Texas Barbecue Owner Wont Take Down Sign Depicting Iranian Man Being Lynched

A Texas barbecue restaurant has been flooded with calls since a photo of this poster depicting a group of men beneath a hanging Middle Eastern man was put on Facebook.

A Texas restaurant owner is under fire for his refusal to remove a poster that depicts a group of armed men posing underneath a Middle Eastern man being hanged.

The black-and-white sign features the caption, “Let’s play cowboys and Iranians!”

John Nonmacher, owner of Nonmacher’s Bar-B-Q in Katy, Texas, said he’s been flooded with angry calls since a customer took a photo of the sign and put it on Facebook earlier this week. Still, he’s not taking it down.

“It’s my choice to have it up. It’s your choice to go where you want to go. But I’m not going to take it down,” Nonmacher told Houston ABC affiliate KTRK-TV.

Nonmacher said he put the poster up 30 years ago during the Iranian hostage crisis and has never had a complaint until now. He said a customer gave it to him and he put it next to several others that were meant to be humorous.

Ayman Wafai didn’t find it funny. He told the station he came in to eat and was disturbed by the poster.

“You know it’s 2011, looking at it now, I see nothing really more than a display of racism and bigotry,” he said. “I don’t think something like this should really be accepted by any community.”

Nonmacher said since the controversy started he’s been getting calls from as far away as New York. The majority of calls have come from people who have never been to eat at the restaurant, he added.

“This is just a smear campaign. All they want is to get the sign down and I don’t want to take it down,” Nonmacher told Houston’s KHOU-TV.

As of Friday morning, an online petition for the poster’s removal had garnered nearly 190 signatures.

One signer, Helen Kamali, said even though the poster is considered free speech, “there is nothing good that can come from being blatantly ignorant about an entire ethnicity.”

“It only goes to show how when this country is done oppressing a group of people they move on to the next,” Kamali wrote. “Up until the 1960s it was African Americans and in today‘s society it’s people of Middle Eastern descent.”

    Here’s some recent photos of Irainan students being hanged. Copies of this should be distributed to all school children so that they may develop a normal aversion to all Muslims.

    I hope that guy starts a franchise and that poster is his logo. There are a lot of us out here who will go out of our way to support anti-Muslim businesses.

      Just wanted to let you know I just called the BBQ and voiced my support for them. It is beyond ridiculous that our once-proud country is/has, folding/folded to the likes of these ‘peace-loving’ muslims. Their 7th century founder, Moohammhed (may p!$$ be upon him), has left written instructions (Koran,Q’ran, or however you want to spell it) that his followers should continue to take the world by the sword. Well, now they’re doing it, and the libs in this country are not only allowing them, but helping them. May the true God of the universe YHWH help us!

      BTW, the lady I talked to at the BBQ was very pleased to hear of your posting (with their phone #), and thanked me for calling. I live about 300 miles north of their restaurant but think I’ll drive down some day soon for lunch!

      While I agree with everything in your post I don’t quite understand the statement above. It would seemingly imply that the Nationalist’s claims against the Jews were not true. lol If one can’t analyze what has happened today and then look back and see the exact same claims the Nationalists were making then are being made today… Test them try them and see if there is any validity in them.. Oh my god how can one deny the veracity of the claims in hindsight..       Now you point out a lot of supposed threats against Israel made by the Iranian gov’t. What’s that got to do with the US? Was that the intentions of my Founding Father’s that we make entangling alliances and go to War each and every time our ally is threatened? Oh I think not sir. Besides what threat is Iran to Israel?       First off, being executed is not corporal punishment, it is capitol punishment. Executing someone for mere political dissent is never justified. Dissent is not in the same realm as Treason would be and Treason is a Capitol crime, or at least it used to be even in America. You are correct that the Iranian government hanging these students is none of our business for the most part, no we should not interfere over it but it is a moral outrage none-the-less!

      We were not Allies to Stalin, you have your history very wrong, we fought Germany and its allies at the same time that the Germans invaded Russia, fighting the same enemy doesn’t make us allies. Fighting the same enemy doesn’t mean we agree with what the Russian government did to its own people.

      Israel is our Ally however and we are obligated to fight with them when they need it as they will fight with us when we need them. God says in the Bible (not word for word) something along the lines of Who so ever stands with Israel stands with me, who so ever stands against Israel stands against me. I do not know where you come from but where I am from (Ohio, USA) we stand with our Allies when they need us period! I am pretty sure that Israel will need us very soon and I will be there for them, and I will stand with God and the Jews as a sworn Ally!

      Armed Patriot: You make a lot of points but you seem to assume that there was no justification in any of their actions? Do you feel that only America acts out of pure intentions and that only America is motivated by good? We had Armies in the Middle East since about 1914. Were we there to help the Iranian, Iraqi and the various Arab populations or were we there for our self interests? Even today?

      Did the Iranian Revolution occur because they were happy with the American puppet or unhappy? They don’t desire our meddling over there just like we don’t want them meddling in our business or in our hemisphere. Now I’d be very upset if Iran had their sights on Mexico or Central America and would oppose it strongly. If they were occupying Mexico attempting to bring them real Democracy I might also plant a roadside bomb or two in order to encourage them to go back home where they belong.. Personally I don’t believe that Iran has any business in the West and I don’t think America has any business in the East.

      You mention the Beirut bombing. What in the hell were our Marines doing in Beirut? Why were they there? They have no business there and I’d like to think that if Russia, China or Iran had troops in Mexico or Canada that some of our agents might find a way to bomb their barracks in order to send them a strong message. Regardless what did Reagan do when the barracks were bombed? He had many Neo-Cons telling him to start the bombing but what was his response?

      Armed Patriot: You asked if I served. As a kid I shot Commie Russians every evening before I was called in.. I never cared much about school but I played football so I coudn’t quit. My dream was to be a Marine but at the time I was very impressionable like most youth. Looking back today, I am so glad I did not serve.

      Now if our Nation‘s sovereignty is threatened either internally or externally I’m there. I do not need a uniform or a commander to tell me that I am sworn to a Constitution.

      Finally as I have aged there are few things that irritate me more than some block headed ignorant fool thinking that because some one served in the Military 20-30 years ago for who knows what motivation at the time are somehow more Patriotic then those who chose a different path.       I will say this first, “KEEP THE PICTURE UP!” BUT I do find it offensive and I don‘t approve of it and I would not support this business by walking in it’s doors to eat. If I were to see the owner of this restaurant outside his place of business I would respect him and be kind to him. WHY? Because that‘s the beautiful thing about this country and it’s called FREEDOM of speech/expression. I may not approve or like what he says or how he expresses his opinions BUT as an american he has that FREE right. No one at all is forcing me or telling me I have to go to his place of business either. So I won’t go. If an iranian restaurant had a picture of an american in place of an iranian, I wouldn’t like it all. I would treat him the same way and realize and know he lives in america and has that FREE right and FREEDOM to express himself in that way. And in return I hope I would receive the exact same respect and kindness back in return if someone didn’t necessarily agree with what I had to say either. This is the very beautiful thing of being able to live in a FREE country. So keep YOUR picture up in YOUR restaurant. I don’t know this person at all, who knows maybe deep down inside he hates iranians but if iranians respected his FREEDOM of expression and treated him with respect and kindness he may have a change of heart eventually about iranians and not think that way about them anymore and vise versa with americans and iranians and iranians with americans.

      Correct, but it is your right to speak and deal with the consequences. and however it turns out you learn something. When we can express our thoughts and feelings by words and pictures, it helps us deal with things openly and reasonably. when we can’t speak, the pressure builds inside and we get no chance to modify clarify and change our position. speech is the door to giving and receiving information that allows and even compels us to change our view. Stifling speech often makes actions worse.

      Right on! Let me go a step further. These are facts: Islam is not a religion it is a political system using religion as a cover. The Koran is not a holy book it is book of laws to govern in a theocracy. When Muslims tell you they are peaceful and they read a law form the Koran know that the Koran says that if a later statement is different (more hostile) than the later statement trumps the earlier one. It also says it is OK to lie to anyone not using these laws. It specifies that all who practice these laws must convert all others who follow western law and if they can’t they are to kill us.
      If we defined Islam as the Koran specifies then it would be listed as a political party and would not be covered by my Constitution. Yet we continue to fool ourselves just as we did in WWII when we knew of the concentration camps and did nothing. Bombing runs would have saved millions of lives yet we did nothing.
      A Spaniard wrote something last month while he was walking in his home city of Barcelona. He said “we lost the cream of Europe in the ovens and they were replaced with 20 million Muslims”. He like many others has and is trying to tell us we are in real danger treating this as a religion. Just with birthrates their numbers grow 8 to 1. It is just a matter of time before Europe goes under.
      I for one want this stopped by telling the truth – this is a political system and all the bowing and scraping is perfect cover for their political ambitions.

      Last night on our local News a girl from Iran and her aunt were complaining the lame stream media was all for the Iranian girl till there website was flooded with bad reviews on the reporter making a big to do about it and at 10 news they dropped the clip.       This reply is to sense… The answer to your question is yes. The fortunate and unfortunate consiquences of living in a free country is that even the things that smack you upside your sensibilities are allowed whether or not you are “OK” with them. Think about the man boy love assc. No matter how disgusting and perverted their ideas are, they have the right to talk together in a group. You take that right away from one group/person then you are no longer a free nation. In Cincinnati we are treated to the wonderful KKK cross display at Christmas time every year. We also have a Christmas tree and a minora display in the same area every year. As a free people we have to put up with intolerance(the KKK) in order to be tolerant of all. If the city were to shut down the KKK cross then the rest of us would have our displays shut down as well.

      OilManInTX: Up until a few short years ago no one was a bigger supporter of Israel and the Jews than I. I’m not really that interested in Palestine or Israel per say. They both have legitimate claims to the land.

      My big conern is Jewish Marxism and their world wide movement. There’s an awful lot the average person simply does not understand.. If you here anyone speak of it.. Listen closely with an open mind.
