(The Blaze/AP) — A 14-year-old Utah boy is dead after police say he accidentally shot himself with a miniature toy cannon.
Authorities say the boy was playing with the toy at about 7:30 a.m. Monday in his living room in Tremonton, about 75 miles north of Salt Lake City. Tremonton Police Chief David Nance says the boy was struck in the face after the cannon somehow went off.
The boy’s older brother was in the room at the time, and the boy’s father also was in the house. The boy, who hasn’t been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are still trying to determine how a propellant got into the cannon, which is described as an 18th century replica with a six-inch metal barrel and a wooden base. Nance says the toy has no shooting mechanism.

There is nothing toy about a small cannon. Its a small cannon, or large gun. I’m not sure how or why this boy would be allowed to play with a small cannon or large gun but he did.
Please report the story like it should be reported. This family allowed a boy to play with a gun without adult supervision. I know you want to make the family feel better but what about the next kid, what about that family? Write a story that will tell the truth and make sure anyone reading it will not let it happen in their house. Write the story that makes anyone with these very dangerous small cannons treat them as if they can kill someone.
I’m sorry to this family and boy. I have three children and understand bad things can happen. I have 7 guns in my house locked up in a safe, along with ammo, This way they can’t open rounds to get gun powder to play with. Kids are very smart, and can do almost anything they put their mind too. But they can’t get into our gun safe. You can only do your best by protecting for the worst and hoping for the best.

…not that i would know anything about that……
