The ‘American Fantasy’ Is Turning Into the ‘American Nightmare’: Van Jones Talks Economic ‘Fairness’ & ‘Justice’

Van Jones, President Obama’s former green jobs czar, spoke at a rally in Hawaii yesterday to promote “economic fairness” and “economic justice.” The rally was organized by groups who want the state to create a “State Partnership Bank,” according to the Hawaii Reporter’s Malia Zimmerman.
Why would these groups invite Jones to speak at a rally in support of a state bank? Simple: a “State Partnership Bank” (i.e. a “green” bank) would fund “green” energy projects, as well as “highlight other legislation that would make the local economy more just and sustainable,” Zimmerman writes.
“Among the legislative proposals is one to have the bank be led by the governor, union leaders and board members appointed by the Democrat-dominated legislature,” Fox News reports.
Unsurprisingly, Hawaiian Republicans (who are outnumbered 76 to 9 in the legislature) oppose the proposal. They say a state bank controlled by Democrats and union leaders would be nothing more than a taxpayer-funded organization, “led by political insiders,“ in the business of loaning money to projects ”that no private bank would authorize.”
However, Jones did not exactly address the state bank. He instead chose to focus on themes including “income inequality” and “dream killers in America.”
“Not the American dream they talk about on TV,” Jones said. “There are two American dreams. One of them I call the ‘American fantasy.’ You know that one? Everyone is going to be rich. Everybody. And we’re all going to be able to ride out to the great white suburbs, get a McMansion, get flat-screened TV to cover up the holes in our lives.”
“That is the American fantasy, which is turning out to be the American nightmare. It is dying out on its own accord – it deserves no defense and it will get no defense. I am glad that is going away. That was not serving anybody.”

He went on to talk about the earlier mentioned “dream killers,” saying that there are some “right here in Hawaii”:
There are people who have taken the American dream and turned it upside down, inside out. The dream is supposed to be that you can work hard, play by the rules and get somewhere. But you and I both know right here in Hawaii, and across America, the people who are working the hardest and following the rules are the ones who are being left behind, the ones who are suffering the most, the ones who are hurting the most.
And yet some people who are not working that hard at all, their investments work for them. And sometimes they break a lot of rules, especially on Wall Street. But they are the ones doing well. That is taking the American dream upside down, inside out. That’s killing the dream.
Jones concluded by asking the audience: “What does the American dream mean to you…and what are we going to do now and in the future to pass on a life that’s good for our young people?”

It is an accomplishment that can be attained by ANY individual that goes after it with the right heart. The American dream can be many different things to many different people! The American Dream is simply being Successful, when did it become wrong to be the best of something? How can anyone believe that there can be a society based totally on equality? Who will be in charge? Won’t we all be equally qualified? How will the pay scale work, does the cook get paid as much as the congress man? Does the teacher get paid as much as the Pro-quarterback? Does the door greeter get the income of a surgeon? How will all the cars and boats fit into our small communities? Will we be able to recycle the debris from the demolished apartments and government housing units to build everyone’s new home to be equal? Will my neighbors be allowed to have more children than me? More pets? More money, more education, more time off, more privileges, more and more? When, where, how does the equality even out? Coming soon to you, the all new “Equality Dream”!

Posted on March 21, 2012 at 3:18pmOnce again, Mr. Jones misses the point of the “American Dream”. There is no such thing as the “American Guarantee”. The American “Dream” of becoming successful is based on the fact that everyone has the same opportunity for success.
The point that Mr. Jones needs to be reminded of is that, rich or poor, the opportunity is the same (for both the poor AND the rich). In America, everyone has the same opportunity regardless of the state of the means. For some reason, means and opportunity have recently been put on equal footing. A main point of the constitution was that the poor were given the same opportunity as the rich. Which was not the case in the aristocracy of Europe.
You don’t get a “participation trophy” for just being and working as an American citizen. You didn’t win the citizenship lottery. You get ahead, not by working hard and being good at what you do, but by being the absolute best (read: better than everyone else) at whatever you do.

Even today, virtually every child in the country has a school to go to and learn at. Sure, some are better than others, but that does NOT explain or justify why many kids (mostly inner city but plenty of suburban kids) drop out and get into gangs, guns and drugs.
No, the American Dream was ALWAYS about the opportunity to improve oneself through work. That is what Barry and the Bandits and Van Jones are intentionally leaving out of the discussion.

The one thing Mr. Jones should have had to do in his lifetime…was go live in a communist country. I wonder how long he would be singing the praises of communism after living under its oppression? Mr. Jone would soon realize he would be put in a class system that offered no upward mobility.

If this becomes violent are you and the others who like to post on this and other sites ready to defend Freedom and Liberty or does it stop at the key strokes. I am not calling for nor am I promoting to bring violence but I am calling and promoting for people to prepare to defend because the enemy is no longer at the gates, the enemy is here and has become embedded in our government and is working to destroy this country bottom up and inside out. They are succeeding in fundamentally changing this country forever. Protect the Tree!
