‘The 1 Percent Criminals’: You’ll Never Guess Where Occupy Wall Street Supporters Held a Recent Conference

Those questioning the Occupy Wall Street protesters’ slogan that they represent the 99 percent may have just gotten more evidence to support their skepticism.

Turns out, three American Occupy Wall Street-supporting professors joined Iranian counterparts at Tehran University last month for an Occupy Wall Street conference. Quoting Iran’s Press TV – which refers those opposing the movement the “1 percent criminals” – the Middle East Media and Research Institute (MEMRI) this weekend released a report on the event (video below):

“…university professors and scholars from around the world discussed various aspects of [the] Occupy Wall Street Movement“ and ”talked about the nature of the people that take part in the Wall Street movement, what effects it has had up to now, and its future.”

The meeting also took up what some might consider a questionable issue for American citizens to raise overseas and at that exact venue considering their nation’s current relations with the Islamic Republic: How Occupy Wall Street could impact the U.S. elections.

According to MEMRI’s transcription of a Press TV report, Prof. Alex Vitae of Brooklyn College said:

“…we know it’s had some impact both locally and nationally, but the impact has still been limited. I think many people are waiting to see what effect it may have on this year’s national elections, and whether or not this will have momentum that could have more far-reaching implications.”

A Fordham University professor was interviewed wearing a Muslim hijab, as is required attire for all female residents and visitors to Iran. Professor Heather Gautney of Fordham University said:

“…we have elections coming up in November, and I think that the movement is going to be incredibly active in pressuring politicians to start addressing issues of social inequality.”

Professor John Hammond of City University of New York provided information on upcoming “Occupy” events:

“…in May, the G-8 Summit will occur in Chicago, and many groups are planning to converge on Chicago with some kind of demonstration.”

Despite the “Occupy” movement’s scarce impact on policy, Press TV parroted the Occupy Wall Street 99 percent rallying cry, per MEMRI:

The Press TV correspondent concluded his report with the following statement: “At the end of the discussion, the speakers said that the Occupy Wall Street movement is just the tip of the iceberg, because a global movement is also on the way, which seeks to, and will, redesign the world order in favor of the 99% of the world.”

Besides the professors, there were other American participants in the conference. MEMRI reports:

One of them was Abdul Alim Musa, imam of the Masjid Al-Islam mosque in Washington DC, who is known for speaking in support of jihad and martyrdom, as well as his anti-American and antisemitic statements, including blaming terrorist attacks such as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 9/11, and the failed 2009 Christmas Day airplane bombing on the government.

At the conference, Musa told Press TV about the OWS movement’s mission of fighting “global Zionism” which, he said, uses “interest” and “debt” to “control the world.” […] “And I believe that Wall Street is fighting the monster of the day. The monster is not the Shoah [Holocaust] – the monster today is global Zionism. You’re using riba and interest – the tool that they use to control the world, to control each state, and each area of the world, is debt.”

In his address to the conference on February 14, Abdul Alim Musa “deplored the ruling establishment in the U.S., insisting that there is no democracy and human equality in the country.

      My first thought was, “OK, fine, let Chicago burn.” However, the POTUS (and wife) will just use this for the top to come down and then have the tax payers pay for all the new buildings and infrastructure. I’m wondering if Chicago in flames IS part of their plan?

      There’s been an impeachment bill drawn up for over a year now, (I forget whether it was Congressman King or Smith who drew it up.) but they won’t let it come out of Committee or even get a hearing there, and no one will sign on a co-sponsors, they just all say that’s not the way to go about it, to defeat him at the ballot box! I‘d like to know what they’re all afraid of. They say the FBI told the Georgia judge that if he’s removed it will start a civil war!

    Whats that Glenn? Ron Paul is an earmark king? YES! Why though? How is it that Ron has NEVER voted for an Earmark yet writes in a lot of them? Here it is earmark 101…for Glenn and others.
    Earmarks are not all bad. Earmarks=TRANSPARENCY and are a way for Congressmen to ‘get back’ tax dollars for the people they represent/constituents.
    If there were no earmarks then there would be NO transparency AND that money still gets SPENT. The money that would have gone to the ‘earmark’ instead goes to the executive branch (i.e. Obama) and the executive branch would spend this money however it/he see’s fit without DISCLOSURE. By earmarking and then voting against the bill Ron represents his constituents and at the same time is making the money TRANSPARENT.
    If those bills are NOT earmarked, the money is still SPENT (with NO transparency by the executive branch). By earmarking the bills you are making the money TRANSPARENT.
    Ron Paul has NEVER voted for an earmark.
    Cutting the number of earmarks does NOT cut spending. Earmarks account for roughly 1% of federal spending FYI.
    It makes sense to earmark the alloted funds and KEEP transparency vs NOT earmark and still spend the money with NO transparency.
    If EVERY Congressmen did what Dr. Paul dis concerning earmarks, we would NOT be having this conversation.

      Earmarks do not equal transparency. Earmarks are the opposite of transparency. If they were all about transparency then they would be in their own appropriations bills or at least contained within an appropriations bill where it’s even remotely related, not hidden on page 1165 of some unrelated bill. Earmarks = buying votes. Earmarks exist for the sole purpose of buying votes for legislation that could never pass on it’s own merit. The specific project an earmark is designated for may not be a bad thing in it’s own right, but it’s the attaching of it to completely unrelated legislation in order to get it that is the problem. It’s the legislation that is getting passed by buying votes with earmarks that has driven this country into the ground.

      Go blow your smoke up somebody elses ***.

      Back in the 60′s, I had a professor who fled Cuba and knew Castro before he became dictator. She showed us before and after photos of her homeland, and told us stories of how her family was murdered. I don’t recall her name, or even much about her. But her stories of Cuba made an impression on me that I’ll never ever forget. Communist totalitarian governments are bad folks … they’re very very bad.

    2) Weaken the economy to the point of collapse.

I have heard everyone call for peaceful protest, love everybody, etc. etc. Does anyone else see that this is not going to work? These people are meeting with the Iranians for Pete’s sake! This country will never be back to what it should be until we take it back, and I’m more fearful everyday that this will have to occur by force. Are there enough true patriots ready for that?

One could also add to your list the following: Demonize, target, tax & over-regulate the one U.S. industry that absolutely can drastically reduce dependence on foreign energy sources, the fossil fuel industry, i.e. coal, natural gas, and oil.

    Where are all of those who laughed at Glenn Beck when he foresaw and spoke of an unholy alliance between those on the left (Marxists & Anarchists) and the radical muslimes/pislamics?? How do you dispute this interesting turn of events. I am anxious to hear the left and the media’s excuses for this one. For sure they can’t blame this one on G.W.!!!!

    If they are conducting meetings in Iran, wouldn’t that make them enemies of the U.S., which makes them traitors? Is is not a secret that these Communist will align themselves with those countries who are trying to take America down. I say arrest them now under NDAA. They are potential enemy combatants. But, of course, this won’t happen because our Communist government members consider the Tea Party the enemy because they know if we group together, we can take them down and they lose all power again.

      We outnumber them by a margin 5:1 …if not higher. The real question is who is going to take these treasonious radicals on ? We have to give the Repubs the keys to the store in order to start the ball rolling back in the right direction. That requires we support whoever wins the Repub nomination …it all starts with winning the election in Nov 2012 and handing power back to the Repubs in all three branches of Fed Gov’t. We must give them majorities in the house, senate in order to reverse the damage done in the past 2 decades…then once we have those issues tackled then begin the long process of rolling back the rest of the progressive movements agneda. None of it can be left in place. This will take 20 years or more to accomplish so we MUST be patient and continue to support candidates that will do that job. WE also must refuse to fall for the Communists bait, giving them the reason they need to put the top down.
