Tea Party Rep. Calls Out ABC’s Amanpour: Why Hasn‘t ’Your Profession’ Gotten on Obama?

GOP and Tea Party Congressman Joe Walsh made an interesting observation to ABC‘s Christiane Amanpour Sunday while discussing the president’s budget proposal: “I don‘t know why your profession hasn’t gotten on him more.”

NewsBusters’ Noel Sheppard explains:

As the host of ABC’s “This Week” pushed for higher taxes, Walsh correctly pointed out that Barack Obama‘s first 2012 budget proposed earlier in the year didn’t address entitlement programs … .

[...]

What has been totally forgotten by his devoted press is how back in February when the President offered his first 2012 budget proposal, there were many in the media that recognized how it largely ignored the recommendations of his debt commission as well as any cuts to entitlement programs.

This led Ryan to offer a proposal which did address Medicare and Medicaid, and he got lambasted by the same press that complained in February that Obama ignored such issues.

Last week, the President in his budget redo vaguely talked about Medicare fixes without naming any specifics whatsoever, and the media not only forgot about their concerns about this two months ago, but they’re also now actually praising him as being bold despite his obvious cowardice.

The problem with liberal reporters is that they’re liberals first. They don’t behave like normal people, where their ideology must conform to the facts. Instead, every event or topic has to conform to liberal tenets. Then they can proceed.

That’s how they can say, with a straight face, Iraq was a war for oil but Libya is not.

Lib reporters seem, sometimes, to be victims of their own sound bites. They seem to think in snippets of coherence, rather then the whole issue. Like Amanpour speaking about Reagan–For every new dollar the Treasury took in after his tax cuts and booming economy, the Democrat Congress was spending $1.32. Back then the Dems were screaming about a $68 billion budget deficit–that they created!

Today, though, a $1.4 trillion deficit is nothing to write home about; don’t worry, be happy!

Liberals can’t be reasoned with. They see things through some kind of built-in mental lens or filter, their ideology coming before all else. That’s why they say Glenn and we TEAs are nuts, that’s why they ignore the trends from across the world indicating this whole planet is in serious trouble (no, you libs, I don’t mean the environment).

When the stuff hits the fan, I bet the ones who are going to be the most surprised are the lib reporters who saw it coming but fully ignored it all.

are the ones to applaud and watch.
West, Walsh, Lee and their many colleagues are steadfast and do not waiver.
This is a new, dynamic breed-
proof…..governing by the people and for the people is never without merit.
Let their fortitude and love for country,
rid Washington of the stagnant stench of the political hoity-toity and rotting scum,

Just like these American mass murderers now in Iraq and Afganistan.[That Fort Hood shooter who as a pyschiatrist was in tthe belly of the beast hearing these "sophisticated' Americans talk about their genocidal impulses against Arabs understood that.[Unffortunately he succumbed to the evil mindset around him].Maybe if you would see the world and experience the people in it as a member of it rather then as an American Supremecist whose allegience is to your religion called Americanism, you wouldn’t so easily be prey to being manipulated to carpet bomb human beings cause someone tells you to.[a little sophistication regarding a “go carpet bomb people” war is not a bad thing .I don’t see Amanpour as accepting that order.

Comments from Georgia Congressmen on taxes:

      Washington, Apr 15 –

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Monday, April 18, 2011 will mark Tax Day. Members of the Georgia delegation joined together to comment on the impact Tax Day has on American families and small businesses, and how improvements can be made to our tax system. Below are their statements.

Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (GA-03): “Each year as I sit down to prepare my taxes, I am reminded of just how convoluted our tax code has become. It’s filled with confusing and sometimes contradicting language and secret loopholes, creating an unfair system where those who can afford high-priced tax professionals can skirt their obligations while everyday Americans are stuck with an ever-growing tax burden. That’s why I have been a strong supporter of the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax would replace the income tax with a sales tax, eliminating the confusing process of filing your income tax return each year. However, the answer to the confusion of our tax code is absolutely not higher taxes, like those proposed by President Obama. The answer to our current debt problem is less spending in Washington – not higher taxes on the backs of American families and small businesses. ”

Rep. Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee: “Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and yet we are reminded every Tax Day that there are those in Washington who still believe we need to take more from the American people in order to grow government. Every dollar taken by the government is one less dollar the American people can use themselves to pursue their dreams, grow our economy, and create jobs. Rather than higher taxes, we should focus on tax reform that will lower rates and broaden the base to make America more competitive in the global economy and expand opportunities for families.”

Rep. Jack Kingston (GA-01): “Economic growth doesn’t start in Washington, it ends there. That’s why I work every day to keep the tax burden on working Georgians low and to serve as a check on the growth of government. The road to recovery starts with allowing working families and small businesses to keep more of what they make, not siphoning their hard-earned dollars to big government bureaucrats.”

Rep. Austin Scott (GA-08): “This week the President outlined a plan that raises taxes on nearly every single American taxpayer. Americans are taxed enough already. As a small business owner, I can tell you that taking more money out of the American people’s pockets is not the way to create jobs and stimulate our economy. We must continue to cut unnecessary spending and incentivize small business owners instead of taxing them at every turn.”

Rep. Tom Graves (GA-09): “To borrow the famous words of Bastiat, the arrival of Tax Day marks another year of ‘legal plunder.’ As Americans review how much of their hard earned paychecks were taken by the government, the President has made a poorly timed promise to raise taxes on families and small businesses by 2013. With our towering debt and deficits, and the many years of fiscal mismanagement, it defies common sense to give this government a raise. The big government experiment has failed, and I’ll continue to make that case over the next year as we fight to defend the family paycheck.”

Rep. Paul Broun (GA-10): “This year’s Tax Day serves as a painful reminder that Americans across the country are struggling everyday to make ends meet, and unemployment is still skyrocketing in almost every city nation-wide. Our unsustainable debt and imploding deficits continue to raise doubt and uncertainty for job creators, so the economy remains in limbo. Yet, President Obama’s only plan to kick the economy into gear involves raising taxes and expanding the overreach of the federal government. The last thing families and small businesses want to do is hand over more of their hard earned paychecks to the government. Moreover, hiking taxes will only further kill jobs and drive our small businesses deeper into the red. I will continue to fight for meaningful spending cuts, to repeal Obamacare and its job-killing mandates, and to ensure the growth of the private sector – so that next year’s Tax Day won’t be such a sting.”

Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D. (GA-11): “Today, many Americans and small businesses will file their income taxes, entrusting their government to use those tax dollars responsibly. While most believe their tax burden is already too high, if President Obama has his way, that burden will be even higher,” said Rep. Gingrey. “A tax increase on America’s job creators would be devastating to our economy and would stifle our rate of job growth, which is already painfully slow. The President must understand — in order to prevent the burden of our nation’s fiscal crisis from being passed on to job creators and America’s workforce — the solution to our nation’s fiscal woes is not more taxation, it’s less spending.”

      From GA Rep. Lynn Westmoreland:

House Passes Budget Cutting $6.2 Trillion in Federal Spending

The House of Representatives today passed a budget for the 2012 fiscal year, which will run from October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012. The legislation will cut $6.2 trillion in spending from President Obama’s budget proposal over the next ten years and reduces deficits by $4.4 trillion. It puts the nation on a path to actually paying off our more than $14 trillion in debt and drops federal spending to below 20 percent of the gross domestic product.
I am proud to have joined a group of my colleagues in the House and passed Congressman Ryan’s plan for 2012 and beyond. This budget truly puts us on the ‘Path to Prosperity.’ Not only does it dramatically curb federal spending, but it also encourages economic development, works towards ensuring programs like Medicare will be available to future generations, and does not irresponsibly raise taxes on American families and small businesses.

I know there have been some irresponsible public figures who have been using scare tactics and out-and-out lies to put fear and doubt in Americans about the impact of this budget, especially with regards to the changes to Medicare. So I would like to set a few things straight. First, this legislation does not create a voucher system for Medicare. What it does is allow individuals to pick a plan, just like federal employees and Members of Congress do now, and the government will pay for the plan rather than directly paying the doctor. We are not trying to end Medicare; we are trying to save it for the next generation. Without reform, Medicare spending will eclipse all other federal spending in the next decade and completely bankrupt our budget. This solution allows us to keep Medicare without dragging down our entire economy. Second, if you are age 55 or over, these changes will not affect you at all. Both your Medicare and your Social Security will remain exactly the same as it is now. So any comments made in the press about this budget ‘killing seniors’ or ‘ending Medicare’ are completely false.

I also know that there are those out there who feel these cuts are ‘extreme.’ However, the mess we have gotten ourselves into over the last few years is also extreme. Our national debt tops more than $14 trillion, almost equivalent to our entire economy. If we continue down President Obama’s path of ‘spend now, pay later,’ we would see the national debt double over the next ten years. This mentality is simply no longer sustainable and we must make some very serious changes to the way we operate here in Washington if we want to pass on a better country to our children and grandchildren.

      PRESIDENT OBAMA’S LEADERSHIP:
Where is our country headed under President Obama’s leadership?

Legend has it that before civilization invaded the Mid-West, the Plains Indians used to stampede herds of buffalo over a Clift to harvest the buffalo for food. The herd had a lead animal that the herd followed to disaster or to the feast, depending on your point of view.

Slaughterhouses are supposed to use a Judas Goat to lead the goats into the slaughterhouse. The Judas goat steps aside just before entering the slaughter house and the goats continue on into the slaughterhouse.

In 2008, Mr. Obama was elected the leader of the free world. President Obama’s policies will result in the destruction of the greatest economy in the history of the world. The whole world will sink back into the poverty and despair that has characterized the Mideast and Africa for thousands of years. The oppression of the “Middle Ages” will dominate our lives. Except for the elite, the 21st Century version of King George III and his peers, the population will wallow in oppression and poverty.

Is Mr. Obama the lead buffalo headed over the cliff, or is he the Judas goat?
The question is actually irrelevant it makes no difference whether Mr. Obama ends up as the Dictator of or just another casualty of the disaster he is precipitating!

Regardless of Mr. Obama’s ultimate fate, if we continue to follow him we all face the oppression and poverty resulting from the unbridled use of government force! http://commonsense21c.com/

The mainstream media DID report that Obama had ignored the recommendations of the bipartisan budget committee. They also reported that Obama was not willing to be the first to jump on the budget issue since whoever does will get hurt in the elections, since the average American wants the unsustainable position of spending more than we pay for to continue indefinitely and will reward the next politician that credibly claims that this is possible with an election win. Because Obama knew this, he let the GOP walk the plank first. Ryan, who is young and less experienced as a politician, was all too happy to oblige, which has many establishment Republicans privately incensed and even provoked public rebuke from potential Presidential hopeful Donald Trump. To claim that this is the media’s fault, therefore, is a ridiculous claim. It is also a cowardly one. If the Tea Party is so bold, then lay the blame at the feet of the American people, where it ultimately belongs.

Speaking of cowardly, Ryan has put out a plan that is politically designed to satisfy the Tea Party movement, which is about 99% Republican. It doesn’t call for tax hikes, which the bipartisan committee also recommended, nor does it touch defense. Heck, it doesn’t even touch Social Security. More fundamentally, Ryan’s proposal assumes that discretionary spending, including defense, drops to 3% of GDP over the next 30 years, bringing our government back to 1909 levels. FT Chief Economics Editor Martin Wolf has described these details as beyond fantasy, but the mainstream media, which is not biased, but very lazy, has not reported these details beyond the esoteric discussions on Fareed Zakaria’s program. But the Tea Party Rep interviewed on ABC is not upset about these clear omissions, since they are helping his political “boy,” Paul Ryan. This is amusing.

At the end of the day, Ryan, like Obama, is being very cowardly about this, as are the establishment politicians. Meanwhile, the Tea Party is filled with economics-illiterate folks who let Bush spend much more than Obama without saying a word, but now suddenly even well-spend stimulus money is being lambasted as they claim that nothing short of austerity is needed even though the bond market is saying that the US is far from insolvency. If I had to choose between the intelligence of the bond market and the intelligence of Tea Party folks like this guy, I’d go with the bond market every day, and twice on Sunday. Ryan, Obama and the establishment politicians are even more foolish, since their assumptions are beyond dumb when providing their own budget “proposals.”

Here is the only solution that will work:

      1. cut entitlements by means testing all of them, and by raising Social Security retirement age to 70-72 years of age

      2. fundmentally reform health care cost inflation with benchmarking (and shut Palin up the next time she calls this rationing or a death panel), allow the government to negotiate monolitically versus drug and device manufacturers, and pass comprehensive tort reform

      3. cut corporate loopholes while lowering effective rates, so companies again begin to pay about 6% of GDP

      4. cut personal income tax loopholes while raising rates back to Clinton levels

      5. cut defense spending by about 30%

All of these measures, taken together, will eliminate the entire structural deficit, while bringing under control the demographic time bomb of the Boomers retiring and receiving the same kinds of benefit packages that their parents got.

Paul Ryan‘s plan doesn’t cut entitlements this deeply, but more important, he fails to raise taxes, which is also necessary to close the deficit. He also doesn’t like health care cost reforms, which are needed, since that is the biggest future driver of out-year deficits.

Obama‘s plan doesn’t cut entitlements this deeply, and his calls for cuts in tax loop holes doesn’t return us to Clinton-level taxes, which are necessary to cover our deficits (even with deeper cuts than he envisions), and which were not an impediment to the fastest GDP and employment growth seen since the JFK/Johnson administrations. His health care reform, which focused on bringing the uninsured into the system to avoid them taxing that system at the high-cost ER entry-point, did not go far enough to cut costs associated with defensive medical practice (because of lawyers), fee-for-service overbilling (because of doctors) or overpricing of drugs and devices (because of corporate control of monopoly positions).

I know that no one can get elected if they proposed my plan, which means that American citizens need to educate their neighbors and teach them that there is no free lunch, and that the last 40 years of partying, in which consumption growth has outstripped GDP growth, must come to an end. We now have to pay the bill of all the reckless partying by paying much more while receiving much less. We’ll have to do this for about another 40 years. And no accounting chicanery will save us from the bitter pill we must swallow. Tax cuts will not magically generate outsized GDP or employment growth. Even Laffer cannot state mathematically what his famous supply-side curve looks like, since it is a rhetorical device rather than economic law, and guys like Paul Ryan had better learn that what they take as gospel, Reaganomics, is actually the road to ruin. Meanwhile, Democrats are going to have to learn that the days of kicking the can down the road on entitlement reform are nearly over. We might have another year of vulnerable economy to defend, but very soon the deep cuts must hit. China’s economy is more unstable than many realize, and when they experience deflation, our obligations to them will not be monetized away, but will grow, and they will demand payment. Hence, we need to fix this mess in the medium term. By then, I suspect the Republicans will hold the Presidency and the Congress, which means that we’ll see whether they truly object to big government spending or just the kind undertaken by the opposing party. I suspect the latter, in which case it will be the bond markets that eventually discipline us, as they have Argentina, Greece, Spain and Ireland. That’ll be fun. Better to avoid that disaster by taking the pain today.

Don’t be fooled by Obama, nor Ryan, nor the Tea Party. They all are not telling you how bad it will have to be. We need lower spending and higher taxes, and anyone who says otherwise is LYING to you. Demand that we take the medicine now. Our kids and grandkids deserve that much…and more.

What should be investigated is the far right wing Tea Party/GOP plan to abolish Medicare.
The plan: No Medicare, but rather a $15000 voucher – how long will THAT last? It will kill all seniors who depend on it.
      Tea Party = Death Panels

Hey celery stalk why did you have to address this thread with an answer like that.

We seniors have been using a quasi voucher system for eleven year now and it’s proven to be a winner for the people that is utilizing the program. Its call Advantage Plus.

Once the insurance carrier submits the paper work to Medicare to see if we are eligible, then the Fed Gov cuts the INS carrier a five thousand check. At this point Medicare is no longer responsible for our health care, the responsibly shift to the INS co.

It’s a win, win, win situation for the Feds in that it takes the burden of them and saves billions annually in fraudulent claims and misuse. We seniors win with a few extra benefits. The INS carrier wins because of the new premiums and can turn a small profit running the program much cleaner and ten times more efficient.

“The plan: No Medicare, but rather a $15000 voucher – how long will THAT last? It will kill all seniors who depend on it.”

Your mischaracterizing the voucher plan is nothing more than a BIG BAD SPOOK TELL meant to scare us poor old seniors. Shame on you! Woo I’m frighten.

Celery stalk the $15,000 would go to purchase a great INS health-care plan. Have you got it, YET or do I need to go farther.

Barack Hussein Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos. . .thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within.

Barack Hussein Obama was my college classmate (Columbia University, class of ‘83).
He is a devout Muslim do not be fooled. Look at his Czars. . .anti-business. . .anti- american.

As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Barack Hussein Obama is
following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University

They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands.

Add up the clues below. Taken individually they’re alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival. . .and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government.

Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

Universal health care . The health care bill had very little to do with health care.

It had everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions).

Obama doesn’t care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans will add trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government .

Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill
in the middle of a depression?

Cap and trade. Like health care legislation having nothing to do with health care,

cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with redistribution of income, government control of the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama’s biggest contributors.

Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns
NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama
      wants.

They will kick-back hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to
Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power.

The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars,
bigger homes and businesses helps Obama “spread the wealth around.”

Make Puerto Rico a state. Why? Who’s asking for a 51st state?
Who’s asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government
entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression?

      Certainly not American taxpayers.

But this has been Barack Hussein Obama’s plan all along.
His goal is to add two new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressman and
a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government.

Legalize 12 million illegal Mexican immigrants. Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free health care alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America. But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters who can be counted
      on to support big government.

Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security .

Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go? It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions. . . including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country.

It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues.

It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out
(after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions).

A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union
      dues).

All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America.

The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama,
the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful.
      The ends justify the means.

Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20% of taxpayers, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama).

Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government.

Barack Obama wants to dramatically raise taxes to starve his political
      opposition.

With the acts outlined above, Barack Hussein Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.

Add it up and you’ve got the perfect Marxist scheme. . .all devised by my Columbia University college classmate Barack Hussein Obama using the Cloward and Piven Plan.

      True per snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/overwhelm.asp
