are the worst forms of life on earth. But you keep lying in that bed, we understand because most here still have common sense.

      The single worst instance of homegrown terrorism in the United States (OK City, if you’ve forgotten) was committed by a white, gun-loving, right wing, anti-government person such as yourself. Do you have a problem being singled out for extra searches and wire tapping of your home or whatever based of the fact that on paper you share a lot of Timothy McViegh’s characteristics? You wouldn’t be so quick to shred the Constitution if you were an innocent person being targeted for your skin color and political believes. The Fore Fathers were wiser than you.

      Nobody is talking about looking for a white guy when a witness says the bank robber was white. That’s not profiling.

      But when you start keeping tabs on people like you simply because they are white, own guns and are right wing, assuming they are more likely to blow up another Federal Building or shoot some cops, then that’s profiling. See the difference?

    This NJ congressman is crying about the possible PROFILING of Muslims by the NYPD and the INFILTRATION of their neighborhoods. I wonder if he would have objected to FDR when he interned the Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor?

    what is wrong with people? if white people are blowing up themselves and other people and i go to a muslim or spanish or black country and they don’t profile and stop and talk to me they are not doing their job or keeping their country and citizens safe. GET REAL have some common since.

    So the female reporter has no evidence of profiling but smirks when King asks them to present some. Nope, no liberal progressive ideology with zero evidence to back it up going on here. Truly are in the dark days of journalism and propaganda much like Germany in WWII.

    It’s like the Jet Blue scene from last week. The couple who were removed off an airplane because of a mistake in the no fly list. The guy says it was because his wife wears a hijab. I’ll call B.S. when I see it. The TSA goes out of their way to poke & prode every white, black, Asian, Polynesian, Hispanic, arab & Indian. You see strories everyday about another six year old or a baby being invasively patted down. Whine all you want arab & muslim populations. If you can’t rein in the radicals & expell them for the murderous beliefs they have then this is what you’ll be dealing with the rest of your lives. Either be an American & help us rid extremists from our country or deal with it & stop freaking whining.

      as a 65 yr old white guy-growing up, very seldom were the police called. the neighbors (today called neighborhood watch) made sure we were all safe from ourselves and bad folks.
      not saying we were any better or worse than Muslims-just aware of WHATS WRONG OR RIGHT.
      Honest folks who happen to be Muslim must call in behavior that harms America would be the cure.

    is NOTHING “wrong” with “profiling”. That’s just another strategy from the left so as to politically make them look more “tolerant” and compassionate to the public – plus promote whatever to help the radical Dems instigate their evil agenda They pick something like that (like you are “racist” if you say anything about blacks) – and repeat it long enough with the help of the media they own until it takes hold and makes people feel guilty when they shouldn’t – in order to promote their agenda. Like others have said, it’s only normal for anyone to make a judgement call that is “negative” and “fearful” if the stats and facts show that these are ones to be leery of – which is the basic, needed judgement for self defense and protection. You are STUPID if you don’t. Instead of cowering & going along with this evil strategy, we all need to start standing up against it, pointing out the facts & just plain common sense & don’t let them do this any more!!! It is destroying our country and a matter of national security.
    Re King – he’s always seemed like a “stand up” patriotic type guy but I am still cynical & also wonder does he know what’s really going on at the DHS???? I pray if he doesn’t, he will, along with other patriots (if any are left that are there) —and work to thwart any evil “takevoer” that is planned.

    We just had th NYPD and FBI get caught profiling/staking out the Muslim Population in Newark, Paterson etc….the cities are full of little Muslim enclaves…most of the locals who do convert to Islam are hardcore convicted criminals and the immigrants are from Yemen, Pakistan, Egypt, Palestine or some N. African Country and they have NO desire to assimilate…guess what?…Most New Jersey folks could give 2 ***** about it….Peter King is right on the money…these libs live in lalalala land when it comes to the Muslim Horde…

    Well if the good peaceful Muslims would stop living in fear & out the radicals we wouldn’t be talking about this. It’s that simple. We profile people in our own everyday lives. We look at someone & develop an impression whether we’ve spoken to them or not. It’s basic observatory human nature taken from the basic nature of us & applied to science & law enforcement. If it was 19 neo-nazis who blew up airplanes & kept trying to set their underwear on fire every guy with a shaved head would be profiled in this country. It wasn’t though. When the terrorists propagating violence in the backrooms of their apartments or even a mosque we’re just supposed to look away? Everyone is a victim nowadays. cry me a freakin’ river.

    Profiling for a lack of a better word is ones ‘ gut ’ feeling and a sign of intelligence ! We profiling everything we do in our lives while eating, driving , walking and science is based on profiling . It’s dumbing down of society , plain and simple .

    We are paying 50,000+ highly paid union (and hard working?) TSA agents to protect the traveling public from another jihad attack from some crazy Muslims, bent on death to Americans, because they just don’t like Americans. But it’s so unfair to profile Muslims!

    So instead we make believe these 50,000 over paid Federal union workers are looking for the crazies under the clothes of invalids, 4 year olds and blond hair, blue eyed Swedes. So as not to offend the crazies!

    I do not believe profiling is bad – look, we are not being attacked by Swedes, Greeks, Asians…..no need to surveille them. We are, however, being bombed by radical factions of Islam. This is only common sense that we would watch for them over other groups. I say keep up the good work in trying to keep US safe.

    Of course the cops are profiling. That’s what they do. It’s fine to be outraged by it. It‘s not fine to be so naive as to think that cops don’t profile. Most of these guys can’t run a mile or do more than 5 push-ups, so they need all the “edge” they can get.

NYPD they cant run, they cant get more than 5 push-ups but they can die to go save thousands from buildings attacked on 911 . Oh and just incase I missed anything building 7 fell on its own as well after the towers were attacked and it was from collateral damage like so many other buildings received from the towers falling as well.
