Ted Cruz Wins Texas Primary

As of 9:32 PM EST, the website Politico has called the Texas Senate race for Ted Cruz over David Dewhurst. At the time of the call, Cruz led Dewhurst by roughly 7 points, 53.6-46.4, with just over 20 percent of precincts reporting.
US Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) released this statement over Facebook:
Congratulations to Ted Cruz! Ted’s victory is a loud statement to the Washington establishment that Americans are ready to take back their country. Under the old system, the party establishment picked the status-quo candidates who toed the party line. But, the people have risen up to elect principled leaders like Ted Cruz who will take on big spenders in both parties and fight to save America from fiscal collapse. Voters trust Ted Cruz to reform Washington instead of becoming part of it. In 2010, America sent Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, and Pat Toomey to the Senate. In 2012, we have the chance to elect more courageous leaders like Ted Cruz, Richard Mourdock, Josh Mandel, Mark Neumann, and Jeff Flake. Tonight’s victory will have Washington shaking in its boots but give freedom-loving Americans everywhere.
UPDATE: The Associated Press has called the race for Cruz:
Former state solicitor general Ted Cruz, a tea party-aligned conservative once regarded as a long-shot candidate, has won the Republican runoff in Texas, where he will be the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate in the November election. The Associated Press has called the race for Cruz over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Cruz will be a heavy favorite over Democratic nominee Paul Sadler, who also won a runoff on Tuesday.
Cruz, an emerging conservative star whose father emigrated to the United States from Cuba, has drawn comparisons to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and has been lauded by national conservative political pundits and groups for over a year. His victory is a major blow to the Republican establishment in Texas, which lined up squarely behind Dewhurst. It’s also a victory for the tea party and national conservatives who lined up behind Cruz even when a surprise win appeared unlikely.
Cruz’s win is a remarkable political feat and arguably the Senate upset of the cycle. In early 2011, when Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison announced her intention to retire, observers regarded Dewhurst as a virtual shoo-in to take her place in the upper chamber. Dewhurst is very well-known in Texas, enjoys immense personal wealth, and enlisted the help of Gov. Rick Perry’s top political hands. Perry endorsed Dewhurst during the campaign.
UPDATE: Freedomworks President Matt Kibbe said this about the race in an exclusive interview with the Blaze:
Texas is clearly demonstrative of a paradigm shift in politics…I think we’re really at a tipping point, and that’s why November matters so much. Not just beating the Democrats, but there’s still this clash going on between the Republican establishment and all of these principled, Constitutional conservative insurgents. I think, after that election, we essentially take over the Republican party.
Earlier in the evening prior to Cruz’s victory, FreedomWorks‘ Adam Brandon joined Glenn Beck to discuss the race and what’s in store for other Tea Party candidates:
This is a breaking news story. Updates will be added.

Remember that this would have never happend if it werent for the run-off…Dewhurst beat Cruz 45% versus 34% in the original primary. But the original primary had other conservative candidates and they split the vote.

We should always require a run-off when nobody gets >50%. The reason is that the field is usually stacked with conservative candidates versus one single moderate. This is what happend in the republican primary, with Romney winning many states with only 35% of the vote

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 10:52pmNow that we will have a strong conservative in the Senate we need to get a majority in the Senate and elect Romney to kick Obama on his rump. If Romney is good at firing people, he needs to fire Obama.
Funny enough, I agree with Dick Morris to say that a lot of Democrats including Bill Clinton will end up voting for Romney in the end ( http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2012/july/morris_clinton_romney.html ) We need to help those Dems and Independents see the light. So just like was done for Cruz to get out the vote we need to help Romney, and so doing push him to run a very conservative Administration.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:35amFastFacts, Romney is not the guy we need, Ron Paul is. Paul still has a chance, and a better one if more people would figure out what is really going on. Read this and see what the GOP establishment, along with the Romney campaign, did during the primary, violating party rules, committing election fraud, violating federal law, “Chicago Style” campaigning. Who else does that? Oh yeah, Obama, but they are pretty much the same.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 6:09amWell done Texas. As the progressively run states implode from the weight of their own ignorance and stupidity, Texas leads the country by example. It’s a good thing the Tea Party is no longer relevant because the progressives would have something to worry about. This is also a wake up call to the GOP. The RINOs days are numbered within the party. You either adapt or you’re gone from any leadership roles.

It is positivly GREAT to see NBC (Nothing But Communism), ABC (Always Broadcasting Communism), CBS (Communist Broadcasting System), CNN (Communist News Network), PBS (Politbureau Broadcasting System) aqnd the rest of the far left liberal mainstream media SQUIRM!!! Despite the millions of dollars thrown to the lapdog RINO and the media blitz favoring him and him only, the people of Texas saw through the conspiracy and elected a true conservative. The peopls of Texas are sick and tired of the Federal Government’s over reach.
NOW, Tea partiers in the rest of America need to get busy and get conservative candidates elected, not only at the Federal level but also at the State level also.
Remember, if Texas can be won by conservatives despite the overwhealming support given to the mainstream candidate, the conservative candidates can be elected anywhere, even in CALIFORNIA.
Thd days of big government and cradle to grave liberalism are OVER! The majority of the American people are tired of government interfereance in their daily lives. It can and must be stopped NOW!

The Party acted like Obama and his cronies, “Chicago Style” politics. If that is OK with you, then be a good little socialist, as that is what you are going to get.

Are you saying Rick Perry isn’t a real conservative?
All you have to do in the Republican primaries now is say that you‘re opponent is a moderate and that you’re the radical and bam, you win.

To be a moderate was alright in times when most people wanted what was best for America (Although even then, it was a pretty wishy-washy thing to be). We don’t have that situation anymore. The situation these days is, to be a moderate, you have to be saying that completely destroying half of what America stands for is fine.
It’s a lot like a woman saying “I’m only half pregnant.”

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 10:13pmYes Moderation, while Rick Perry has done a good job Governing Texas, he is, when the cows come home, another Washington long-time political crony. Just like Mike Huckabee who also backed Dewhurst. Bush too was one. We are seeking a true change in Washington. Congress is FAILING our country now – Repubicans and Democrats both.

To what end though?
What if the Tea Party and their nominees are so far to the right that people end up going to the Democratic party?
I think the Republicans are over playing their hand.
They had a huge wave of wins in 2010, but they also lost quite a few winnable elections by having to run candidates like Christine O’ Donnell and Sharon Angle in the general election. I think those races would’ve been won by a more moderate Republican.

If those races would have been won by a more moderate Republican then why bother with the status quot? Run on what you believe hard left/left/moderate/right/hard right and let the chips fall…. I’m tired of fake politicians. That is what the problem is now!! Are you saying you just want things to remain the same? Get out of the way of the conservatives of the Republican party (Tea Party) or prepare to get run over!! Your “logic” is why things are so screwed up in Washington now!! I can tell you where I don’t stand.
I don’t stand with a party that adopted as part of their platform that they are against critical teaching skills.
I don’t stand with a State that takes Thomas Jefferson out of “revolutionary thinkers” in their school books and put in his place John Calvin(a travesty ESPECIALLY if you ever read what Jefferson thought about Calvin and his teachings).

You have to admit that there has to be a little fear that the GOP could go so far right that it sends a lot of independents running into the Democrats arms.

Do you really think you can take the Republican party that far to the right without any backlash?Especially when a lot of independents will vote out the sitting candidate especially if things aren’t going all hunky doory?
When you get rid of moderation, you get what you have now in politics.
Both sides claiming they know what is best and refusing to come to any legitimate agreement.
You get a super majority who passes everything they want. You then will usually get a huge momentous swing for the other party, and they get a majority(maybe even a super majority) and then that congress just tries to repeal everything that has done and pass their own stuff. Rinse and repeat.
There are already a couple of Republicans(like Steve LaTourette) who are refusing to run for congress again because they are tired of having to deal with this current batch of “block everything” Republicans.
What happens if those seats(which could have likely been held by a moderate Republican) then go into the hands of a Democrat because a tea party candidate wins the GOP nomination but loses the general because they are viewed as too extreme? You’re essentially saying to moderate Republicans, “If you don’t agree with us on everything then get out.”
It is my view that you are going to really shrink the appeal of your party among current registered Republicans, and it will be hard to attract independents and fiscal conservative Democrats into your party.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 1:36am@ the poor lonely moderate. (still looking for that book on Great Moderates of American History)
This ‘far right’ stuff is pure BS, its part of the narrative set by the godless left.
The problem has been the the GOP has been dragged too far left over the decades. (cancer of progressivism)
We the People are merely reasserting ourselves.
Its real simple what the Tea Party stands for:
God God In God we Trust
Family Guns Liberty
Country Small Government e Pluribus Unum
There is nothing ‘far right’ about these ideas at all. You’ve bought into the leftist narrative.

We aren’t talking about narrative.
We are talking about a handful of Tea Party candidates who lost in the general elections where a more moderate Republican might have won(especially in the wave against the Democratic party).
All great people exhibit moderation in what they do.
You might disagree but I say our founders were moderate when they crafted our Constitution.
Some were devout Christians
Some were Deists
Some were free thinkers
but they call came together to write a Constitution built on secular law.
You might disagree with my statement and say that we are fundamentally a Christian nation and our Constitution is based on the Bible. We won’t agree if that is your stance, and is again, another instance of where I think the tea party is going too far to the right.
What kind of government do you want?
One that lets the financial market run free?
One that doesn’t invest money into science?
This is what I’m wondering. How limited do you want the Government to be?
I hear you people talk about freedom and liberty, yet all I see is constant waves of anti abortion bills.
I hear you say you don’t want government in between you and your doctor, yet I see people support Bob McDonnell who wants to give forced ******* probes to women who want an abortion.
Do you want limited government or just your form of big government?
