Teens Admit to Drawing Syrup Swastikas Outside of Jewish Familys Home In CA

Earlier this month, a family in Northridge, California, woke up to find three swastikas and the word “Jew” written in maple syrup on the walkway leading up to their home.

Following the April 3 incident, three teenaged girls have admitted that they were the culprits. While the teens will not have criminal charges waged against them, the mother of one of the girls could face up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine over the incident, The Jewish Journal reports:

On Tuesday morning, April 3, a Northridge family awoke to find three swastikas and the word “Jew” written in maple syrup on their front walkway. The homeowner, the son of a Holocaust survivor, said maple syrup also covered his front door as well as two cars parked in front of the home. Feces were also found near the home’s front door, and toilet paper was strewn in the property’s trees.

Another nearby home was also defaced with toilet paper. While the girls were confirmed to be connected to these actions, they could not be charged, as the feces, toilet paper and syrup did not cause permanent damage. However, statistically, the incident will count as a hate crime.

“It was a very unfortunate incident, but it did not amount to a criminal act,” said Lt. Silva Atwater of the LAPD’s Devonshire Division.

According to the homeowner, the girls were former friends of his daughters and fellow students at the local Nobel Middle School.

“The girls need to understand the severity of what they did. This wasn’t a joke,” the father reportedly said. “That symbol (a swastika) has a very different meaning here at this house.”

The woman, police say, drove the girls to the scene. As a result, authorities are apparently seeking charges against her. The Journal continues, while also delving into actions the Los Angeles Unified School District may be taking against the young girls:

On April 6, police recommended that the City Attorney’s office charge the mother, whose name will be released if charged, with contributing to delinquency of a minor, which carries up to year in county jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

This is “what we feel is the most applicable charge under this circumstance,” Pitcher said.

And while the girls won’t be charged by police, Nobel took disciplinary action this week. School and district officials would not confirm a rumor that the girls had been either expelled of suspended.

Others in the community were in shock following the incident.

“This girl feels threatened by these other kids and how do you live like that?” said Morgan Braverman, a girl who who goes to temple with the young girl in the family that was targeted. “It’s even hard to tell people that you’re Jewish because you don’t know what they’ll think.”

      “Hate Crimes” need to be stricken from all the books.

      There’s already laws governing what happened here, and vandalism, public defecation, trespassing – any number of laws.

      Still, what these girls did was disgusting, and the adult who participated should face a fine.

      This is a non-story. Those Jews that got the syrup swatstickers already knew that they were Jews. They know what they have done. They didn’t need the syrup swatstickers to remind them of that.       You sir are ignorant. U.S. hate crime laws DO, in fact, also protect whites. In fact, the first major hate crimes case to reach the U.S. Supreme Court, Wisconsin v. Mitchell, involved a white victim. The black men, who nearly beat him to death solely because he is white, all got prison sentences. Mitchell, the black instigator of the beating, took his case to the Supreme Court because he felt the First Amendment protected his right to be a racist. The SCOTUS disagreed.

      Incompetency in not an excuse. They intended those to be swastikas and to carry the intent inherent in that symbol. The fact they were too idiotic to draw it correctly doesn’t detract from the meaning of the act.

      I think Woebegone is hitting what you guys are missing. These girls may have been used by one of their mothers to commit a crime. In other words, this mother may have used these girls to harrass Jews living in the neiborhood. I don’t care for the “hate crime” crap. I don’t care for federal involvenment in State matters. But this should not be brushhed off as girls playing pranks.

      It’s not a crime to leave feces on someones doorstep, huh?

      And P.S. They are swastikas as was the intent, however poorly depicted.

      It may seem like a prank but these girls are still young and remember the mother of one of them drove them there. Maybe next time they’ll use spray paint. Maybe after that it’ll be throwing rocks through windows. Neither of those are unprecedented actions. Personally I fail to see how this is a prank. Pranks are done for comedic value and this just isn’t funny. What preteen, as a prank, leaves feces on someone’s property? This is on par with egging someone’s house only much more personal. That’s not a prank, that’s one step short of vandalism.

    Its remarkable that the Jews being the ultimate victims in world history are no seen as the villians once again! Jews did a superb job of getting the message out about what happened to them during the dreadful years in Germany but only to have this sort of thing come around again perpetrated by non-victims who live in the land of plenty and relative peace and safety.     When are we gonna wise up to this?

    I feel fairly confident that these families would fit the category of progressive liberals. I say that because Conservatives generally teach their children values and morals.

I assure you that I’m a lot more liberal than most on this site. I raised a boy and a girl and they were taught to respect other people’s property. They have never been in trouble and are very successful in their respective careers. I visit sites of every political persuasion almost every day. I want to see the nonsense coming from sites like Huffington and Daily Beast, as well as links from Drudge, Fox Nation and this site. I see a lot of hate for the other side at every one of these sites but the rhetoric from the Conservative sites is so much more hateful…I wish I knew why?

      The real problem is the idea of protected groups of peoples. The idea, concept, of offending one particular group being a hate crime, is the problem. Jews, blacks, gays, women… do not have the right not to be offended.
      This incident should be treated with the same zeal, lack of zeal, that any TP attack upon any house, by any group of kids, would garner. No more, no less.

      I agree with you to a point that an attack on someone should be porosecuted with equal zeal regardless of the victims race, color, religon, etc.. Withthe exception being if the reason for the attack was because of the victims race creed color etc..
      For instance if a bunch of atheists were to attack a group of evangelical Christians and the paint on them epithets about Jesus, that would be a hate crime against evangelicals. I think the so called “artists” that make horrible debasing pieces that debase christianity should be prosecuted with hate crimes as much as someone who paints black lynchings, or any other anti _________________ art designed to attack a particuliar race, color, or religon. So yes white christians deserve protection for being attacked because of their skin color as much as tan muslims, or wjite jews.
      Of course based on ytour history you would afford protections to everyone Except Jews. but that’s only because you are what your nae says.

    I am not sure what race these girls were and it does not matter. I guarantee you if these were Jewish girls and they drew a hangman’s noose in syrup the media would be headlining this everywhere and pointing out the hatefulness of these Jewish Girls. Sharpton would start a march and Jackson would be giving a sermon on how racist everyone is.

    What kind of mother drives her child and that childs friends to a scene to commit a crime? Yes I know the action apparently did not meet the legal definition of a criminal act but it should be.

    This mother should get more that a fine and the kids need to spend a little time in juvey.
