Tea Party Leader: ‘John Boehner Has To Go’

Tea Party Leader Judson Phillips: Speaker of the House John Boehner Has To Go

Tea Party Nation leader Judson Phillips called for Ohio Republican John Boehner's ouster as Speaker of the House Wednesday. Tea Party Patriots co-founders Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler suggested similar sentiments.

Speaker of the House John Boehner needs “to go” and be replaced by a “Tea Party Speaker of the House,” Tea Party Nation head Judson Phillips said in a blog post Wednesday.

Criticizing Boehner’s new debt plan that the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday came up short in spending cuts, Phillips said Boehner (R-Ohio) “has no real interest in solving the problems this country faces. … He worships at the altar of massive spending.”

Facing an Aug. 2 deadline of a possible default unless a deal can be reached, he added: “John Boehner simply wishes to be the manager in chief of the welfare state. His vision of the GOP and the Speakership involves golfing, drinking and not rocking the boat.”

“We need a Tea Party Speaker of the House. We need a Speaker with a vision for the future,” Phillips said, urging members to call the representatives and get Boehner out.

Also on Wednesday, Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin cited a new internal poll of their members that found more than 80 percent were not satisfied with Boehner and the rest of the House Republican leadership, and nearly three-quarters would like a new Speaker of the House.

According to the Hill, Martin said, “Maybe we should see about getting a different Speaker right away.”

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Martin’s co-founder Mark Meckler called Boehner’s plan “an embarrassment” and gave his performance so far as Speaker a “D.”

“He proposes $1.4 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years. Legally, no Congress can bind a future Congress. Anything he promises about what future Congresses will do, they simply can’t make that promise. In the real world, we call that a lie.”

Meckler said lawmakers, including Boehner, should steel themselves for another Tea Party uprising at the polls based on what happens this week:

I can tell you that there are certainly a lot of thoughts out in the Tea Party network across the country about primary-ing people, including freshmen who seem to be going off the rails so early. This week in Ohio, 51 local Tea Party groups wrote a letter to Boehner telling him not to cave on the debt limit.  In his own state, he faces significant opposition from a vast majority of the Tea Partiers who are against what he is doing in regard to the debt limit.

“If you want to raise the debt ceiling, prove to us you can make some cuts,” Meckler said to U.S. News and World Report. “Get real. They need to act like adults.”

      The only reason Boehner is Speaker is because of the Tea Party. Now Boehner is double crossing the Tea Party. Boehner’s bill raises government spending $8.5 trillion over 10 years base line spending) if they all keep their promises and if they don’t, its $9.5 trillion, same as Mitch McConnell’s bill .

      You have to be kidding. Give Obama a credit card with no limit and as the income coming in is less then what is spent without a budget and this is what you get. What, raise the credit card limit or cut back. Oh, blame the Republicans.

      Really the blame should be on the Democrats who overspent without regard to the credit limit. Go to war in Libya because the UN wants a no fly zone and pay 75% of the costs. People are we that stupid?

      I think that’s correct. I’m basically sick and tired of the liberal socialist AND elements on the right who maybe slightly better informed but have no idea how the world works. The idea of lets shove it down their throats has not and will not work for lasting change. What I see here is simply the same old thing, people reacting without any ability to critically think at all. I agree with disgust but people MUST drain the emotion from their positions or they’ll be seeing 4 more years of Obama. Do you really think you can change a system in one elction? It has taken the progressives decades to get to where they are at. Wake up!

      Although Rick Perry runs a fiscally responsible state, watch out! He is also a good-ole boy and life will go on the same way if he is elected Potus. Get ALL the entrenched people OUT of Congress! This is the ONLY way to make a real change in spending. Kill the funding for ALL projects funded in years ahead of the present year. BALANCED the budget, keep the government commitment for SS, Medicare and medicaid and the military and I agree with OOKSPAY, let the rest fight over what is left! We do NOT need all the special Departments of Ed, Welfare, HUD, EPA, NEA, FDA, TSA, Dept Health and human services, Dept of Labor, FCC, AMTRAK. Lastly, make the Congress serve the people by using term limits of maximum two terms WITHOUT a retirement package for life and kill the funding for those who are already sucking our blood on such a deal from the past! The ONLY way this can be done is to elect Tea Party people WITHOUT a past political career to the Congress, the Senate AND the WH. It does NOT matter which party is in charge, if they ALL are Tea Party members they will listen and talk between themselves like they should do with different ideas on how to approach problems. Lets us get back to sanity in politics and STOP the blame game politics. When the best we can do is get a 200 Billion reduction in spending, the game is OVER! We MUST elect new representatives.

      There is no tea party leader and the claim of an internal poll points to a fabricated story from USA today. Not the tea party patriots. I spoke to the tea party patriots and they know nothing of the poll. The blaze has been taken in by some amateur writer with no facts.

      Besides, any poll saying 80 % agreement on anything is statistically impossible unless you are lying or only polled a small number of people. Am I the only one seeing the manipulation? The president used the same 80% number lie!

      Voting “Tea” also got Harry Reid re elected and O’Donnell lost a Senate seat for us in Delaware. Boehner only controls 1/3 of government. You can’t rule with a third. We need the White House and Senate. If we get those, the Tea Party WILL be able to govern! Stay the course and don‘t go wobbley or it’s 4 more for Obama.

      I won’t argue that but, throwing Boehner out for trying to manage an impossible situation or worse…a third party, would be disasterous.

      @ Gonzo You are right! A third party would be disasterous. If you really think about it, the best way is for the tea party to take over the Republican party and bring it back to it’s conservative, constitutional roots. The democrats were always corrupt and that is what led them to be taken over by marxists, communists, socialist etc. i.e. Progressives

      @Islesfordian

      This is not just about the Tea Party. I have no affiliation with anyone. I know a lot of peple and only a couple of them are affiliated with the Tea Party. ALL of the people I know are fed up. I have a feeling that this government of ours has no clue as to how many Americans are fed up with arrogant, thieving politicians who have grown our government into what could be considered the largest corporation in the USA whose main focus is centered on losing money.

      @loriann12
