A 17-year-old Texas beauty pageant winner appeared in court this week, claiming she was unfairly stripped of her Miss San Antonio title after gaining weight.
Dominique Ramirez says pageant officials requested the former volleyball player and model “drop 13 pounds” before replacing her with the pageant’s runner-up.
But the Miss Bexar County pageant claims the teen’s weight was “absolutely not” a factor in the board’s decision to dethrone Ramirez. Her consistent tardiness was “the main reason and really the only factor” the San Antonio beauty queen lost her title.
“I never made weight an issue,” Linda Woods, a spokeswoman for the pageant board told Fox News.com. According to Woods, Ramirez “didn’t take her responsibility seriously“ and was sometimes a ”no-show” at required public appearances. The young lady often arrived “over an hour late” to events, with “no makeup, a dirty sash and a broken crown,” Woods added.
While Woods says weight was not the deciding factor in stripping Ramirez of her crown, the pageant board did encourage her to get on an “exercise program” to prepare for the Miss Texas competition, “just like any elite athlete,” Woods said.
Until the legal case is settled, a Bexar County judge has issued an order preventing the pageant organization from taking away Ramirez’s crown.
Fox News’ Megyn Kelly weighed in on the case Wednesday:

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 8:57pmSounds to me like she is a lazy, sloppy, careless mess. She should be stripped of her crown. Also, when in a position like hers, gaining a bunch of weight is disrespectful to her position. I don’t blame these guys a bit.

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 7:59amWe need more information on this…did she not show up to mandatory meetings? Was she late all the time? Then she needs to be reprimanded. If it‘s just her weight that’s another thing.

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 5:55amHaving a working knowledge of how the pagent thing works, this girl, to make it this far, knows what is expected of her. As for the weight question, I have NO DOUBT the “officals” asked her to do this. It’s the way things are done.

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 8:50amI’m sure you are correct and that is what she should have done. If she knew she had to look good to win, why would the standards go down after her win. Look into the future…..she will be perfect when you marry her and become a fat slob once the ring goes on – beware.

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 10:19amI never really saw the point to these beauty pageants. All they are is a bunch of immature girls fighting for the right to say “hey look at me, I’m better than you are”.
