Black Reverend William Owens to Megyn Kelly: Obama Is Taking the Black Vote For Granted, NAACP Pandering

Following President Obama‘s decision to skip this year’s NAACP National Convention, Reverend William Owens, president of the Coalition of African-American Pastors, told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Thursday he was “confident” that the president is taking the black vote for granted this time around.

Kelly said while Obama cited “scheduling issues,“ political writers had pointed out that his political schedule was almost ”completely empty,” yet he still sent Vice President Joe Biden to fill in for him Thursday at the annual convention. Even GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney delivered remarks before the NAACP, a largely Democratic audience, and was booed multiple times.

“Do you think the president is taking the black vote for granted?” Kelly asked.

“I think he is. I’m confident that he is taking the black vote for granted,” Owens replied.

Owens went on to say that blacks have been very “catering” towards Obama, therefore, the president assumes “just because we’re black, we are going to vote for him.”

Kelly asked if Obama had reason to take the black vote for granted because, in some polls, his approval rating among black voters was as high as 96 percent.

But Owens questioned the validity of the polls and predicted Obama’s approval among blacks is not going as strong as it was in 2008, largely due to the president’s decision to support same-sex marriage. Given the way the 2012 presidential race is shaping up, it could be detrimental to the Obama campaign if his campaign sees a dip in support from the black voters.

“I don’t know if the polls we are seeing are correct,” he added. “Our polls do not show he has that great of a percentage of the black vote.”

Further, Owens argued there are “thousands” of black people who will not to vote for Obama and others who are being dishonest by saying they will vote for him but actually plan to stay home on election day.

Owens said Obama should have made an in-person appearance at the NAACP convention and his absence sent a clear message to black voters.

“I think he would have been there if he had not taken the NAACP for granted. The NAACP has pandered to the president, they are doing his will by endorsing same-sex marriage, and I don’t think he counts them as being important now because he already has them.”

He went on, “I think the president is making a serious mistake by taking the black vote for granted. And I think the NAACP has made a serious mistake by pandering to the president and endorsing same-sex marriage.”

      Powell came out in the first election spouting off about Obama..WHY do we not hear from him now???? Lets talk about all the unemployment , obama’s lies, obama’s administration, with Col Powell….

      The mindset that separates blacks,hispanics,whites etc won’t stop until there is no longer a need for organizations like the NAACP/ LaRaza. If you are a legal American you should have all the same rights as the next guy or gal. If you are mistreated for race/religion there should be a standard law that protects us and be done with it. Lawyers will jump on it.There is pandering for political reasons to certain groups and until that stops, we will be put into our appropriate categories. I fear it will take something extreme to get all of us on the same page to fight for this country and our values. Liberals are the minority, we conservatives need to rise up and give them the boot. Maybe just give them California and let them see just how great their socialist eco friendly Camelot will be. With all the gay love and abortions they will soon be extinct!

      Why are people in this country so confused on this issue?????? Barry wants to be black this week. But next week he will be white and use his grandparents. As he did last election cycle. Not hard to figure out. I can’t wait until he uses his fathers Arabic gens for his muslim friends. That will be next trust me.

      Exactly. I actually think it would help if they got rid of “hate crimes” (and “hate speech” that’s the worse one!). If someone punches you due to skin color I don’t think it should matter anymore if someone punches you because you wear glasses. It’s just as wrong and is another thing that is used to divide us. It probably will take something extreme. I also think once younger generations grow up they won’t have the same mindset as their grandparents/parents. Although a lot of the same mindset is being passed on. It’s even more sickening when so called “pastors/men of God” have that mindset; out everyone they should know better. Ha-ha…yeah, they can have Cali. It’s so corrupt I will never set foot there.

      …africans don’t think much of “african-americans” as a whole. people who i have met from ghana (and other african countries) look at american blacks as lazy and privileged in comparison with the people from their homeland…for every hard working, stand-up, black American in this country there two or three with their hand out waiting for freebies or are just not “doing the right thing” (to quote spike lee).

    As days pass, more of the higher echelon black Americans are catching on and calling 0 on his record. They see that he does not have the interests of black Americans at heart nor does he have the interests of Americans in general at heart. He conned them into thinking he was going to hook them up and it has not occurred. ( They should not be looking for a hookup but thats a different story)

    Unfortunately, the message will not be spread through the MSM, or on MTV, or BET, the radio or through their pastors so most blacks will not see this turnaround.

    Many will vote for him either because he is black or there is a D next to his name. If they only knew the D supports the elimination of the blacks as a race, uses them for votes and convinces them they are worthless and all they can do is to suck on the govt teat.
    They were a very proud people many years ago, what happened?
    I have spoken to many blacks in my neighborhood and at work, they are not happy and some hate 0 and others wont show up to vote. Some will, but its not going to be as many as last time.
    If he is betting on that to happen, 0 will be sadly disappointed.

    Before you get all bunchy in the drawers, this group of Americans are black Americans, or Americans. They are not African Americans, they are Americans of African descent. I refuse to hyphenate and divide our country further.

    Its sad but I think that since black america claims to be the most religious of all groups, they would act upon whatever their preacher or pastor tells them to. You can bet that, like a black former democrat said, black america puts their race before God and since they do they will surely get out and vote for obama. BUT we might see heads exploding from the inability of black america to actually think critically on Nov 6th if the decision they have to make is whether to vote for the black man or the black vice president woman!.

    I don’t know why everybody thinks that the majority of black americans are incapable of evaluating a candidate.

    Certainly they voted as a block for Mr Obama in the last election, but Mr Obama was elected because a large number of whites and hispanics also voted for him.

    Mr Romney, in his speech, presently two telling arguements on jobs and education. The NAACP gave him a bumpy ride, but in the end he got an ovation. Most americans are patriotic and desire the best for their country and their children’s future. Mr Obama has proven that his policies fail on both counts.

    One does not have to be a particular colour to see this. Certainly there are those who have been brought up to be racists, but I’ll bet that even some of those are pausing to consider there position. Particularly those with children.

    Obama believes he has everyone in his pocket due to his messianic god-figure complex, mixed with narcissism and sheer insanity. I hope and pray the pastor is right about the black voters getting fed up with Obama.

    The other thing to consider is that Obama knows the election is rigged, or he has already decided when to declare the national emergency and martial law for his dictatorship to occur. I pray I am wrong on this second part; God I pray I am wrong.

    What happened to American?????? I think us white males especially are sick and tired of non stop race being shoved down our throats. illegals especially mexicans have more rights than we do???? I pay plenty in taxes and I vote doesn’t seem to make a difference especially here in Commufornia, NO one is looking out for the white male we should as a whole get just a wee bit more respect don’t you think? we are not all racists however when 99% of the discussion is always about race when most of our taxes are going to support the what used to be the minority, free tuition, no ID to vote how does one cash their disability check or get welfare without ID??????

      I saw Powell on tv a few weeks ago & he said he hadn’t made up his mind. I will be surprised if he doesn’t vote for Obama. The unemployment rate is 14.4% for blacks yet they still support him. Just don’t understand it. It’s the same with hispanics. Do they want more of the same?
