‘Tax Me, For F@%&‘s Sake’: Author Stephen King Slams the GOP & Calls for Higher Taxes on the Wealthy In Virulent Op-Ed

Author Stephen King is known for his horror stories that hold the potential to scare the pants off of readers. But now, he’s using his fame and editorial talents to target more specific subsets of the American public — the so-called 1 percent and conservatives who tout small-government tax policies. In a new article for The Daily Beast on Monday entitled, “Tax Me, for F@%&’s Sake!,” the famed author sounds off on his penchant for increased taxes for the wealthy.

As Inquisitr notes, King has taken a pro-tax-increase-on-the-upper-class stance that mirrors that of billionaire Warren Buffet. The article, which starts out by calling New Jersey’s Republican Gov. Chris Christie “fat,” also claims that charity isn’t the end-all, be-all solution to solving the overwhelming need present in the United States. He writes:
I’ve known rich people…I’m one of them…The majority would rather douse their dicks with lighter fluid, strike a match, and dance around singing “Disco Inferno” than pay one more cent in taxes to Uncle Sugar. It’s true that some rich folks put at least some of their tax savings into charitable contributions. My wife and I give away roughly $4 million a year to libraries, local fire departments that need updated lifesaving equipment (jaws of life are always a popular request), schools, and a scattering of organizations that underwrite the arts. Warren Buffett does the same; so does Bill Gates; so does Steven Spielberg; so do the Koch brothers; so did the late Steve Jobs. All fine as far as it goes, but it doesn’t go far enough.
What charitable 1-percenters can’t do is assume responsibility—America’s national responsibilities: the care of its sick and its poor, the education of its young, the repair of its failing infrastructure, the repayment of its staggering war debts. Charity from the rich can’t fix global warming or lower the price of gasoline by one single red penny. That kind of salvation does not come from Mark Zuckerberg or Steve Ballmer saying, “Okay, I’ll write a $2 million bonus check to the IRS.” That annoying responsibility stuff comes from three words that are anathema to the Tea Partiers: United American citizenry.
So, King‘s point is that the wealthy can’t — and don’t — pay for certain mass projects and institutions that the government is primarily responsible for. Donations, he maintains, do not fill this apparent service void. However, what the author isn‘t addressing here is the government’s appropriation of funds, as he seems to be making the assumption that current tax monies are being spent adequately.
It’s possible, per se, that the government could operate more efficiently without raising taxes on anyone (this is an argument conservative economists and advocates have advanced). However, King doesn’t make this consideration, as the pieces goes on to address multiple related themes that equally overlook some of the facts, while focusing upon primarily anecdotal information.

King also calls the conservative Koch Brothers “creepazoids,“ and claims that most wealthy individuals like to ”keep their dough.“ The angsty author says later in the piece that the ”right wing of the Republican Party“ is now the ”only wing“ and that it delivers up ”fresh bullsh*t” about taxation.
Among these purported “crocks” is the claim that the richer people are, the more jobs they will create. As an employer himself, King dismisses this notion entirely, without speaking about those people who do, indeed, re-invest. Additionally, he warns that Occupy may just be ramping up and that last year’s protests, if conservatives don’t take heed, may just be the beginning:
…it’s not fair to ask the middle class to assume a disproportionate amount of the tax burden. Not fair? It’s un-f–king-American, is what it is. I don’t want you to apologize for being rich; I want you to acknowledge that in America, we all should have to pay our fair share. That our civics classes never taught us that being American means that—sorry, kiddies—you’re on your own. That those who have received much must be obligated to pay—not to give, not to “cut a check and shut up,” in Gov. Christie’s words, but to pay—in the same proportion. That’s called stepping up and not whining about it. That’s called patriotism, a word the Tea Partiers love to throw around as long as it doesn’t cost their beloved rich folks any money.
This has to happen if America is to remain strong and true to its ideals. It’s a practical necessity and a moral imperative. Last year, during the Occupy movement, the conservatives who oppose tax equality saw the first real ripples of discontent. Their response was either Marie Antoinette (“Let them eat cake”) or Ebeneezer Scrooge (“Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?”). Short-sighted, gentlemen. Very short-sighted. If this situation isn’t fairly addressed, last year’s protests will just be the beginning. Scrooge changed his tune after the ghosts visited him. Marie Antoinette, on the other hand, lost her head.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 2:29pmThe concept of ‘Crazy’ is just a movable window that those in power move from time to time to maintain their power-hold, when things are really a matter of good, and evil. Because evil purports to take away things that don’t belong to the evil – such as someone’s life, someone’s purpose in-spirit (what they need to learn), someone’s wealth they created from nothingness. Evil is usually all about action, while good is about inaction, because there is more action in inaction.

Taxes aren’t optional. If there is inequality between tax payers, it shouldn’t be left up to the just among us to compensate for the greed of others.
In other words, the rich pay less in taxes than they have in over 30 years and they pay a considerable percentage less than the middle class. That is an inequality. These “liberal” rich people understand this, but they shouldn’t be expected to correct the problem alone.

Fist off, taxes are optional. It is a choice. However, one must be willing to suffer the consequences of failure to pay taxes. Secondly, you call for the rich to pay more in taxes to compensate for the short fall of government spending. However, you do not address those that do not pay taxes and/or receive a refund that is higher than the taxes they have paid making their net taxes paid negative. How is that fair? Lastly, stop being brainwashed by your ideological leaders. Be your own person and pay some taxes (no, I do not believe you are one that pays net taxes however you are one to blame others for your own shortcomings).

People that get their tax refunds back do so because they are TOO POOR to pay taxes. The wealthy paying less in tax is disgusting. They earned it, and good for them, but being successful shouldn’t entitle you to keep a greater PERCENTAGE of your income.
I’m not calling for the redistribution of wealth in its most literal sense. I’m calling for the wealthiest Americans to pay an equal portion of their annual income – not more, and not less, than what every “normal” middle class American pays.
Also, you have some saying, “stop being brainwashed by your ideological leaders.”. You are being brainwashed by the wealthy elites into rallying for THEIR benefit. The concept that wealthy people create jobs is ridiculous and you playing right into their game.
“Be your own person and pay some taxes (no, I do not believe you are one that pays net taxes however you are one to blame others for your own shortcomings).”
Report Post »I pay taxes, thank you. And I don’t blame anyone for my personal shortcomings, but I do blame big business for the economic shortcomings this nation is experiencing. Alas, you do not understand simple mathematics… So, as you state… The poor get more back and then go to state that the rich need to pay the same percentage…
Take gross taxes paid – refund = net taxes paid
Then divide net taxes paid by grossable income = percentage of taxes paid
Once you compare apples to apples, then come back and talk to me about paying the SAME PERCENTAGE… Here’s a little hint… If your refund is greater than gross taxes paid, the net PERCENTAGE is less than 0.
Once again, you are brainwashed by your ideological leaders advocating TAX THE RICH MORE… No, the fair system is that all poor, middle, and upper classes pay the same percentage with no deductions, credits, safe havens, refunds, etc… Which is something the progressive tax system does not allow…
Lastly, it does not matter if you think I am brainwashed by the rich or not… But to clairfy, I am not the one calling for more taxes on the rich, trickle down economics doesn’t work, etc. You are stating talking points from the leftist ideological leaders, I am not stating talking points by anyone, just giving my own opinion… So please tell me again, who is brainwashed? The one that spews talking points or the one that does not?
And I stand by statement that you do not pay taxes, but let me clarify… Your net taxes paid is 0…

However Misery loves company, so I guess he is asking the rest of us to have our legs broke as well (pun intended).

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 5:54pmYes, it was King. Hit by a van. Most people would have taken such a brush with death as a wake up call to re-evaluate their lives. Not King. He went whole hog into bashing America and embracing Communism.
BTW – Koontz wasn’t hit by a car, his dog passed away.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 1:36pmThere is absolutely no point in raising taxes on “the rich” (whatever that is supposed to mean, since its definition changes depending on whom is speaking) until the SPENDING is corrected. Fix the spending, then eliminate tax break loopholes for everyone, and THEN set the taxation levels to be uniform.
An American citizen should not be punished for making a profit. And an American citizen should not be rewarded for not making a profit. Each should bear their fair weight of the tax burden (but then again, we can argue over what is fair till we are blue in the face). But fix the SPENDING.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 1:35pmThese ******** that demand to be taxed more, are the very ****** that take advantage of every loophole allowed to make sure they pay little to no taxes. I’d love to see a law that requires that if you ask for or vote to raise taxes at any level, you be automatically audited for the last 10 years, and the results to be posted online for all to see for the next 5 years. Stop the damn tax deductions, make EVERYONE pay 10%.

Is this nut aware he can pay any amount he wants ANY TIME he wants. You dont have to be taxed to pay more. You can send money to two govt agencies to pay down the debt. Why doesnt someone ask Stevie how many tax deductions he took this year? If youre rich and want to pay more you dont have to take any deductions! You can also pay more on tax day when you file your return!
I want everyone to tweet, instant message email and/or post it up on Facebook today

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 1:32pmStephen King is far more ignorant and arrogant than I would have believed prior to reading this OP-ED piece. Who designated this guy a spokesperson for the upper-class, or any class for that matter? Based upon his ignorance and arrogance I would not want King making decisions for anyone outside his immediate family. Another guilt-ridden, do-gooder who believes he knows what’s best for everyone. I would consider King credible if he had any understanding of our system of government, our founding political philosophy, and economics.
