The Amazing Golf Shot from This Weekend That Made a Commentator Swear on Live TV

If you watched sports news at all this past weekend, you couldn’t have missed video of Kevin Na. He’s the Korean-born golfer who moved to the U.S. at eight-years-old that has a hard time stepping up to the ball and hitting it. Seriously, he had to be scolded by officials at this weekend‘s Player’s Championship for taking too long to pull the trigger. But did you see his unbelievable shot from a cart path that made an NBC commenter swear on live TV?

If you watch the video below, you can see Na‘s jitters and the commentator’s disbelief (which results in an audible “shi*”). It happened during Na’s second shot at the 18th hole. In short, he ripped an insane “fairway” wood off the cart path:

And just in case the suspense didn’t kill you in the first video, here‘s some more of Na’s jitters:

And yes, he did get heckled for it (and for putting plenty of balls in the water during his round):

    I just can not watch him. In addition, it has to affect his playing partner. I know my head would explode if I had to wait for that on every shot. And why isn’t that swing he takes after he addresses the ball counted as a stroke? He should have been 30 over.

      A “stroke’’ is the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke.

      This is why I cannot watch golf. If it didn’t already have an extremely slow pace (a subjective criticism, I know), it‘s players like this guy that make me wonder why there isn’t a delay of game penalty enforced a la football and basketball. I don‘t see pitchers standing on the mound for a solid minute looking at the plate like he’s never seen it before…

      You’re right! And if I remember correctly it was a 9 hole course and he started with 11 balls. After sinking 9 for 9 he went ahead and sunk the last 2 in the 9th hole just for fun. : )))))

    Golf is a hard game to play. When someone gets a good recovery shot like Na did one can really appreciate it. Unless you play golf you cannot comprehend the hours of practice it takes just to be a duffer like me and play on weekends,….much less to be a pro. Na did a good job. The announcer was momentarily overcome and let out a swear-word. I saw that shot myself and said the same thing.

      Is there a rule of golf here that I’m not aware of? Should he not be charged with strokes on those swings? I use to play with a guy who would swing like all daylights and miss the ball… and then start again as if that was just a practice swing… We all knew what he did LOL

      @Wayner,

      Not a penalty until he actually attempts to swing at/move the ball. Alot of golfers have little quirks they have to get settled before “pulling the trigger”, but this guy actually has some sort of mental block. If you were to watch him alot, you can even hear him yelling at himself while he’s doing it.
      Weird, no doubt.

    What we have here is a failure of the annus to communicate with the brain to in turn communicate back to the annus that the brain wants the annus to release. This in medical terms is known as a brain-fart. You see, the annus tightens up and the brain sends a message to relax, the annus then does that and sends back a message that it has relaxed but then quickly changes its mind and tightens back up sending another message that things are not good. This second message freezes up the first message and a new message is sent back to relax …. and this sequence repeats itself over and over which finally causes the subject to blink … once he blinks the whole process of having to look at the shot over and over is repeated endlessly. Finally the subject blows out a fart that momentarily relaxes the annus and the shot is taken in a split second. This sometimes causes diareahhhhhhhhhh:). Thus, not good to wear white pants.

    Not an easy shot, I can attest to that, as I am frequently on the cart path or beyond in the rough. Fortunatley, I carry a “foot wedge” that can fix that bad lie.

    I only wish I had the time and money to play golf like I used to back in the good ole days, you know, about 4 years ago!
