Tampa-Area Police Are Prepared for So Many Protesters They Cleared Out an Entire Jail to Make Room

If you had any doubt about what the Tampa police were expecting for the GOP convention next week, look no further than the local Hillsborough County jail. There, police have cleared out an entire jail in preparation for the influx of protesters they’re expecting to arrest. In fact, the temporary facility has been outfitted with a command center, a court room, and even a medical facility.
Colonel Jim Previtera told WFTS-TV that the jail is preparing for up to 1,000 new arrests.
“We’ll take their fingerprints and photographs. We’ll also collect property,” said Previtera. “There are three scenarios, inmates will either get bonded out, go before a judge who will be stationed at Falkenberg Road Jail with a video feed into Orient Road Jail, or they’ll be released.”
But that’s not all. The facility is also outfitted with a number of other amenities:
Officials have created a temporary courtroom, an entire work area for the public defender’s office and the clerk of court.
They also had to have complete medical resources. “We don’t know what to expect. We couldn’t call in 30 doctors and medical personnel at the last moment. So we are prepared with a staff that can handle the most serious cases,” said Previtera.
In addition, there is a central command office. “We will also have access to the Tampa Police incident command centers that will help us with transportation, including what’s going in the streets, ” said Previtera.
“All 116 public defenders will be working 24-hour shifts inside the jail,” Bay News 9 reports.
Some have balked at the idea and are even under the impression that police let other prisoners free in order to make room. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The facility will open for business, so to speak, on Sunday.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 3:34pmJust went to the bank to get some cash to fill up some 5 gal’s for my generator. Had to drive by the Buc’s football stadium.
The Police are using the parking lot as a staging area for vehicles.
Wow, so many cars from all over and different agencies! I even saw a Port St. Lucie squad car.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 3:56pmHi MONK, I guess that is a good place for such a staging area. It‘s actually called The Buc’s Stadium now? I remember when the Tampa Bay Rowdies played there long before the Bucs. Soccer, its a kick in the grass. But, did go to all of the Buc’s first year home games. Steve Spurrier made for a lousy first season quarterback. He was good, but he knew it and did not play well with others, especially the coaching staff. The best thing he did was coach college ball. But, I digress. As for the Port St Lucie Police cruiser, I had read that they are deputizing police from all over the state. Much like they do here for the Talladega races. My wife used to work for an advertising company years ago and had to spend those weekends at the track. I saw police cars from all over the country there. Take the help from anywhere you can get it.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 8:06pmRjjingadsden, that particular stadium has been gone for nearly 14 years now. The replacement, Raymond James Stadium, is in the adjacent lot and is primarily the home of the Buccaneers, but also is home to the USF Bulls football team.
Report Post »The Rowdies only played at the old stadium for a year before the Bucs did, and then were folded in 1993. They recently came back into existence, but they play at Al Lang Stadium in St. Pete.

So you think maybe 5 or 10 “inmates” get cleared out? 20? 30? More? HOW MUCH MORE?
HOW big is that jail? WHO is in that jail? WHAT “crimes” did they commit? SHOULD anyone at all be in that HUGE JAIL anyway?
That‘s why the Founders of America didn’t want … A STANDING ARMY. (What does NYC Mayor Bloomberg call NYC police? Oh, yeah, HIS ARMY.)

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 11:43pmDAN75th, THE MONK filled me in on some of that a little earlier. But, thanks for continuing the update. Never did go see the Rowdies, and I left in early ‘77. The last time I was there was while on leave Dec ‘77. Sure need to get back down to take a good look around again. The last time I saw the Bucs was during their expansion first year and they lost every game. I believe it was either at the end of the game with the Bears, or the Bears was the following weeks road game. But, somebody slipped back into the announcer’s booth as we were filing out. Just had to say what everybody was thinking as the new voice shouted out “Come again to next week’s game and watch the Tampa Bay Bucs battle it out with Steve Spurrier!” Still, miss the area though.

Report Post »USMCFISCELLA, your posts really grab my attention. Shortly before I retired from the Army during the Clinton administration, it took a Marine Corps major working on his master’s degree who passed out questionnaires to the enlisted Marines while working on his final thesis to reveal the truth. When questioned if the Marines were ordered to turn their weapons on U.S. Citizens and if they would participate in an order to remove weapons from civilians if so ordered without a change to the 2nd Amendment. The greatest majority the enlisted Marines acknowledged that they would basically and blindly follow orders. I was stunned to the point of having cold shivers. Having been to Nurnberg (Germany’s real name for the city of Nuremberg) a number of times, the site of those trial vids flashed across my mind. That really worried me then, but today’s new recruits in all services concern me now.

I only got to see Cologne (cathedral), Munich (BMW museum) and a few places in the Black Forest (interesting walled towns). Tourist stuff. “Judgement at Nuremberg” is a great movie that many people have forgotten – pretty damning about everyone involved, not just the Nazi judges that were on trial.

My first tour was out of 7th ATC in Grafehwohr, and we had platoons in Hohenfels, and Wildflecken. Hohenfels was only about forty miles away, but Wildflecken was a 160 mile trip one way. Nurnberg was just due north of Graf and we often went there or stopped while traveling between Graf and Wildflecken. On my last tour while in Mannheim we used to drive over to Koln rather often. Did you see the statues of the German basketball team? Okay, that was a joke. There is a large carving of five WWII German soldiers in the middle of town (Cologne) which the troops that I knew there always called their basketball team. As for cathedrals I had the opportunity to visit a number of them all over the country. A number of the castles and palaces too. Beautiful country. One weekend while I was in the 7th Army NCO Academy which was in Bad Tolz back then, a few of us went out to look around the town, and stopped to eat in a gasthaus that had been built in the 1600s. Sounds like you enjoyed your time there too. Another place that I need to go see again.

No other politician (other than Pat Buchanan maybe) in recent memory has had such problems explaining WHY he is not a racist when ALL things considered lead in that direction.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 2:03pmTime2, You and Republicorp are the only one keeping this racist BS out there. Most people realize how retarded it is. I have had racist friends and family members. Not the lynching kind, but ignorant. Having friends and family does not equate to being a racist oneself. Especially when they seek to change their friends’ minds on the subject. Furthermore, peoples’ philosophies change throughout their lives. Many racists have had life-changing events where they recognized their prejudices were wrong. Young Jefferson wasn’t the same person as the corrupted ex-president he was when he died. Besides you struggle with racism too. You group all Israelis into a group and love them. That’s still racism, and it’s every bit as dangerous as hating a group of people based on religion, ethnicity or skin color.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 2:29pmJUST. Actually racisism and anti-Semitism is ALIVE and well… and continues to flourish within your Ron Paul “Libery Movement.”
I know it’s painful to Paul supporters to have it continually pointed out by myself, REPUBLICORP and others because Ron Paul and his infommercial writers would rather we ignore all the bad parts surrounding he and his ideology and cheering on the couple good ideas he has had.
But the facts are the facts JUST and deserve mention wherever and whenever possible. You can apologize and spin for Ron Paul and I’ll tell the truth as I know it…
To be honest with you…. I think the truth has one out in regards to Ron Paul wouldn’t you agree? He has once again been marginalized (and rightly so) for him JUST being… Ron Paul the snake-oil salesman again this year…

That‘s the spirit that’s what we‘re looking for and I’m glad you expressed your disdain for our first amendment right of free speech,I don‘t like what these protesters are saying either and violence won’t be tolerated but you should know they have a right to say what they want and anyone committing violence should be arrested.

Either way… you just wasted a posting with a circle-jerk comment. Stick to the Marxist comments regarding Obama and you may convince otherwise unsuspecting people here that you’re just another Conservative with an opinion and not a die-hard Ron Paul supporter…

Protesters say the most vile things yet their right to say it is guaranteed and advocating that people be picked up and given a psych evaluation for making a comment online sounds like a tactic Putin would engage in.

Designated marksmen and all. Company to even BN sized elements when done right can make enough noise with boots on pavement, and three foot riot batons on riot shields to drown out even the OWS idiots. Plus the sounds and movement in unison can be intimidating. I’ve only been to one riot, but once we all arrived, organized, and deployed it was over quickly. God Bless those Marines.
