Tea Party Favorite Allen West Explains Why He Supports Boehner’s Controversial Plan

The Republican Party isn’t a unified front right now. At least not in the House. There are some congressman who don‘t think that Speaker John Boehner’s debt plan goes far enough. There are others who think that even though Boehner‘s plan isn’t perfect, it’s the next-best thing. And many have accused the Tea Party Reps. of being in the former camp and sabotaging any compromise. But there’s one Tea Partier who is breaking the mold — Allen West.

(Read our update: West Responds to Tea Party ‘Schizophrenia’ Over His Boehner Support)

West appeared on Fox News Friday morning to explain why he is supporting the Boehner plan even though it may be unpopular among staunch conservatives to do so. According to him, it’s a position he arrived at after “I searched my own heart and I understood that this still allows me to stay within my principles.”

“We can sit around and wait for the 100 percent plan, but as I said in a short speech I [gave] at a GOP conference a few days ago, this is a 70, 75 percent plan that gets us to continue to move the ball forward down the field, and that’s why I’m supporting it,” he explained.

“This is not the perfect plan as I said. One of the things that I’m not warmed over about is this joint Congressional committee,” West said. “But I know you can’t come up here expecting that you are going to get your way each and every time. I think John Boehner’s plan is far more superior to Harry Reid’s plan and is far more superior then anything to come out of the Senate, which has not passed a budget in 820 days.”

You can watch the interview below, in which West also explains the closed-door GOP meeting that included a clip from the movie “The Town:”

In other words, he wouldn‘t fit into John McCain’s definition of a “hobbit.”

You people are unbelievable. I am a tea party member. What do you people want with only controlling the house. And let’s not forget, yes rep have the majority in the house but alot of the rep are progressive. We need more conservatives in the house and we need a majority in the senate. I am not wild about Boehners bill but we have to take what we can get.

      The Toad,
Please Mr. Toad, Rep West is America’s best chance for recovery. He can serve as a congressman, a senator, or preferably as our next President. What we need is LEADERSHIP, and Allen West displays it all over. Rep. West‘s decision shows that he is able to think something through to it’s most logical and best conclusion. When a person is inextricably ‘locked’ into something he is probably doomed to failure. ‘Smart’ compromise can actually be a good thing. It sure beats abject failure as the alternative.

No he’s not. The repubs need to pass Boerners bill. Why? Because they are NOT going to get ALL the spending cuts or the reform we so desperately want until they control both the senate & house AND the presidency. With the dems controlling even 1 of them they will block EVERYTHING the repubs oput on the table. IF they don‘t pass Boerners bill now then the dems will move on Harry’s so called solution and will win this battle.

It will not last, it is corrupt, the biggest mob makes the rules!! WE elect these people to represent us…MOST of them have sold us out, but that is the system we currently have. The correct thing to do is walk away from increasing Obamas credit card limit. The CBO says doing nothing is a 9 trillion dollar cut over ten years. Doing nothing makes Obama live inside the current debt ceiling, much the same as balanced budget now! Let God and the stock market put the whole thing back on track!

Everybody is saying that we are already downgraded unofficially and we will be downgraded officially with either bill passing. The agencies wanted 4 trillion in real cuts not to downgrade. This is just an exercise to avoid blame. Weeks from now we will again find out we have been duped and West, Bonner, and the rest well intentioned failed to see the big picture. Palin sees the big picture and she is the true hope America needs. Even this clip from morning Joe with a guy from Business week and a scholar tells the real truth. Telling why we should be focusing on the fiscal gap.

The House and the Senate can continue in a dead stalemate or, the House can pass a bill that goes far toward cutting spending and not raising taxes. If Boehner’s bill passes. then the House has done its job and it will be on the backs of the Dems to either pass it or not. If they don’t pass it, then who is going to get the blame if the August 2 deadline comes and goes without a bill? The Dems. They can try to spin it all they want but if they don’t have a viable alternative and they refuse to pass the House bill or to sit down with the House to come up with a compromise, then it is all on the Dems and Obama’s back. I think the Repubs have made their case pretty well that spending must be cut at least equal to the amount of the raise in the debt ceiling. Its the Dems that are wanting to continue to spend us into oblivion. My prediciton is, no matter what plan the House or the Senate come up with, Obama will veto it because he WANTS the default. It will go far to creating the crisis he has been waiting for to bring this country down. I say, pass the House bill, put it on the backs of the Dems. But Boehner and West and the rest of the House Repubs need to go on every news channel and talk show they can and explain their bill and the reasons behind it, preferably before the Dems have a chance to make up some good lies about why they won’t pass it.

Hey Toad are you old enough to vote? Or do they just send a ballot to your house and you fill it out because you got it before everybody else and your told who to vote for. Have you been elected to school ASB or any other elected Office because the way you’re posting shows your did not learn enough in Civics Class about how to Govern instead of give fancy speeches.

In Politics of a Representative Republic sometimes you have to say that is as far as I can get to my goal, take a rest rejuvenate and then go at it again. Because your just one in a group and if the group does not go your way completely, if you decide to move in a different direction than you initially started that if you stay with the group that when their plan does not work you can still be there with the group to tell them let’s try my way.

So let’s stop with the Extremism, I believe in the T.E.A. Party and its principles. I will defend them until I die, but sometimes reality deals you a hiccup and you have to be smart enough to adapt to the hiccup and move on towards the ultimate goal, which here is a “BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT” so that it would take a 2/3rd majority to create it and a 2/3rd majority to repeal it, repealing it is harder than creating it, just look at the HealthCare Bill that was crammed down the Halls of Congress by the Apollo Alliance, you know that Senators and Representatives could not string that many words together to hide panels and tax increases inside a 2K page bill.

I agree with you folks. Allen West just gave the RINOs, Democrats, and Mr. Obama more power the instant he voted for John Boehner’s weak bill. Compromising your principles just to befriend the opposition is one of the reasons why we’re in this financial quagmire. I would much prefer seeing the government being engaged in gridlock and even shutting down over seeing the government passing a bill that does nothing except potentially exacerbate existing problems. When the government is engaged at a stalemate, or is shut down (and I prefer the latter), it means that Mr. Obama will be forced to allow the debt ceiling to stay where it‘s at and we won’t have to worry about being slammed with new taxes.

Please let me explain this “cut”, if i spent $100 on pencils and next year i plan to spend $200 dollars in pencils, but I’m going to spend $150 on pencils. Only in Washington would that be considered a $50 cut.
For the ones that want to move the football down the field and just pass something that the senate and Obama likes then we might as well let them write a bill and pass it because the Democrats and Obama are not going to like anything that the republicans pass, in other words, the republicans will write a bill, and Obama will say no, republicans will keep writing bills until its something that Obama likes.

      Mr. or Ms. Toad,
Cut, Cap and Balance is recognized as the plan that will solve many problems now and in the future. it is what WE need. it was taken off the table by Harry Reid. Let me know of one person, including yourself, who can get it back on the floor of the Senate while Harry Reid is in the way. Until the CCB can be debated on the floor, anything and everything should be done to move US toward a balanced budget amendment. and Oh by the way, WE have to keep the government running and keep OUR Seniors taken care of and Medicare has to be paid and the Military has to operate and so on. CCB is top priority. until WE can get debate on CCB don’t you think WE should do anything and everything WE can do to move toward a balanced budget amendment. a balanced budget is the only way to keep US from having to raise the debt ceiling again and again. WE have to keep the pressure up and WE have to keep pushing foward. putting foward a measure, watching harry reid put it on the shelf then folding your arms and sticking your lip out and whinning about it won’t get the job done will it. that is what quitters do. don’t quit, keep the pressure up, keep pushing and keep turning up the heat and when WE get the job done it will all be worth it. don’t you think? let’s be smart and realize that anytime WE get a chance for any politician to vote for a balance budget it is a step foward and how in the world can that be caving especially after WE got tax increases off the tab

On the contrary, West is only being realistic about what a freshman in Congress is able to do and not do–and doing what he can to “move the ball forward” on Conservative concerns and values. I see nothing traitorous or unprincipled in what he did. He has to deal with the realities of this SnakePit of special interest money and corruption that Congress has become as best he can. I say he is right. If Tea-Partiers keep “eating their own” this way, the “last man standing” will be ODUMBER–is that what you want? Smarten up a little. Rabid idealogues sometimes chew off their own foot out of sheer meanness. We Tea-Partiers have been accused of that often enough by the MSM–let’s not become a self-fulfilling prophecy for those jerks, OK? I agree–we need to bat the ball right back into ODumber’s court, so that HE is on the hotseat for inaction. Right now he is turning down everything the Republicans propose, all the time screaming loudly about how the Republicans are “playing politics” with the nation’s credit rating by refusing to pass a plan, even though he and the Demorats do NOT really HAVE a plan of any kind, except trying to save their sorry political a$$es in 2012. Well, PASS one–and the SOB will be FORCED to either accept it or VETO it–and it will be on HIS head. He isn’t going to willingly accept ANYTHING that does not give him a pass on having to deal with the national debt again until AFTER 2012 elections. He is trying to push EVERYTHING that might hamper his chance of re-election beyond 2012. We can’t let him play that game! Pass SOMETHING, and force HIM to make the “yea or nay” decision. After all, isn’t that what “chief executives” are SUPPOSED to do? I doubt if ODUMBER knows that–he sure doesn’t know much! So we need to give him a little lesson in “the buck stops HERE on YOUR desk, A$$ HOLE!”

I think you are missing the point. This is NOT about the GOP “having its cake and eating it, too.” The point IS, West and others are freshmen in Congress with NO seniority–and the way the system is set up, there is only so much they can do–and passing a “meaningful bill” will NOT happen, as long as the Demonrats still control the Senate. Passing SOMETHING that gets a LOT of what we want–even if it doesn’t give us everything we want. It likely won’t pass anyhow–because we don’t control the Senate–but it WILL bat the ball back into the Demonrat’s court, so they won’t be able to hang the resulting chaos if they default, around OUR necks and thereby kill our chances of defeating ODumber. We MUST keep our eye on the prize–that SOB has GOT to be defeated, or our country is going down. THAT is reality, and we must NOT lose sight of that!

Obama will be forced to allow the debt ceiling to stay where it‘s at and we won’t have to worry about being slammed with new taxes.”

What you and folks like Toad don’t get is, it isn’t ABOUT “giving in”, it’s about staying in the fight long enough to WIN. Keep your eye on what is important–and THAT is throwing ODumber and his suck-up cronies the hell OUT of our government and taking it back before he destroys the country altogether! THAT is what we need to focus on. If we kick and scream and refuse to pass anything that is not 100% tea party–we will only allow ODumber and the Demonrats to hang this whole mess around OUR necks when it all goes to hell, , then good luck winning ANYTHING come 2012. You people need to pull your heads out of your a$$es and realize we have to stop flying off in all directions and get behind ONE candidate. If we are gong to WIN in 2012, we need to VOTE AS A BLOC–because you can be sure the Demonrats will! To do otherwise is simply to hand Odumber an easy victory. Is that what you want? If not then, WISE UP! You may not get EVERYTHING you want, but you had better make up your mind to support ONE Of these people, even if they are not “perfect” in your eyes. It’s either that, or ODumber will be handed a second chance to finish destroying the U.S. THAT is the choice we have. I can tell you for sure that the way to win is NOT to keep bickering among ourselves about every little point of ideology. There IS no perfect candidate, OK? Get used to it. That is no reason to fight and bicker while ODUMBER trots over the finish line and claims the trophy, is it? WISE UP and start supporting SOMEBODY before we ALL go down in flames! If you can’t DO that, then maybe you really ARE as STOOPID as the MSM is always saying you are! Allen West is very experienced at the tactics of war, be it on the battlefield, or in the halls of congress. He knows that this is just the beginning of turning things around in Washington.

The most important battle will be the election in 2012 when we can gain additional ‘troops’ to win the war. 2010 was just the first battle, with a big win for conservative Republicans. We are now in a second battle pushing back against the other side and their ideology, but with fewer troops than they have at this time, our troops can only begin to gain a foothold into the other side’s territory.

Allen West is looking at the big picture and though not happy with the gains made, realizes that they are gains just the same instead of losses or retreating. I believe that is how LTC West is looking at this issue. He knows that many things need to be changed in Washington, but also realizes it doesn’t happen overnight.

I do believe that the Republican freshman congressmen/congresswomen and senators have brought to the forefront the principles that they stand for and should be proud of what they have done so far.

Americans are beginning to wake up and are finding out that the conservative Republicans stand for what most people in the country do… smaller government, a robust private sector, tax reform and a balanced budget. I believe that is what most Americans will choose over the democrats’ big government, tax and spend policies, tax some more for good measure, no balanced

If we collapse our financial system while standing on our principles, what will be left to RESTORE?

When you decide to run a marathon, you don’t run 26 miles on your first day. If you do, you will have a heart attack and die.

The next wave of TEA Party reps will give us even MORE power. The kind of power we need to get even MORE done.

Tweet enough to get Rinos and Dems to vote it through.
      Then back to the HOUSE.
BUT, this time there‘ll be Dem support and there isn’t enough ‘REAL’ conservative Reps in there to vote this bill down.
      It’ll PASS.

Tom, Forget lateral passes; when you want to win, you set your enemy up for the fall. Nobody really wins by chance, but by understanding their opponent and their tactics, and when necessary employing those tactics against them. You must understand your enemies, their strengths and weaknesses. Know when to go deep, and when to sucker them with a draw.

I think the left is miscalculating their position, and feel they’re 1st and 10 on our goal line; while they’re actually 4th and 15 on their own 20, going into a strong wind. We’ve just sacked them for a loss and are ready to blitz. We know their QB has no arm, no game plan, and doesn’t like the wind in his face.

But we do not yet have the votes in Congress to change that. Until we DO, we have to do what we can, and not lose sight of the REAL priority–which is kicking ODumber and the Demonrats in Congress the hell OUT Of our government before they FINISH the job of destroying the country. That is JOB ONE, people. We CANNOT allow ourselves to be sidetracked by these side issues. NONE of that will matter if ODumber wins again. Do you really not understand that? Please stop bickering among yourselves and savaging every candidate who might run on our platform every time they say or do any little thing you don’t agree with. We have to choose ONE of these people and support them to the HILT–whether we agree with 100% of what they believe or not! If you do otherwise, you might as well just hand ODumber the keys to the White House for ANOTHER 4 years, because that is what will happen. The Demonrats will VOTE AS A BLOC for Odumber. Do you not get that???? If we do NOT VOTE AS A BLOC for somebody, he will win again! We have the numbers to do it, but we simply CANNOT keep flying off in all directions this way. There IS no such thing, and such a fool’s quest will NOT save our country!! I know people are frustrated, but we CANNOT let our frustrations so blind us to reality that we hand the election to ODumber! Too much is at stake. As you said, killing the patient while trying to save him will not do.

If we keep making progress toward the goal, we will win. And when we DO, and the outlook is not so grim, it will be easier to educate people to the truth and prevent this disaster from happening again, anytime soon. That is the only way we can truly “win” and ensure the continued survival of our country and its heritage of liberty. And when it comes down to it, that is what really matters!

All the pressure is falling on the freshmen, when the obstructionists are Obama and the dems in the senate. They are getting a total pass on this (and of course all the “conservatives” on Fox-those friggin jackasses like Krauthammer a telling the freshmen to cave). It is sickening. Where is the strength in Americans. Everything is a lie now. Everyone is talking about compromise, but compromise to what. Everyone knows tax hikes kill the economy. These bills, with the exception of cut,cap and balance, do nothing for the debt or the economy. So if we are not going to do real cuts why have the debates. Just stupid. I said a while ago it is just a matter of time before the repubs cave in. You can see these freshmen are taking heat from everywhere for hanging tough for America. These damn commies in America have one hell of a grip on our great contry. We need real strong Americans like the freshmen to hang tough.

Cut, Cap, and Balance is the only thing that is going to save us. There is not doubt that getting control of government spending is that only thing that can save the US. In a perfect world, that should be the only bill put forth by the House. Its the only sane choice.

That being said, you have to remember that the Dems still control the Senate and the WH. It is impossible to pass anything close to what needs to be done. End of argument. It will not get done!

So what to do? Well, what you do is you build the first step in the staircase. That’s is the best that could be hoped for. If you can’t even get that (which you could push to a Aug 2 showdown) then it makes sense to ‘punt’ until 2012. Give O’Twirp all the rope he needs to hang himself and hope for the best. I think this is what Krauthammer is talking about. However, I really hate giving away the bird in my hand for the two in the bush.

That leaves no choices. Danged if you do and danged if you don’t . In cases like this all you can do is stand on principle. This is why its all going to fall down.

@ Crazyloon…agree in part. Cut, Cap, & Balance is the MINIMUM compromise that might postpone the inevitable. If that’s the case, which I believe it is, how can any other step do anything but not “SAVE” our economy.

We have one plan that passed the House, and its the only plan that might fix the problem. Americans should demand it, or allow the automatic balanced budget to kick in.

So now with John McCain taking the lead joining the Democrats and Obama, their goal is truly to destroy the tea party and remove the threat to open checkbook government. It’s a grand scheme and may work if the tea party falls for it. Really, don’t blame the tea party, put the blame on the rinos where it belongs. The ONLY way we can win the war is to defeat ODumber. And we will NOT be able to do that while we are flying off in all directions and trashing everybody who does not agree with us completely on each and every side issue. You can bet the leftwingers and Dumbocrats will be voting as a BLOC in 2012. We cannot HOPE to beat them if we all run off and vote for 10 different candidates. We need to pick ONE and back that ONE to the HILT. Stop looking for the “perfect” candidate who agress with you on every siingle tiny ideological point. That animal does not exist. Are you willing to hand the country back to ODUMBER for another four years while you are off hunting unicorns? Grow up and open your eyes! God I hate these progressives pretending to be conservative, the republicans should take the Reid plan, attach balance budget amendment to it, tell the senate pass that, and we will pass it. Go on the news, say there is 100% no reason to not pass balanced budget amendment since 3/4ths of the states would still have to pass it for it to become law. There is no way Obama can win in 2012 with BBA on state ballots, and no legitimate reason for him to not want the states to vote on it.

I love how the right gets upset when the left rams legislation through. It is treason they trash the Constitution, they are not listening to the people…Yet if given the chance we do the same thing. Of course our side is “right”, huh?

When things are good, sure, let’s compromise on issues. When our nation is heading towards the road of complete economic disaster, we need REAL solutions. We don’t need compromise. We need to cut our spending, live within our means and tighten the god damn belt. Just because this is the federal government doesn‘t mean the laws of economics doesn’t apply to them. If we‘re in debt and can’t get out of it, you cut your spending and you sell off your liabilities. Right now, we have a ton of liabilities that we can get rid off. DEA, ATF, FDA, foreign aid, multiple wars….. I can go on with this…..

So you either compromise and cut SOME spending…or…you do nothing. Which is it? As long as the bill does not have anything that is not tolerable, such as raising taxes, then something is better than nothing. Unless you have the mentality of a two year old. Do not forget that the dems still control the senate AND the oval office. The price for not raising the debt ceiling MIGHT be overstated, I do not know. Many on the right think it would be very bad too. Whatever…I think the point behind this bill, and what West is saying, is that at least the Republicans are TRYING to reach a fair compromise. If the dems reject a sane (to their side) bill because of their ideological reasons then the onus is on them. They are trying to paint the right into the corner, we need to ensure it fault is placed squarely at their door. This is NOT the time to hold our breath until we are blue in the face. Get what cuts we can, paint ourselves as the reasonable party, and win both houses and the exec in 12.

How can you NOT get this? It is not rocket science! Whether or not the budget is balanced NOW will NOT matter if he wins another term! Boehner screwed up with the CR in December and he screwed up here…because he is spineless and he is part of the problem.
They should have passed CC&B as many times as necessary and forced it down reid’s scrawny little gullet until the dems capitulated for once.
Obama would have had to accept it and we would have taken the first REAL step toward fixing what is broken.
Then 2012 would have been the next logical step instead of the “last hurrah”.

The best plan out there is the one proposed by the Heritage foundation. Even the proposal by the gang of six, though it has some tax increases, actually cuts far more in real-world cash than either of the first and second Boehner plans. Still, it is a far better plan than Reid‘s as it doesn’t use accounting gimmicks, but it does only cut 1billion in spending this year. It is also the only plan that is most likely to pass house and senate. The biggest problem is the talk of stocks freefalling 30% or more. This is coming from economics all across the board. The market is already starting to tank as it is, and there are a lot of people, especially elderly, who now rely on their personal stock accounts to see them through retirement given SS has never done much more than pay rent and buy groceries.

I’m not happy with West caving, but in the end, if we don’t see something pass soon, we run a lot of risks. One scary one are the number of moderates who are polling as against both republicans and democrats equally, meaning they don’t care what the arguments are, they don’t care that Republicans are the only adults in the room, and they don’t care as much about Tea party principles. They worry about the repercussions of nothing, and the Democrats have obviously managed to win the media and war of words and rhetoric. Something they always do, and that means they will have a chance to own this either way. We can’t force sound legislation until the tea party controls

We got cap & balance. They passed the 1st cap and balance in the house from Boehner & they passed the second balance budget amendment from Boehner yesterday! WHAT MORE DO the neo-teapartiers WANT? THE DEMOCRAT SENATE REJECTED IT!! ITS THE DEMOCRATS FAULT & ON OBAMA’S HEAD NOT OURS! These people do not do their own homework and they believe & spread lies about the gop. It’ll be their fault if the dems win this budget battle. The neo-teparty brings us all down because they believe lies & act like liberals, and guess who hears that voice and only that voice? All of your representatives in the house and senate. Guess who amplifies those voices? The democrats.

Wake up the smell the progressive liberal manipulation people! Ask yourself who stands with you on rejecting Boehner’s plan. If it’s the democrats, THEN YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE.

Why people pretending to be tea party cannot figure out this simple concept cannot see this, I will never know. Even Rush has gotten it horribly wrong and is a big reason we are so fractured right now!
