Tampa Cops Discover Bricks, Pipes on Top of Building Near GOP Convention and Police Chief Calls It ‘Not Surprising’

Tampa Police on Alert After Finding Bricks, Pipes Near Location of Republican National Convention

Tampa police said Tuesday that they confiscated pipes, bricks, and other “suspicious” items from the rooftop of a downtown building located just a mile from where next week’s Republican National Convention will be held.

Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor said she believes the items were put there by protesters for use during RNC demonstrations.  She added that some RNC-related graffiti was also found at the building, but wouldn’t elaborate.

However, Fox13 reported the graffiti featured the now-familiar “Anonymous” logo.

“It is disconcerting but it’s not surprising,” she said. “This is normally how things proceed leading up to a large event.”

“Do not be afraid of black bloc,” one of the videos says, encouraging the protesters to come to Tampa and “take a stand” against “corporate America,” etc.

Police have been preparing for the August 27-30 political event for nearly two years. Castor said she’s studied other protests surrounding political events, most notably the RNC in St. Paul in 2008, where authorities were taken by surprise by an active minority of demonstrators who smashed cars, punctured tires and threw bottles in a confrontation with pepper-spray-wielding police. Hundreds were arrested over a few days, including dozens of journalists.

And Castor said she is determined not to preside over a repeat of St. Paul.

Within the past two weeks, downtown Tampa has changed from a slightly sleepy urban core to a patchwork of barricades, gates and even boarded-up windows. Many federal, state and local buildings are surrounded by barricades because Castor said that some protesters — especially anarchists — are known to target government property.

Here is one of the recent Anonymous videos posted to YouTube, where the protesters address RNC attendees and Mayor Buckhorn:

Congress has given Tampa — and Charlotte, N.C., the location of the Democratic National Convention — $50 million each in taxpayer money to try to ensure everyone’s safety during the political gatherings that crown each party’s presidential candidate every four years.

Tampa police have spent about $13.6 million so far on big-ticket security items, including 200 bicycles, 13 electric all-terrain vehicles and one armored truck.

The city said it has tried to accommodate protesters by creating protest zones and parade routes for those wishing to express their opinions, and officials have met with protesters and held meetings with the American Civil Liberties Union over the past several months.

“The vast majority of individuals coming to the Tampa Bay area to demonstrate will do it peacefully,” Castor assured.

However, only a handful of groups have signed up for time slots on the official parade route during the four-day convention, leaving some to wonder whether protesters are organizing other– less reputable– demonstrations in other areas.

    I have really bad news for the protesters that are going to Tampa, The Police there are not going to let you destroy Tampa and hurt people. The Police here don’t care how they do it up north.

    And one more thing, the National Guard already has staging areas set-up. That means they will be there too………

      Remember that there will be peaceful protesters there also. Paul supporters and over twenty thousand active duty and veterans for Ron Paul. I am sure that protesters that want to start problems would not want to do so to those guys. I imagine that there will be tens of thousands of Paul supporters that will make the unruly protesters seem small in comparison. I just hope the police (state) do not use the unruly to go after the peaceful.

If you don’t want to be part of the mess, I’d advise you stay clear of the anarchy and destruction these idiots have planned.       @Bryan, I’m nervous about this. There seems to be a lot more bad cops these days. They’ve already harassed the Ron Paul folks not doing anything. I’m certainly not happy about the guard being there. That’s just antagonizing tbh.

      @WCP, I don’t think the Vets are going to be there like planned now that RP has been shutout. At least there’s no leadeship and security set up. Adam Kokesh isn’t going to be there either.

      @Barber, I actually agree. Too many folks looking for trouble. This is the message I’m getting from the Veterans for RP on the subject.

      I have confirmation from Ron Paul himself that he “has no problem at all with the veterans parade that is a peaceful demonstration against the war.”

      I have gotten quite a few texts and PM’s from people inquiring about the veterans march, whether or not it is cancelled, and what the deal is.

      Here is the deal. Adam Kokesh is no longer involved in the veterans march on the RNC. We essentially have …no leadership and no plan that I know of. That being said I have heard from a lot of people that they want to do it anyways. I have not ruled out that this march may take place. I would recommend showing up at the fairgrounds at the 11 o’clock Monday morning as planned. Maybe I and some others can patch this together if we can get enough participation.

      All ideas and criticisms are welcome. I will however be out of the net for the next 24-48 hours as I travel and visit with family before I leave for Korea.

      Just, Yes, Kokesh is out, I have e-mailed him to let him know my disappointment in his decision. I believe this will hurt him in his online show and he is making a huge mistake. I am hoping that enough veterans show up for the march to make an impact. We will see. I will no longer be giving Adam’s site anymore hits from my computer.

      Hi West Coast Patriot and Justangry, (and Soybom315 if you are around)

      I heard an audio tape issued from Anonymous to Tampa (on WFLA 970 AM) about 2 hours ago threatening trouble in Tampa after their bricks, pipes and graffiti were found.

      Personally, I’m doing the only thing a Monk knows how to do to stop riots. I’ve been on a “40 day and night” vigil to draw in a nasty storm close enough to Tampa to put a “damper” on crowds. I’ve called upon my friend Mother Nature to use my as a homing device until 48 hours before the RNC and then veer the storm off into the Gulf or North of Tampa. BTW, I’m about 2 miles from downtown Tampa.

      You guys do what you have to do and I’ll do what I have to do. This is the Dr. Paul way… correct?

      But, I’m serious. I can bring rain to where it is needed if someone from that area requests it.

      Have you looked at the temp’s and rainfall in Florida for this summer? Tampa and the surrounding areas are cooler than the rest of the US and NO FIRES. I have a few friends around the US that can boast the same thing after I have intervened. Check out Alabama’s weather and find the one County that gets a lot of gentle rain and has lower temps than the rest of the State. Also, Northern Colorado.

      You may think it’s funny but, I’m in control of the weather here and you will be my guest. Bring your poncho….

      @WestCoastPatriot, you must not know me very well. Of course I know that Progressives are in both parties! However, I think the Republican Party has a good chance of redeeming itself and cleaning house if they gain control of both Houses and the Presidency. I’m afraid they (Progressives, Socialists, and Communists) have infiltrated the Democrat Party so much that very soon in the future the only issue on the ballots is going to be “Freedom” vs “Total Government Control”. We need to just face it and realize that what we once knew as the Democrat Party is now completely gone. If you are recommending a 3rd Party, then you need to work on cleaning out the Progressives out of that party as well. They aren’t immune from infiltration either. Currently our best bet is the Republicans, because at least they have a good chance of winning – unlike a 3rd Party.

      @WestCoastPatriot, First of all Romney is not a Progressive, and Ron Paul should have never run on the Republican ticket – he’s a Libertarian. Why didn’t he run on the Libertarian ticket like he should have done? It sounds like he is a traitor to his party, or he wants to distance himself from the Anarchists that are in it.       Tigress1, First of all, Ron Paul has always been a Republican with Conservative Libertarian leanings, except in 1988 when he was angered by the Republican Party with the direction they were going, he ran as a Libertarian. Second, Libertarians are what the Republicans used to be, actual conservatives.

      I had won a trip to NYC –they forgot about the “winner” of the contest (was supposed to go when the sign went up) and offered to fly me (I live south of Tampa) in the next two weeks so that I could see the electronic billboard that had been up with my picture on it since June, before it comes down at the end of the month … I told them NO I was not flying anywhere with the convention in Tampa .. not even from Ft Myers because who knows where the kooks are going to come in from. I am not oging near any of the larger cities in the area … now a hurricane???

      BTW .. I found Times Square live online .. I have seen it there ;-)

    The occupy asswipes in Seattle were given a pass thanks to a call received from Gaybama’s administration.

    I have no doubt that Tampa PD will get a call from Gaybama-ites requesting they stand down as well. Castro has her job cut out for her; Crazy Wasserman Schultz and Gaybama’s right hand clown, Slo Joe Biden have been sent there to provide technical info, strategic advice, legal and moral support.

    The aim is to supress R n R supporters in order to reduce attendance, expected in the 10′s of thousands. The rest will be confronted with violence, and black bloc will run interference between the police and violent ows/blackbloc protesters, who will be leading. UNION THUGS will make up the main body of the violent opposition to R n R – the majority will be bussed in.

    Film, video and photograph at every opportunity. Put the wounded before the tv cameras and be certain to repeat OVER and OVER again who committed the violence – blackbloc/ows and union thugs. Turn the tables on Gaybama and his acolytes by forcing them to take action against their own.

    Otherwise Crazy Schultz and Biden will do ows/blackbloc’s dirty laundry before the media.

      The law does not require THEM to come at you with deadly force (who knows what force is deadly until after the fact?). The law basically is that deadly force may be use to protect yourself or someone else from SERIOUS and IMMINENT injury. Justification to use a firearm does not require that they have a firearm themselves. Please read up on the law and its implications.

      NEWS FLASH The RNC and the Democratic Party are the Communists..They are one in the same..The RNC committed felonies against the delegates of Ron Paul..I understand that one of their security guards assaulted a Paul delegate and they forced them through intimidation to pledge their votes to Romney..volunteer lawyers came forward for Ron Paul and took it to a Federal Judge who ruled it unConstitutional….now the delegates are unbound..but I am sure not without their problems..I have seen Time To End the Ron Paul Campaign threaten West Coast..(I believe a Ron Paul delegate) that they will be having another little suprise waiting for them in Tampa..Chicago style thuggery..Communism at its best..

      There will be tens of thousands of peaceful Paul supporters there, over twenty thousand active duty and veterans for Paul. DVR the convention, it is going to make history, I will be there doing what I can against the establishment, but I expect the establishment GOP will have, like Time_2 has said, illegal things in store for us.

    Interesting situation for “Anonymous” or any other group who feels it may be fashionable to attack someone in Tampa. They need to brush up on the concealed carry laws in Florida. Bringing a “suspicious” item to a gun fight may not be very effective.

    From the comments made here on the Blaze for the past two months by the so-called Ron Paul devotees and by the Far Left Trolls, I am sure that the Republican Convention has been planned as a time when the international Left , the OWS , anarchists and Black Bloc groups, will converge and create chaos and destruction. The anti-capitalist venom they spew is even more disturbing when one is aware of the Marxist background of the present Occupier of the White House. Where will this end ? Hope the Tampa police and the Republican Convention people are prepared . ( They actually need the FBI , TSA and the CIA involved ! This is an internationally organized movement . )

      I know for a fact that many of the Ron Paul supporters ARE left wing. Two of my nephews are as left wing as left wing gets, and they registered as Republicans so they could vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. One of them works for the Ron Paul campaign. And as soon as the election is over and Ron Paul is a distant, albeit batcrap crazy memory, my nephews will go back to the Democrap party. If I have two of them in my family, how many other Ron Paul supporters are actually Democraps in elephant’s clothing?

      Well, when people that claim to be and have posted as supporters of Dr. Paul post videos like the like below and laugh about it…. some posters here do get “bad vibes” about Dr. Paul supporters. I got this link from a (supposed) Dr. Paul supporter right here on The Blaze and he said he was there and it was fun. I know better from reading your and Soybom315 and West Coast Patriot’s posts. Now, if you can get Brother Winston Smith to “tone it down” that would help your cause immensely.

      If it is so, that they are gearing up for war, they are coming to the wrong place to wage it. We don’t suffer the idiots down here. There will be isolated incidents that will, no doubt, make the news. But overall this convention will go off without a security hitch. You can take that to the bank.

      As much as I can’t stand the idea of a Romney presidential candidacy, the lawful process of the convention will not be interrupted; not in Florida. Peace.
