Tense Budget Hearing: Senator Asks OMB Director if He Will Resign in the Future

The President released his budget for FY 2013 yesterday which analysts and critics have began to comb over and comment on. During a heated exchange in Washington this morning, Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Sen. Jeff Sessions struggled to get an answer from acting OMB Director Jeffrey Zients on whether the President’s budget provides actual net spending cuts.

“Let me ask you this. If you are incorrect, if you are incorrect in saying that you do not increase spending more than current law, would you consider resigning your office?”" asked Sen. Sessions.”Are you that confident in your projections?”

“I’m confident that with our baseline, which accurately reflects current policy and business as usual, that we have deficit reduction of more than $4 trillion and we do it in a balanced way,” said Zients.”For every two dollars and fifty cents of spending cuts, there is a dollar of revenue, that’s a good balanced approach.”

“Mr. Zients, there is no spending cuts in this budget” responded a fed-up Sen. Sessions. “This budget increases spending. Surely you know that. It increases taxes. So to say you cut two dollars and fifty cents in spending for every dollar in tax increase is beyond the pale.”

Republicans in Congress argue that the President‘s budget is not a practical plan to get the nation’s fiscal house in order but rather a pure political document riddled with inaccuracies and false promises, that in reality achieves a deficit reduction over ten years of just $273 Billion not $4 trillion. Critics of the President’s budget say their analysis of the document indicates spending increases of $1.5 trillion.

      When the republican party reclaims the Senate and the Whitehouse, things like balancing budgets, funding for Social Security and unemployment will take a back seat to restoring personal safety and individual rights. Everyone knows OWS and other radical leftist groups will run roughshawed through the streets of all states. Social unrest will be the most feared problem. What is happening in Greece will happen on the streets of America. I don’t live near any major cities but I fear for my fellow man or woman that has to travel near or through major metropoli. Be ready to defend yourselves if my predictions come true.

    Obama’s budget has no “real” cuts. To him a cut is saying, “I won’t spend $100 billion exploring the ocean bottom, and I won’t spend $900 billion looking for spotted owls, so that is a $1 trillion cut.” He makes things up out of thin air, just like the “straw men” he’s always railing against in his speeches. The man is a pathological liar, who can’t tell the difference between real and pretend anymore.

      He also claims that we will have a SUSTAINED GROWTH rate of 4% per year from now on.
      FOUR PERCENT?
      We don’t even get that in a GOOD economy!
      And then there are the other fudged numbers…
      Dick Morris just did a good segment on the details so I won’t try to type it all here, but,
      the entire thing is unrealistic from the start. It is a work of FICTION.
      I can only imagine half of the OMB was LAUGHING and the other half was CRYING.

      At this rate, we will owe 16,000,000,000,000.00 in four years.
      We simply CANNOT AFFORD any more of this guy’s SPENDING ADDICTION.

    I love the part where they say they ‘save’ all the money that would have been spent on the Iraq war….let’s see…we don’t borrow the money from China to pay for the war…therefore it is a savings!

    I have zero..zilch money, I am in debt…so I go to my neighbor and ask to borrow $100 on Saturday …..on Saturday I change my mind and say no thanks. BUT I have just SAVED $100 so I can go spend $100 on something !!!!! INSANITY

    Where is the TRANSPARENCY?????? Was this committee meeting aired on CSPAN? The voting PUBLIC has a right to know just how CAPABLE OMB is and at who’s direction does Mr Zients serve.

    The GOP needs to grab the opportunity and dedicate this Obama budget to Whitney Houston. That will get them the press and they can do a comparison between Whitney and Uncle Sam. They are both promoted as shining stars, the greatest that ever was and they look good on the surface, but we all know they partied and were troubled down deep. They both have squandered their fortunes by giving it to every cause and sob story they heard. The question is do we want to intervene for the USA or just try to get one last performance from her for our pleasure. Do we care enough about her survival to step in or are we just going to let her die like all that have come before her. Whitney Houston was one troubled misguided soul who perished. America is generations of hundreds of thousands who have perished building and defending her with no expectation other than to live free, how about you.

      We are like the Russia of Greece. The President’s budget will fail 97-0 again or no? Harry Nut Reid can’t pass a budget. How many billions are we going to borrow from China to give to Pakistan, EU, UN, Syria? How many fish treadmill study’s? How many millions will go to a monkey on cocaine study?

      How many billions will we borrow to get nothing done, but sink further into a black hole? How much more BaFriggen-nana Republicness?

    Its never gonna pass,the budget.Its all election year BS.Commiecrats knows it.Repussicans know it.Lots of grand standing,acting tough.Another wasted year by the anti-American Democrats and the gutless wonders called Republicans.

    I agree. If we sit home and don’t vote we’re done. But I find it usual the timing of the administration releasing a statistic that 2 million voters on the records are deceased. Seems they’re setting the stage for either huge voter fraud or even a suspension of any vote at all.
