Taliban Now Targeting… Sen. Lindsey Graham?

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has captured the attention of the Taliban after suggesting Sunday on “Meet the Press” that permanent U.S. military installations in Afghanistan would be “enormously beneficial to the region.”
On Tuesday, an anti-Western, anti-Afghan organization called “The Taliban Voice of Jihad Online” released a statement responding to Graham’s comments, claiming them as proof the U.S. is trying to occupy Afghanistan. According to Fox News, the group represents the interests of Taliban leader Mullah Omar.
In a strongly worded, propaganda-style statement in which it called out Graham by name, the Taliban group responded that the senator’s remarks “reveal the colonialist intentions of America” under the guise of a War on Terror.
“Such remarks by a well-known official of invading America clearly shows that the war on terrorism has been a drama, produced by Washington,” the Voice of Jihad said of Graham’s comments.
The Taliban Voice of Jihad Online also claimed the U.S. wants to “loot” the nation of its raw materials in order to capitalize on the shift in industrial development from Western nations to Asia and called attacks on Afghan civilian sites like markets and mosques “conspiracies by the invading America.”
On Thursday, Graham addressed the Taliban‘s claims during an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. The request for an American presence in the region must come from the Afghan people, Graham clarified.
Something tells me this clarification will do little to appease the Taliban. Nice effort, though, Senator.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 4:31pmGraham, all congressional and administration lackeys including Obama should forfeit last year‘s salary for the despicable manner in which they have spent and continue to spend tax payer money they do not have for things like Tom Harkin’s Iowa rural school house, John Murtha’s Jet Port and others projects these career big spenders do not need. These politicians did nothing to earn their wages and they did nothing to add value to society.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 4:12pmI feel sorry for Graham. He’s now a marked target & he knows it. You can see it in his face. I don’t agree with his politics but I wish harm to no one. God help him & his family.
The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979. It took 12 years (I think) but the Soviets were defeated & left. This defeat was possible because of the assistance of the USA, Pakistan & Saudi Arabia. When the USA left, the stability collapsed & the Taliban took over & instigated Sharia law & islam. They brutally, violently, murdered all leadership, murdered people who opposed them, killed all gay people, cut off people’s limbs, etc… Osama bin Laden established terrorists training camps & trained about 10,000 terrorists. Pick it up from here. One of their country’s leaders was murdered by the taliban on 9-9-01.
If you see an elderly person or a woman with a small being beaten on the street, do you help or walk away because it’s inconvenient or none of your business? Tough decision to make, but increase the size of the innocents & the street & what does one do?

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 11:37amWhy do we have to be politically correct when it comes to War? We weren’t in WWI or in WWII and we won those wars. Now with all the wusses in DC worried about offending someone, we’re wasing money and lives while the Arabs laugh and sell us oil. Oh for a leader like Washington who wouldn’t let this happen.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 8:34amThis talk of permanent bases in Afghanistan is unbelievably scary. We are broke, I don’t care if you support the unconstitutional wars. They will end when the dollar collapses. If the Republicans are this so called “constitutional party” now I would love to see the house bring up a bill to delcare war in Afghanistan, and if it fails WERE OUT. Also I would personally love to see them bring up a bill to repeal the Patriot Act. Let’s see if that constitutional reading yesterday actually meant something to them.
You want spending cuts? Bringing home the troops from around the world would save $100,000,000,000,000 per year. Yes that’s, $1 Trillion. Good-bye department of Homeland Security. Good-bye foreign aid. Hello balanced budget.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 6:43amOne very important Senate election in 2012 will be Lindsey’s seat in SC. He must go ! Voters in the state ‘pleaded’ with him not to confirm the two latest loons that were sworn in as “Supremes” but he did. His vote would not have prevented them from becoming justices, but he would have been standing up for America if he had voted ‘no’. We can vote out members of congress and the president, but we cannot vote out Supreme Court Justices . Lindsey is a RHINO and needs to go.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 2:25amI think I heard a little bit of nervous fear in lindsey Though in some ways it does make sense to have a base there I hope that never happens. It just seems like no matter what we do to help these people they still have a religion that prevents them to be civilized. I feel so badly for the women and children. I could never imagine raising a child to be a suicide bomber or allowing an honor killing against my daughter. Even when many of them come here they still have the same mentality. I just hate that our military men and women are still there. We could have ended this war along time ago with more forceful methods. that could have saved more lives of our own troops, but then there would have been innocent people killed. These people will always hate us no matter how much good we try to do for them. I wish I knew what the answer was but I am afraid there is none.

Report Post »i don’t have the answer either.but, you did hit on a very important issue-not using ALL of the military assets at our disposal.as i have posted before-alexander the great was the only one, that i know of,in history to control this region in any fashion.throughout history, control of this region was coveted by many a leader because of the silk routes.how did he accomplish this?it wasn‘t with diplomacy and insane ROE’s(rules of engagement).he understood the the “strongman” culture of these people.so,he went around lopping off heads until they realized he was the strongman.our politicians don’t have the stomach to prosecute a war properly.we send our troops into an ass kicking contest on one leg.that’s why we are still there,(among other reasons),instead of being done and out in less than 2yrs.
food for thought-since the first bomb was hand-dropped from a WW1 bi-plane,there were no more “civilians” in time of war.sun tzu said it best almost 3000yrs ago-”no nation ever benefitted from a protracted war.if you make the decision to go to war,go with all you have and end it quickly”.
if we’re not willing to do that, then bring ‘em home.otherwise, our troops are bleeding and dying for what?BTW-i’m a veteran, not a sanctimonious,pseudo-intellectual civilian talking out my ass.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 12:58amWell If we don’t set up a permanent base of operation and completely pull out we will find our soldiers back in the near future starting from scratch. A permenant base would allow a presence of specialized units to be prepared for not if, but when the Taliban attempts to regain control. Having a Base for striking capabilities wouldn’t be a bad idea. Would have to be an secluded airbase that would allow the Afghan Gov. to distance itself from the Americans while they attempt to maintain control of what they have. If it becomes evident they are failing, the reinforcements would be close by to stabalize the situation. Instead of having to fly in and re-establish a base, why not have specialized troops and equipment at the ready. I think of the DMZ in Korea and how American presence has maintained some semblance of calm these last 50 years. Any thoughts?

Lets just keep building permanent bases all over the world. Why is it our duty to be halfway around the world to take care of another country’s corrupt problems? If the Afghanistan people want to be free, they got to earn it. Just like we had to when we were formed as a country.

Get our people out of their country and keep them out. As far as I can tell, the terrorist organisations have not obtained anti-submarine technology yet.
