Elizabeth Smart — the now 24-year-old woman once held captive as a teenager by a deranged man — has shared details about her ordeal in her book. But earlier this week she delivered details about her kidnapping in public for the first time. And she didn’t seem to hold back.
ABC4 in Salt Lake City reports:
Smart started from the beginning as she addressed the Salt Lake City Rotary Club.
“I remember climbing in bed with my little sister, reading a book and then falling asleep. The next words I heard were – I have a knife at your neck, don’t make a sound, get up and come with me.”
“My senses were so fuzzy I couldn’t believe what I heard.”
“I started talking to him I started begging him to let me go.”
“He just laughed at me.”
“I thought he was definitely going to kill me then and there. And so, I turned to him and said to him if you are going to kill me please do it here so my family can find my remains. And he said, that’s not what I am going to do yet.”
Instead, Elizabeth said he performed a quick wedding ceremony then raped her.
“He went straight from marrying me to raping me. And after that moment I couldn’t feel more worthless and more degraded. It was the worse feeling I could have ever felt.”

Actually, I would want a major memorial for all who would think to do such a thing to look upon in total fear of what would be coming to them: Like being tied over a red ant hill with honey poured all over you or tied naked after being castrated to be spat on and degraded until their victims (including loved ones feel mercy) or another pervert is captured. Best deterents are swift justice and public examples. Sorry, but In a slam dunk case like this…..the punishment should be 7 fold the torture of the victim, the family, the society, and even other suspects of past crimes who were investigated for this heinous act.

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 10:41amWe often confuse compassion with feeling good. On several occasions I have “helped” out with homeless organizations who were feeding the homeless–no more. I have found that most organization are simply a front for someone with a perverse political agena who could not care less about the homeless. The ones that are based in true Christian principle are helpful. I still want to help but the helping they need is not a hand out from us who want to do just something. All of the this is a result of just doing something and often something is worse than nothing.
Report Post »I have come to the conclusion is that there are 3 types of homeless–Alcohol and Drug addelled; The insane and all the various definitions that go with that; and the lazy. First two I want to really help and the third I really don’t care about. First two we need to reverse the legislation of Jimmy Carter (It wasn’t Ronald Regan who signed the law to remove the lock from the mental institutions) and figure out what to do. That being said, I really want to help the situation but would keep them away from my family

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 11:45amThe sad thing is that there is any place whatsoever still existing in some jail for Elizabeth’s kidnappers! The sentencing given to her kidnappers did not give Elizabeth justice. Sorry Elizabeth, but despite your brutal experience and haunting tearful memories, we’re too busy trying to prove that our society of kidnapping and rape is still too civilized to put this man and his accomplice to death. Rather than be labeled as barbarians, we’d rather you and countless others have to worry that maybe some liberal legislator will change the laws over the course of his sentence enabling them to go free, or (as in the case of Jaycee Dugard) some freethinking parole board or judge will pretend they are omniscient enough to read minds and see the present and future condition of the heart, presumptuously declaring that they have been successfully reformed only to kidnap and rape again. My broken heart goes out to Elizabeth and Jaycee too, not only for their kidnappers’ disobedience, but also for the vicious disobedience of our own elected and appointed civil authorities who don’t trust that the sin of kidnapping really is just so bad that it truly deserves the exact punishment God has revealed for justice to be accomplished (Exodus 21:16; Matthew 5:19; 1 Timothy 1:9-10).

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 9:50amI am a Christian Mother and if this were done to my daughter I would feel the same and want blood too. However, my God tells me to let vengenance be His and let Him repay. It is not wrong to want justice to be done, what is wrong is to take that sense of vengenance into our own hands and take that decision away from God. He also doesn‘t say in the bible that He won’t use the hands of one of us to bring that justice. We just have to trust Him. The laws of our land also apply so that if the death penalty applies and we let justice be served the way God has allowed to be set up then so be it. I believe in the death penalty and am a Christian. Those two things don’t conflict for me. I have no problem believing in the death penalty and being a Christian and sleeping at night. NONE AT ALL.

Sad that you would take the opportunity to find fault with the family. I’m sure they themselves have gone over this many times. Sad, however so true that we need to keep our families from all kinds of sickos, I bet you’ll find many more rapes and murders from actual family relatives and close friends that are gainfully employed and holding up right positions as police officers, teachers, firemen, choir & church members. Better never invite anyone over to your home, never befriend or have compassion.

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 10:05amAs a Utahn, I’ve always been bothered by this story and not just for the obvious reasons. Here we are 6 mo. from the ten year anniversary of her kidnapping and we get this story of her addressing the rotary club here on a national website. She and her family should’ve moved to a different state and maybe changed their last name. Instead, I assume on the advice of her parents since she was so young at the time, she’s a celebrity. She’s been made famous for being kidnapped and raped. This ordeal seems to be the major component of her identity. I know she can’t just forget it and move on. But to so emphasize it and rehash it over and over. I think this does much more harm than good. I pray for the Atonement to be applied to her to heal her from this. But stop appearing in the media to talk about it. You’re so much more than just a victim of kidnapping and rape.
In other news, I, too, want to punch her effeminate, camera-loving dad in the face. He may be able to teach me a thing or two about forgiveness and charity. But come on. Where was the normal fatherly visceral anger and desire for revenge? Certainly he may have expressed such behind closed doors, but from the very beginning we never saw it. I wanted him to speak for the rest of us fathers about how he was going to personally pound his daughter’s rapist into a fine powder. Instead, all we got was a rush to forgive followed by a hastening into the public role of victim’s father.

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 10:16amIts no stereotype its common sense. So maybe you can find someone who is “homeless” and bring them into your home with little girls and not have anything go wrong. And maybe I can drive through downtown Dayton at 80 mph one day and not wreck the car or kill anyone. Does that mean it makes sense? Many “homeless” people (bums) are mentally ill. If you want to be their buddy do so at your own risk. Do not risk the lives of your family members just because you want to get a warm fuzzy feeling about yourself that youre special since you helped a “homeless” person.

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 10:31amLove how the liberals don’t want you to stereotype, but stereotyping has great value to society, just like profiling has great value to the police. Stereotypes are born and grow overtime as they prove to be more and more true, if stereo types are false, they quickly die. With as many charity programs and government programs as we have to keep people from being homeless, most homeless people choose to be that way, whether it’s because they are to lazy to hold down a job, or to mentally ill.

I only have my own morality which mandates that a crime shall be punished in such a way that the punishment both gives justice and in some way tries to prevent further crimes of the sort from being considered by sane people.
1. BOTH perpetrators, after being declared unquestionably guilty of this crime are to be taken out and WHIPPED until dead.
2. Said termination of the guilty parties will be shown on a public television channel throughout the federal and state prison systems and ALL RESIDENTS OF THESE PRISONS WILL BE FORCED TO WATCH THE PUNISHMENT CARRIED OUT…..LIVE.
3. The contents of the estates of both criminals are to then be liquidated and GIVEN WITHOUT TAX BEING CHARGED en toto to the victim (or family of the victim if the victim is deceased).
