Caiden Cowger, the 14-year-old radio host who went on a rant against homosexuality, has been dropped from the online radio platform Spreaker. (Image source: Facebook)
The 14-year-old radio host whose comments about gays ignited a firestorm this week has been dropped from the online radio platform Spreaker.
The page that was once the home to “The Caiden Cowger Program” now returns an error message saying the show is no longer available and has been deleted due to “offensive contents.”

In Cowger’s now-viral rant against homosexuality, the West Virginia teen called being gay a choice, not the way someone is born.
From The Blaze’s original report:
Cowger says that homosexuality is “not mandatory in that person. That person was not born that way, no matter what Lady Gaga says.” He explains that he feels homosexuality is becoming more prevalent in society. Why is this? According to Cowger, “it‘s because they’re being encouraged by it.”
He goes as far to say President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are “making kids gay.”
Cowger does say that he is against bullying of homosexuals but feels “when you’re trying to teach them the word of God and they consider that bullying” this is a problem. He says that it is a getting to a point where he can’t express his beliefs to homosexuals about God anymore.
According to Spreaker’s community guidelines, the site does not allow “disparaging or defamatory comments, threats, harassment, illegal activities, invading privacy, racial hatred, discrimination of any kind, offensive cultural behaviour, vulgar or obscene content, or other inappropriate behaviour“ and has the right to remove offensive content ”without notice.”
Earlier this week, Cowger wrote on his website that his original YouTube page had been hacked and shut down. He has since started posting videos to a new channel.
In an email to The Blaze on Saturday, Cowger said he was looking for an alternative way to broadcast his show. Until then, he said he’d be sticking with YouTube.
“If the truth is going to be marked as offensive, then the truth is tainted,” Cowger wrote. “It was Harry Truman that said, ‘People tell me that I give them hell. I give them the truth, and they think it is hell.’”
Cowger’s original monologue is below:

We have a First Amendment that guarantees our Freedom of Speech.
I have a right to listen to that speaker no matter what he says. He is on the Internet and if people do not want to listen they can refuse to tune him in. Must we pick up and load our rifles to defend our Constitution? Who ever pulled the plug on this program should have their FCC licence revoked.
I hope he moves to another web site and or Short Wave Radio.
This is an outrage that must be dealt with.

Oh here we go… The first amendment protects the individual from government. It was not “government” shutting down his radio show. It was the content provider that exercised their freedom, their right, to terminate him from “their” website. Cowger is still free to voice his opinions, just not at their expense.

Free speech for me (the homosexual) but not for thee.
The boy has an opinion which is covered under free speech.
When you speak one on one to teenagers these days; they will confide to you that they are not happy with the peer pressure and cultural pressure to accept the homosexuality lifestyle as normal.
The amount of directed peer pressure for these kids to accept homosexuality is overwhelming and they are constantly berated if they disagree.
This is just another example of shutting up those that disagree. I am sure the kids will see this as re-enforcement that teenagers better accept homosexuality as normal or there is a price to be paid.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 1:56pmI completely agree with you. Peer pressure is the magic ingredient that makes it very easy for progressive ideology. After kids are told again again through school, media, social networks, hollywierd and the likes that if anyone disagrees with ______ (Name you topic) that they are bigots or racist or what have you, the kids are then afraid to speak their mind in disagreement because they believe in their minds that they are the exception, not the norm. And of course libs know, just as we know, a teenager rarely wants to be ostracized by their peers, much less be slapped down in a classroom setting by an ‘adult’ for asking/challenging what is being spoon fed to them. They fear speaking their true feelings on an array of subjects except to maybe their closest of friends, if even that.
Report Post »Game plan: Make them feel outcast and alone for thinking differently than those around them. Alinsky them. Let the indoctrination begin! Little do they know how many around them are thinking and feeling the same way they are.
We are adults and that tactic worked pretty good on us to some degree and their are may adults still scared (with good cause sometimes) to speak truth to overwhelming evil–in all facets.
Kids nationally have that same gut check feeling that things are wrong like us adults, progressives have to reprogram them to ignore their gut.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 5:19pmThe kid still has free speech, you just can’t hear him because you’re not standing next to him. He also has freedom of the press if he wants to type up his views, Xerox them and hand them out on a street corner. He can also start his own website that anybody who really wants to listen to will be able to find. But a guarantee of a free press has never been a guarantee of free printing. The guys who own the presses or broadcasting equipment or pay for the access to the internet servers still get to decide what they will and will not disseminate.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 12:20pmMy open letter to francesco.baschieri@spreaker.com:
Report Post »Dear Spreaker CEO,
I used to love the idea of your platform. With the cancelling of the Caiden Cowger show, however, I can no longer consider your service since it does not support freedom of expression.
According to your own guidelines, there is no basis to censor Caiden’s opinions on homosexuality. He decried bullying, he spoke in generalities so as to disparage or defame no individual, his opinions did not attack any group, but rather were defensive in nature. He recognized the liberty of belief, and insisted on the word as a means of convincing others, rather than attempting to enforce such with actions-as a stark contrast to your own tactics in dealing with him. He threatened no one with any consequences whatsoever, and condoned no harassment, illegal activity or privacy invasion. There was no racial animus in his words, and if they can be construed as a kind of discrimination, it’s only that kind which is protected by law: the right for individuals to choose for themselves what they think is right. With a little thought, you too should agree that his remarks weren’t actually discriminatory at all, since they implicitly treated everyone alike, and willed everyone well. Your actions demonstrate intolerance for diversity, despite your own claims to treasuring it, and this has lost you customers.
Please return to being a neutral platform with decency guidelines, instead of the thought police.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 12:20pmI can understand why Glenn would put stories up about a 14 year old radio broadcaster, he remembers his days back in Washington. The old shock jock is encouraging the younger one. Well, kid, the Government doesn’t have to take you off, but your sponsors can and will. If you say toxic things, they don’t want you to infect their products, and they will pull your plug faster than a New York minute. I saw your website, Caiden, you get comments about your poor and unnatural grammar, but you defend yourself by saying you have an A+ in English. Well, it’s an A+ in West Virginia, it’d be a “C-” in my high school. What you said was hateful and ignorant. No one can make someone Gay. No one chooses to be Gay, they are born that way. However, you can raise someone to be mean-spirited and hateful, and to give them the idea that they have the right to bully others and call it “witnessing”. Those Gay kids you used to be friends with are better off without you; with a friend like you, who needs an enemy?

I find that pretty hypocritical. Gays supposed represent less than 10% of the population and yet they would have you believe that they are constantly being attacked, beat up murdered by roving bands of homophobic straights. The evidence doesn’t bear this out. In fact through out my entire 58 yrs of living I have never known personally of any of my gay friends to be attacked physically or verbally for being “gay”. I do believe that there is a concerted effort to promote the lifestyle in the schools and in society in general. which is really a shame. Gays would do better to adopt a more libertarian stance.

@Martyr And your proof for this is…..?
@Crazyotto, Your grammar is pretty poor, too. I went to his website. He bragged about getting an A+ while snarking his critics for talking about his poor grammar. He said that a Gay boy complained of being bullied, but the person was only “witnessing” to him. I doubt that you have many Gay friends, or if you do, that they would really talk to you about their lives, but just because you haven’t been beaten or verbally attacked, it doesn‘t mean that you haven’t been discriminated against or mistreated.
@65Mustang Really? Prove it. What I do see is Gays refusing to be discriminated against or bullied or pilloried in public. Imagine thinking you have the right to exist, to work, to live, to love and not be mistreated! African Americans went through a similar phase about 50 years ago. Lots of White people were outraged and said they were seeking special advantage, or being “uppity”.

If the media really was responsible for people being Gay, how did Gay people exist before TV, radio, and the Internet? There have been same-sex couplings for as long as there have been people, and there will be as long as they are people. If you CAN convince someone to be something they aren’t by using the media, why aren’t you a Liberal, since the media is supposed to be so Liberal.
@Sovereignsoul, Very well said.
@At any and all of you. Please show me the Bible verse where Jesus tells us to hate Gay people, where he says they will go to hell. In his life, Jesus ate with prostitutes and tax collectors. He spoke with and took water from the Woman at the Well. (As a Jew, this would have made him ritually impure, but he did it anyway.) Jesus chased the moneychangers out of the Temple and he condemned the hypocrisy of the Sadducees and the Pharisees. Somehow, I think he’d have the same reaction to a lot of “Christians” and “Patriots” today.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 12:13pmFreedom of speech only insures the government does not censor speech. It does not apply to private corporations. They can censor you all they want, if you choose to use their service.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 12:23pmNothing is happening to freedom of speech, nor was Cowger’s freedom of speech violated in any way, shape or form. Cowger has every right to say what he wishes and not face government sanction for it. However, as Spreaker is a private organization, they are under no obligation whatsoever to associate with him. That is not a violation of Cowger’s freedom of speech; he is still to say what he wants, when he wants. However, it would be a violation of Cowger’s first amendment rights to force them to carry something they disagree with.
