NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Tim Tebow has work to do if he’s going to win over New York sports fans. The new backup quarterback for the Jets was booed at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night when he was shown on the giant video board — even though he was wearing a Yankees cap.

Sitting in the third row next to the Los Angeles Angels dugout, Tebow cracked a smile and acknowledged the camera. There was a smattering of cheers, but most of the initial reactions were boos.

(Related: Tebow: ‘The Most Important Thing In My Life Is My Relationship With Jesus Christ’)

Tebow was acquired by the New York Jets from Denver in a much-hyped trade last month. He is expected to back up starter Mark Sanchez, even though Tebow rallied the Broncos to the NFL playoffs last season and became a polarizing sensation in the process.

Tim Tebow Gets Booed at Yankees Stadium In NYC

“I didn’t get a chance to see him,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after his team’s 11-5 victory. “I would have loved to get a chance to see him and talk to him. I‘m sure he’ll be back at some point. Obviously he’s going to be around a lot more now. But I’d love to visit with him at some point.”

Sitting next to Tebow was Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, also booed when he was shown on the scoreboard earlier in the game. But those boos quickly turned to cheers when Wade held up his Yankees cap.

Wade and the Heat beat the New York Knicks 93-85 Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

There has been much discussion regarding how Tebow will be received in New York City, a place known for most liberal politics. Perhaps it was his overt faith or it was simply his outsider status that spawned the boos. Either way, the sometimes polarizing football player certainly has an uphill battle as he works to gain respect in the region.

Talk about hate for no apparent reason other than he’s a Christian, done no harm to anyone, wishes no one any ill will but will no doubt pray for them. We are coming into a period where the wolves at the door have worn it thin and fragile…..this door will not last must longer! If your a professing Christian then your fine but as Jesus said, you will be given up for trail and persecution in his name because they hated him first. Christians are the only ones not playing the anti-capitalist game, they are actively praying and seeking solutions for a better America by being better Americans themselves. This is what they hate. They..the MOB have given themselves over like in Sodom and want you to be down where they are. Resist!

God has Tim right were he wants him – Remember – the Bible tells us that in these times – even the Rocks and Trees will speak out and expose Christians who are hiding behind them.

When Satan and his followers come for me – I am going to yell – I’m right here! I’m a Christian and and no Weapon form against me shall prosper! Bring it!

@DB321- So Tebow is the embodiment of God? Interesting perspective. Could it be that the Jets traded a 4th and a 7th round pick for a qb that averages less than 60 yards per game, while having a 1st round qb already on the roster and not going anywhere? Grow up.

yep-divide and conquer is their policy and philosophy…
and a Godly man/woman to liberals is like holy water to vampires, silver bullets to werewolves, etc…
and yes they are demonic-whether they know it or not…their every action goes against the teachings of God and break every commandment…

      1) You shall have no other gods before me. (liberals set themselves up as god in their own lives and promote that ideology to the rest of the world)

      2) You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. (whether that be in the form of the earth, possessions, etc)

      3) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. (yep-even though they don’t believe in Him-they do love to curse)

      4) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (let’s face it-do any of us hold that one up?)

      5) Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. (they turn children against their parents and authority figures in their lives-woe to them that do that!)

Locked: So a guy attending a sports event is “polarizing ?” How about the jerk who booed him ? So what is your recommendation ? Tebow is not the issue. His belief in God is the issue , and apparently in New York City God is now a polarizing topic for some rude atheist .

Those are granny’s words though, it does not prove Tebow is polarizing (though I agree with you he is).

These things I command you, that ye love one another.
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

      John 15:17-20

Of course he is polarizing. Just as I am polarizing, and Granny here is polarizing. That is why we are all here, to pick who we are to follow. You have to decide, there is no leniency given for apathy. You either choose to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ or you pay the ultimate penalty for sin. Of course the world hates that message, I know I sure did before I chose Christ.

Yeah, Christianity is the most polarizing force ever known. And well it should be.

      @Barber

“So a guy attending a sports event is “polarizing ?” How about the jerk who booed him ? So what is your recommendation ? Tebow is not the issue. His belief in God is the issue , and apparently in New York City God is now a polarizing topic for some rude atheist .”

Whooooosh! This is the sound of the point going completely over your head. @Kickagrandma says in one breath that Tebow isn’t polarizing, then in the next decries those that boo him as socialists who should leave the country. Obviously there’s a polarity issue here.

There are plenty of reasons not to like the new guy. Personally, I like Tebow’s faith; I think he’s sincere and honest. His playing ability? That’s definitely hit-or-miss. I like him as a person, not as an athlete.

Plus, I just generally dislike NY teams; not because they’re in NY (which is an excellent place to visit but I’d never, EVER want to live), but because they’re arrogant and the best that money can buy. Reminds me of our DC politicians, actually… that would probably explain my contempt for politicians as well!

You couldn’t pay me billions even to visit. Why would someone want to go to hell?

New York doesn’t deserve him. With that said, God gives us things we don’t deserve…like His grace in return for our acceptance of His son as our Savior.

Dunno, why did Jesus hang out with sinners, prostitutes, tax collectors and thieves? You take the Word to those who don’t have it, as preaching to the choir really doesn’t get you anywhere.

That said, NY is a cesspool. I have no desire to ever, ever go there.

Visit NY? Live in NY? Are you kidding? When I hear Sinatra singing “New York, New York” I get nauseated. Do they really believe that stuff? The old line “When you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere” — get real. New York is the last place on earth (other than California) you couldn’t pay me to live OR visit. Good luck to Timmy! He‘s tough and he’ll make a positive impact before it’s over.

Ill say it again, most of you jerkoffs who rail against NY have never even been there. Its one of the safest cities in this country. Its the center of the world of art, culture, finance, capitalism….the best restaurants in the world…wonderfully beautiful parks and architecture. It wasnt by chance that NYC is always trhe biggest target of our enemies, its becasue NYC is america.,….not your silly redneck town…NYC. if you hate NYC, you hate america. How does it feel to hate your own country?

      Hi Dose.

Oh? Where have I been, precisely, and where haven’t I been? You’re pulling assumptions out of your posterior, sir. Calling names to people people you’ve never met does not bolster you assertion either.

NYC is not America, sorry. It may have been, at one time, now it’s just a mess. And the best restaurants in the world are in San Francisco CA, and Paris France, respectively. The cultural center of the world is more located in London England these days than NYC. And one cannot beat the beautiful architecture one finds in Prague, Czech Republic, which is known throughout the world for it.

NYC is an over taxed, over regulated, gun banning, illegal search endorsing slime pit. You can have it for all I care. Me, I prefer to travel to places a bit more refined and friendly to liberty, thanks.

Ghost…haha….you rail against it being an overtaxed, overregulated place, then go on to site Paris and London as your examples. Ill let your last post stand for what it is…coming down on AMERICA’s greatest city, and talking up Europes socialist capitals. You just hate our own country dont you?
