Texas Rejects Stay: Executes Mexican Man Who Raped and Killed Teenager

Texas Rejects Stay: Executes Mexican Man Who Raped and Killed TeenagerHUNTSVILLE, Texas — A 38-year-old Mexican man has been executed in Texas for the rape-slaying of a San Antonio teenager after White House-backed appeals to spare him were rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Humberto Leal received lethal injection Thursday evening in Huntsville.

His punishment capped a flurry of appeals that argued he deserved additional court review of his case because authorities didn’t tell him he could seek legal help from the Mexican government when he was arrested for the murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda in 1994.

President Barack Obama‘s administration had joined with Leal’s attorneys, arguing a delay was warranted so legislation covering cases like his could work its way through Congress.

Lawyers for the state of Texas opposed the appeals, saying un-passed legislation was not law.

This is a breaking story, please check back for updates.

    Fantastic! Thank you Governor Perry!

I had an uncle killed 2 years ago by an illegal. Were still awaiting a trial because death penalty cases take a really loooong time. Somebody from the Mexican Consulate showed up a while back protesting the decision to seek the death penalty. Luckily for us the judge laughed him out of the courtroom!

I too lost a very good friend lost a very good friend over twenty years. She was 7 months pregnant and an illegal from Mexico stole a car and ran a stop sign while driving intoxicated. He broadsided her car and she and her unborn child died at the scene. He was represented by a city attorney and the jury bought into the fact that he didn‘t know what the word ’stop‘ meant and didn’t understand what our road signs mean. He was given some time but was released in two years and sent back to Mexico. He came back again and committed another crime and served more time and was released again but disappeared. If we said ‘either’ the death penalty or punishment of the same action of the way someone killed another ……the bleeding hearts would be more content with the death penalty because that is so much more humane than recreating and killing the murderer the same way they killed their victims.

This ws an attempt to gain further latino votes in the next election. This was and attempt to implement this one world ideology on the people of the U.S.A. This little girl was hispanic. This is laughable because the latino community would ( in my opinion) strongly support this course of action. They need to be informed that this administration would discard justice for their children in the name of politics. George Bush attempted to stop this as well. This is a conspiricy that is not theory. Thank GOD for Texas telling the Useless Nations(U.N) that we are a sovereign nation and will not continue to tolerate this dispicable lack of respect for all people like that poor, poor girl who was never allowed to live her life. This must end!!!!

Why did it take sooo long? His victim would have been 33 by now had it not happened. However perhaps he had some time to think of what he had done and agonize over his impending doom.

While I hate to cheer at a man’s execution, I have to admit it is heart warming to see Gov Perry refuse to knuckle under to pressure from the White House. If executing sentence on a duely convected heineous felon puts American lives in danger in other parts of the world then so be it.

Much better than cowering under that desk in the oval office seeking UN approval.

I support Texas. The crime was especially heinous. Leal lived in the US from the time he was a toddler and likely thought of himself as American. The case went to the Supreme Court at least twice and Congress has never passed a law requiring state compliance with the treaty. I don’t believe there is any doubt here that Leal had access to competent representation in all the years between his arrest and his final disposal. Justice has finally been served in this case.

This should have been done 17 years ago.
Mexico, the “International Community”, obama, and george bush, now, all condemn Texas for putting this piece of human garbage to death.
What about the poor girl who suffered mercilessly at the hands of this vile dog?
Mexico can go to hell. I will never go there again…and I won’t even drink mexican beer again.
And bush and obama should pray for forgiveness for their parts in this near travesty of justice.
I find it hard to believe we still live in America any more.
    What a shame!

Uh, wasn’t Andrea Yates, who methodically killed her 7 kids by drowning them in a bathtub from Texas? WTF happened there? If anyone deserved capital punishment it was her, but I guess that get-out-of-jail-free-card for women is handed out in Texas too.

      @DOODAD

You may want to Google the death row inmates in Texas. You’ll find there are women on death row. You will also find women have been executed. Yates had serious mental problems. I don’t think to this day she realizes what she did.
