‘That Is a Lie!’: See the Pro-Romney Ad That Has Santorum So Upset

Last night, Politico published a story from the campaign trail detailing Rick Santorum’s passionate reaction to a new ad by a pro-Romney super PAC. It accuses Santorum of voting to allow felons to, well, vote. And he is not too happy about it. We have the ad, and the reaction.

For starters, here’s how Politco describes Santorum’s response:

“I believe in running a campaign that’s honest, that has real integrity,” the former Pennsylvania senator told more than 100 voters at a restaurant here in the heart of the Pee Dee region. “As you know Gov. Romney and Congressman Paul, for now three states, have been running a pretty hard, negative campaign – which I think tells you a little bit about their ability to appeal to people’s better sides.”

“If you do it legitimately, that’s fine…but repeatedly I think Congressman Gingrich has made the comment …that Gov. Romney has not been accurate in what his assessment is,” he added.

Then he cited an ad that the pro-Romney PAC Restore our Future began airing in Florida last Thursday.

“I’ve just run into this with Gov. Romney’s super PAC today,” Santorum said Sunday. “He’s got an ad out that says that I voted to let felons vote. Now it’s very interesting. I did vote in the United States Senate that someone who is a felon, who served their time, who got out of jail, who has served their parole and probation and after all that sentencing then they could go out and apply to have their voting rights renewed – which, by the way, is the exact law that’s in South Carolina.”

“Now Gov. Romney’s taken that and said Rick Santorum’s for felons voting, but that is a lie!”

“I think there’s only two states that don’t allow that. So to go out and mislead the people of South Carolina as to what our record is on this is just: Yuck!”

“Why would we? I expect that from Barack Obama. I don’t expect that from a Republican running for president.” [Emphasis added]

Now, here’s the ad:

We’ll see how this plays out in the upcoming debate.

      Do you really think this poor man should not be allowed to vote?

      How about the rest of his voting record?

      Rick Santorum is anything but a conservative. Just consider his record, which includes:

      *** Voting to RAISE the debt ceiling five times;
      *** Voting to DOUBLE the federal Department of Education;
      *** Urging more federal involvement in housing with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac;
      *** Voting to create a brand new, unfunded entitlement, Medicare Part D, the largest expansion of entitlement spending since President Lyndon Johnson – creating $16 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities;
      *** Endorsing liberal Big Government RINOs like Arlen Specter over conservatives. Of course, Specter later became a Democrat and worked hand-in-glove with President Obama to pass his radical agenda;
      *** Voting for Sarbanes-Oxley, which imposed dramatic new job-killing accounting regulations on businesses;
      *** Voting for gun control;
      *** Voting to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, while voting against an additional 1,000 border patrol agents;
      *** Voting to give $25 million in foreign aid to North Korea;
      *** Voting to send hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest provider of abortion – and hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to enemies of Israel.

      Santorum constantly attacks Romney with lies. Calls him pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, raised taxes, all wrong. For example look at all that Romney did to fight gay marriage in Massachusetts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCCFdxd017o&context=C3b66790ADOEgsToPDskLXateTMKpF0l1Zr9cfwWtF .

      Romney has done more as governor for the social issues than any other candidate. Equal to Santorum.

      NEGATIVES WORK AND THAT IS WHY SANTORUM USES THEM AS WELL.

      Look guys, I am a realist, I understand Ron Paul is right on most fronts, even to my feelings about foreign policy. However, those positions are not real, much like world peace in this day and age. The United States is just plain to large to be as a Libertarian state, I am sorry. We are just not there yet. Look, it is just like the hippies who have these ideas of a place where everybody gets along and we all take care of one another. Yes, this could work in a country like Denmark, but not here in the US. MY other conncern is that Paul isn’t a leader int eh sense of running a nation. Maybe he has a side that I am unaware of or havn’t witnessed as of yet, however, I have far to often seen him allow his emotions get the better of his and run a muck. Against Obama, HE would certainly have my vote. However, he would get crushed. I don’t think you guys understand the extent to which how many people are on the government nipple, or have a loved one, family, close friend who is. If he went into the general election on his own, that is, one on one with Obama, they would paint his policy in way that would make him look as if he was taking us back to cavemen days. If Romney is the candidate and Paul runs as an Independent, the left will not paint him this way, but support him to break up the vote and Obama will be sure to win. This is dangerous my friends. I know you all want to call Romney Obama, but that is far from the truth. Obama will destroy us if elected again. Game over.

      @Hobbs57

      Some parts of what you say I agree with, while I think you are dead wrong on others.

      It may well be too late to save the Republic as the founders knew exactly what you were refering to:

      “When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
      Benjamin Franklin

      You may think Romney is somehow different from Obama, but it is quite clear has has no use for the founders wisdom, and at best would only slow the march towards the inevitable Fascistic nightmare we are heading for.

      The ONLY hope we have to reverse course is to make our case for the Constitional form of government that has been rejected by the likes of Romney and the GOP establishment.

      If we fail to accomplish this, the results are inevitable.

      We as a movement must refuse to vote for our own destruction, as this is the only way to send a message to the GOP that we will NOT back the same nonsense that got us into this mess.

      If we vote for the likes of Romney, nothing will change and the GOP will have learned nothing…other than the fact that they can continue to force feed us candidates who we loathe.

      It all comes down to educating the people, and if the GOP refuses to do so…we are done no matter who they foist upon us.

      @Hobbs, the exact opposite is true. The United States is too large to not be a libertarian state. For almost every federal program there is a state program doing the exact same thing. That means in our country we pay virtually double for all of our services. The federal government collects taxes, has an agency with massive amounts of bureaucracy and red tape distribute the taxes back to the states to support federally mandated programs. The states collect taxes for these same programs, and even though the states may want to enact a different perhaps even more efficient way of running these mandated programs they can’t. They have to follow federal guidelines, and it wastes money.

      Also, you have to realize, Paul isn’t running against Obama yet. He is running, against Republicans. He is distinguishing himself from the republican candidates who keep saying the same thing. Paul, doesn’t want to end any entitlements day one. He has clearly stated his desire to end them gradually so people can become self-sufficient. He knows people have become dependent, but he knows it’s unsustainable.

      I believe Paul’s biggest problem is his naivety. Ron Paul truly believes people are smart.

      (continued)
      Ron Paul doesn’t talk down to people or try to simplify things. He knows the issues are very complex and he speaks to people as if they were educated. For example, Paul rarely talks about the Navy. The navy is a constitutional mandate, and he assumes everyone knows the Navy will still patrol trade routes protecting American ships and protect America defensively. People don’t realize this. They think we will no longer have a presence in the world. That just isn’t true. However, Paul doesn’t talk about it because he doesn’t realize our populace is pretty ignorant as to how the government should be run.

      Obama could paint Paul’s policies however he likes. Paul can paint Obama’s policies as leading us to socialist Russia, and/or an Orwellian society.

      If you compare Obama’s policies to Romney’s you see: Obama will quickly lead us to economic collapse and most likely world war. Romney will slowly lead us to economic collapse and most likely world war.

      Either way you get economic collapse and you most likely get world war III.

      Can you be honest and tell voters you do not believe in individualism?

      Rick Santorum does have a long history of supporting gun control.

      In the 90s, he voted to support the Lautenberg Gun Ban, which stripped law-abiding gun owners of their Second Amendment rights for life, simply because they spanked their children.
      He voted for a bill in 1999 disguised as an attempt to increase penalties on drug traffickers with guns… but it also included a provision to require federal background checks at gun shows.

      And then he voted with gun-controlling Democrats Dianne Fienstein and Frank Lautenberg to mandate locks on handguns in 2005.

      He also supported and openly campaigned for anti-gun New Jersey governor, Christine Todd Whitman.

      They are not ramming anything. The people are deciding for themselves just like in the 2008 election, 2004, all the way back to 1988 when Ron Paul first started running for President. And this has been a talking point since.

      I will say I like some of Ron Paul’s stances but I like Rand Paul much better than Ron and I would like to see a Romney-Rand ticket.

      About Judge Napolitano, he has been shilling for Ron Paul very openly since the election began, there has been no question about this, and he shows it in every ‘episode’ of his show. So of course he would say this. But just as many independents go to Romney as go to Ron Paul, and he has Republicans as well. @TeaPartyForRomney

      Yes, they are ramming him through, and even nnelG is guilty of this by not asking the tough questions.

      All it would take to stop Romney in his tracks is to demand a clear answer as to how on earth he can back laws that spit on the Bill of Rights such as the NDAA that allows for YOUR arrest with no warrant, no formal charges, no trial, and no release date.

      His avoidance of discussing the disgusting actions of the TSA also sticks out like a sore thumb to anyone who actually respects the constitution.

      As someone who claims to be part of the Tea Party movement, how on earth can you back a candidate who openly holds the Constitution in such disregard?

      The truth of the matter is many of the original Tea Party Patriots will never vote for a candidate who has such obvious contempt for the Bill of Rights, and if the establishment foists another candidate upon us who stands for everything we stand against, the Republican party will never win another race for POTUS.

      When given the choice between Mao and Mussolini, the only moral choice is none of the above.

      Remember these words…if anyone other than Ron Paul (the original Tea Party Patriot) wins the nomination and you find yourself at your local high school being pulled over and strip searched by the NWO’s TSA…you will only have yourself to blame.

If people disagree with a convicted fellon be able to vote after serving his time ( which I think they should be able to ) in order to fully integrate back into society then I guess they disagree with Santorums voting record. Santorum only has to ask Romney if he disagrees with Fellons who have served their time and are out in society having voting rights. If he says yes ( which I think he would ) then Santorum is the same on the issue and it’s put to rest. The Constitution clearly states that the federal government ONLY has the rights given to it by the Constitution, but the states have all other rights that are not EXCLUDED it by the Constitution. However, technically speaking, Rick (as a Senator) was voting for federal action, not state action on this issue.

      You are right on the money…..”If we go under. Israel is on her own..we will cease to be” This might be the end goal for Israel’s enemies. Dr. Paul’s plan to stop all Foreign Aid to Israel’s enemies and get our fiscal house in order seems to be the only rational one.

      “Stop taking money from the middle class and the poor to give to rich dictators through foreign aid.”

      I’ve read all the comments here and many show insightfulness, list reasons, etc. However, most voters are being instructed by shills and pundits. The line “not electable” said by anyone is not acceptable. I’ve convinced myself that I must donate to Mr. Paul. He should have been elected several cycles ago. We have not missed our opportunity to change the course of this great country. He is the most intelligent, consistent and worthy candidate that the country has had for decades. He can pull in lefty libertarians and smart independents. It’s his time. When he wins the primary he needs to reach out to Palin the only other intelligent, consistent and worthy person out there. If it is not about principles what is it then?

    I‘m not happy with Romney or the GOP backbiting ’debates’ The process, however, is how America was built. Tell me one intelligent person who will vote against whoever the GOP nominee is. Whatever the process, shovel the garbage and BS aside, roll up your sleeves and replace the sorry administration (and any self-serving tax and spend politicians of either party). The slogan One Big Ass Mistake America is what it’s all about. Now change it in nine and one half months–or forever zip your lips!!

    Hey Santorum and Romney, how about stepping up the plate and telling the people just why you both endorse laws like the recently passed NDAA that allows US citizens to be arrested with no warrant, no witnesses, no trial, and no release date? ,

    How about telling us your views regarding the immoral and unconstitutional abuses by the TSA?

    Has anyone else noticed that the media (including nnelG) will not touch these issues?

    Hhhhhmmmm.

    Wake up folks, these candidates are nothing but shills for the NWO, and the only candidate who stands firmly against these unconstitutional abuses is Ron Paul.

    Santorum was less than truthful about the Gardasil issue and Governor Perry when he claimed it promoted promiscuity.
    For my money, I expect Republicans to leave their squabbles in the backroom, and focus on remedies for our crippled economy. Standard and Poor’s downgrade of France, Italy and Spain will put a damper on Europe’s consumption of one-fifth of American exports. Oil prices are rising, millions of homes are still slated for foreclosure, and many economists are revising economic growth from three percent down to two percent annually.
    Republican candidates need to take the fight to Obama on those facts, rather than running his errands.

      How about focusing on something that is actually far more important, like the wanton destruction of the Bill of Rights?

      The recently passed NDAA that allows for citizens to be arrested with no charges, no warrant, no trial, and no release date is perhaps the most dangerous law ever passed in our nation, and yet only one candidate is pressing this issue while the media (including nnelG) avoids it like the plague.

      Perhaps the real reason is they all endorse it? That would seem most obvious.

      Who in their right mind would vote for a candidate who spits on the Bill of Rights?

      That is by far more dangerous than any other issue we face today.

      There are many of us who simply will not vote for someone who openly spits on the Constitution, and the only candidate who actually defends it is Ron Paul.

      If given the choice between Mao and Mussolini, we will do the moral thing…and that is to vote for none of the above.

      A vote for any other candidate is a vote for the NDAA, and for allowing the TSA to strip search our spouses and our children at the whims of the NWO….for the simple right to watch our kids play a football game at our local high school.

From the majority of postings on the blaze, most of l you could care less for freedom. There is very little outrage at the loss of liberty being signed into law by supposed Tea party candidates, only three voted against NDAA. Three! Not once has Romney answered a question or voiced his opinion on any real issue. He is the same as Obama and even if he won, he would continue the path of dismantling our freedom. Felons tend to be Democrats. Nobody lets them get restored voting rights like Florida. I am surprised that Ron Paul is not for letting them vote too as a matter of social justice. He and Cynthia McKinney probably apparently think a lot alike. I am still surprised at how Ron Paul sounded like he was part of the Black Caucus when he answered or failed to answer the last question he got on his newsletter gig. I think he was trying to say that we needed a quota system to make sure that the fraction of minorities in the prison population looked like the fraction of the minorities in the non prison population. Underneath the whole answer was probably a left handed way of saying we are putting too many people of all races in prison for drugs. Once drugs were legalized, the government could kill the whole thing by regulating it to death.

    Rick Santorum is too left wing for me. I need a person with experience, 30 years for Ron Paul, someone who won’t vote for TARP-like legislation (Ron Paul), who won’t vote himself a raise (Ron Paul), who has a clean record of saying what he means and meaning what he says. Paul was the ONLY congressman in Texas who voted against NDAA!!!!!
    Go look up Paul’s voting record for Thirty years, he votes for the Constitution of the USA. Every Time
    Saint Santorum voted to Raise the Debt ceiling 5 times, Really?
    we need more debt?
    St. Santorum voted to increase the role of Gubment in housing. Fannie and Freddie
    St. Santorum voted for Sarbanes-Oxley
    Voted to raise taxes on Big OIL, eeeew
    Voted for Gun CONTROL, what?
    Voting to send hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest provider of abortion – and hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to Enemies of Israel.But unlike many of my other establishment opponents, Rick Santorum isn’t even trying to sweep his Big Government record under the rug.
    Voting to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, while voting against an additional 1,000 border patrol agents; St. Santorum makes me sick.

      Nah. It’s called a Paulbot! Its going to be Romney vs. Paul either way as Rick doesn’t have the money or organization as his rise come a little too late. If Romney does indeed win SC he‘s going to easily win Florida as Paul hasn’t put much attention into it. (Must be the High Jewish Population). If Romney wins the first 4 states.. there is zero chance anyone else has.

      Between the two I think I would much rather go with Ron Paul as he would at least be something different from the norm. Though it doesn’t matter because it looks like 4 states were able to 100% pick our nomination. Shouldn’t every state vote on the same day so everyone gets to help decide… Not 4 states!

      That, my friends, is Factbot.

Are they for bigger government? Yes. Does Romney want to lock me in a cage and have me beaten into submission? No, of course he doesn’t!

      Be realistic in your support for Ron Paul and not conspiracy nutcase. Alex Jones isn’t going to help Ron Paul get elected. People’s frustration for Government and his small government ideals is what WOULD get him elected. Not 9/11 truthers.

      If common sense played into voting, Obama would not be in the WH. Unfortunately, not all are as self-educated on recent politics (but hopefully are paying a little bit of attention) so they vote on emotion or what they have heard, time after time, and believe it. That is the liberal agenda and apparently PAC has taken that page out of the book. If Romney cannot control the ads PAC puts out, just as Paul says he didn’t know what was in his news letter, how can they control the United States of America?
