The Charts That Show Why the U.S. Is ‘Screwed’

Henry Blodget over at Business Insider has a grim look at some charts from Mary Meeker of Kleiner Perkis — charts that Blodget says show America’s debt problem is so bad the only answer is raising taxes and lowering spending.* How bad is that? Blodget’s headline says “the U.S. is screwed.”
Blodget writes:
The presentation shows that we spend a lot on Education and Defense, but that isn’t the real problem. The real problem is Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid (especially Medicare and Medicaid). These programs are wildly more expensive than any other budget items, and they’re also growing like weeds.
As Mary’s charts show, there’s almost no chance that we can “grow our way out of the problem.”

Obama can entirely remove the theory of money and finance and eliminate the absolute danger of financial federal bankruptcy. Obama assures black mothers that their children will still receive everything due and have a rendezvous with reparations.
As the myths about Obama start draining into the public view we can all see the friends of Obama are not truly tree huggers, they’re thugs.

So does State depts of transportion. If not there Local would have to cut back. Medicaid and medicare both are paid in half with Fed money and matched at the state levels. This is why state are suing over obamacare. Know you facts. If you cut Fed funding most of the state would be bankrupt now. If the state dont do something in the near future they will go under any way.

We kicked people off their farms.
Told Everyone to go to college.
Told mothers to go to work.
Told fathers your no good.
Encouraged single motherhood.
Told everyone they’ll get a guarantee slice of the pie by force if neccessary…see housing loans pushed by Gov thru Fannie and Freddie.
Not everyone can have everything and this is now the proof. Now no one will have anything when its all said and done with.

Posted on May 2, 2011 at 8:05amThere’s far too much “law enforcement” as it sits right now, I believe it was Clinton who added 100,000 new officers (is that number what he claimed, I believe so?). We have cops on every corner and on every road, and not a bit of it has helped to deter crime to any extent. Cut cops by 1/2 across the nation. Also, I’m quite willing to not collect SS or Medicare, assuming that I no longer have to pay the tax for them (or only pay for a few more years to wean off the old folks already on it). Schools are locally funded, if the Fed is involved in funding them, then get the Fed out. There was very little to no Federal funding of schools until very recently, they’ll survive.

That will result in necessary self regulation, and greater efficiencies, as seen, for example, in the Chliean privatization of their “Social Security”. Net returns were roughly 10% for individuals, where ours is currently negative for those paying into it today. We are paying for a much bigger group of people.
We also need to fundamentally rethink our banking system. The only reason we accept it as “normal” is that historically power elites have almost always been able to sculpt something like what we have, which involves control of the money supply by an elite, and the use of other peoples money for personal enrichment.

I’m going to make a book out of it, but I‘m a perfectionist and I’m busy, which both work against an early completion. The basics are there though.
Provisional title is “Daisycutter: what to do when our politicians inevitably fail us”. The image, of course, is the very large bomb the Air Force drops from time to time. The program is what might be termed “Flash Hyperinflation”. Hyperinflation normally lasts for years. It is normally more or less hidden as to its causes. What, though, if you did the same amount of hyperinflation that, say, Weimar Germany did in two years, in one day? What if, further, you targeted the inflation to eliminate debt of all sorts, public and private?
Whatever else you may call it, it’s the only proposal of its sort out there, that I know of. Ending the Fed is just a stepping stone. It’s clearly necessary, both practically and morally, but we need to look at what good it can do on the way.

I have been to Europe as recently as late 2010. I can go anywhere in England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain….. even Italy. I can pass for nearly anyone there…..The MINUTE I open my mouth, those in my presence know immediately that I am from either from Canada or the U.S. They also know that if I do not have at least a limited command of whatever countries language I am in or by my western accent, I am either a visitor, a student, in the military, an American corporate exec., etc. The Europeans expect me to have a valid passport and in fact I can be expected to present it on various occasions. They are not “profiling” me, or “discriminating” against me, it is simply what I am expected to do for the legal presence in their country and I better be able to produce my eligibility to be there……not real tough to figure it out.

I honestly think that the people who watch Maher and Jon Stewart believing that they are being informed will not see the light until the day they go to the grocery store and cannot buy food. Notice how much of the MSM is concerned with telling the people that real threats are non-existent. I intended to get the book in Wilmington, Ohio when he was there but didn‘t because I had a strong suspecion that my kids were going to get it for me for Christmas but didn’t. They gave it to me for my birthday recently, so I finally was able to read it, which is quite good. The Tea Party is our only hope of putting out the information, but thank goodness for a book like Broke in breaking it down. I’m very impressed. This isn’t a sales pitch for the book. But something those charts made me think of since it’s currently the reading material on my plate. I‘d say the information is just in a nick of time if I didn’t really think it’s too late.

If one can’t legally carry, one shouldn’t be allowed to vote. It will have the dual feature of protecting the 2nd Amendment and keep everyone at the voting booth honest.

Teachers are told by administrators that they are NOT allowed to ask the parent who applies for the meals if they’re here LEGALLY….NO checks and balances are kept…at some schools kids get free breakfast TOO. I know this is the tip of the iceberg, but all you posters here know that ALL the govt does is come up with these stupid programs and NOBODY ever checks on how these things are administered. Just do some channel surfing any afternoon during the week –at least in this area — and witness all the lawyers advertising about your “RIGHTS” to collect disability from Uncle Sam……and all the lawyer has to do is prepare the paperwork and submit it to Social Security. Social Security PAYS off because they dont want the headache of fighting or investigating the case before them………..And so it goes……Unless we get some people performing DUE DILIGENCE on these give away programs, we’re surely doomed to be under Chinese rule…..its only a matter of time……VERY Sad…….Glenn’s right; we have to ban together and PRAY for one another…

However, ignoring the problem and living in denial doesn’t make it go away… at this rate in 5 years EVERYTHING will come to grinding halt and you won’t have to worry about social security, medicare, free condoms in the classroom, free abortions on demand, lavish public union wages and benefits, because it’ll all be gone, everything will be in collapse, there won’t be ANY money for anything, we’ll all be living in what will look like the scenes from The Day After… all bartering for food, water, medical supplies, schools will be gone, hospitals overrun and turned into morgues, and there wont be any need or worry about work, the economy or a balanced budget because everything will be gone.

Now I’m no mathematical genius but it seems to me the only way out of enslavement is to live within the means. The lame brane media rarely mentions the 2 plus trillion in revenue income. That’s more than enough to run the country and keep our borders safe.
Secondly the Progressive Commie Socialists Left-wing nut jobs are all convinced the only way to prosperity is through expansion of central gov’t. That philosophy is what is screwing the US financially. Real wealth has always come from the land, it’s people and the free market system.
The time is now more than ever to promote private businesses and force the central gov‘t to live within it’s means. Time to reclaim the Republic 2012!

Germany after World War I kept up all sorts of social spending, while at the same time having to pay stiff reparations to the Allies. The reparations were not beyond the ability of the German economy to support, had it not been for politics. Left-wing elements could not bring themselves to abandon entitlements, while right-wing elements proclaimed that it was virtually a patriotic duty to refuse to pay either reparations or taxes, so yawning deficits were covered by simply printing money. In 1923, when the French occupied the Ruhr to force payment, the Germans responded by refusing to work, so inflation (too much money chasing too few goods) became hyperinflation (a virtually infinite quantity of money chasing no goods at all.)
After 1923 (not 1920) the currency was stabilized by wiping out a dozen or so zeroes, and supported by short-term loans from American and other foreign bankers. In 1928 these foreign funds began to dry up as capital sought higher returns on Wall Street, and they dried up totally after the 1929 Crash brought about a mad global rush for liquidity. In Germany, the Depression brought renewed deficits to a country where both left and right, remembering the horrors of 1923, clung desperately to budget-balancing.
What to do? In effect, the left wanted to balance the budget on the back of business, by increasing taxes to pay unemployment benefits, while the right wanted to balance the budget on the backs of workers and the unemployed, by cutting or eliminating the benefits. A political deadlock ensued: sound familiar? It was resolved by suspending parliamentary government and replacing it with presidential rule by decree after 1930, and ultimately of course by something even more extreme.
Nothing wrong with what you say, just thought I’d “flesh it out” a little, by pointing out that a little give and take might have spared the Germans and everyone else a lot of trouble. But no, everyone had to stand on principle!

What you didn’t elaborate on was 1932 Germany and the similarity to current issues and rhetoric. This is the “scary” part that I saw coming while O‘rock Oh’mama was running on the word change, the EXACT word that our great friend Adolph used. Thank our real supreme leader for WWII and it’s effect to stomp out Progressivism (the Maxist buzz word, along with Social Democracy) for a long while.

We need to get companies back here and stop building up Chinas economy. We need to make things here again and make these welfare leeches get to work. It was supposed to help you out just until you got back on your feet but we have 3 and 4 generations on welfare. I just do not understand how this all happened. We went on with our lives, thinking that the people we elected were taking care of things and then we wake up finally..I really don’t get the illegal alien thing at all. Some of the costs of schooling, welfare, food stamps, housing and hospital care for them are more than some states budget for the entire year and they just let it continue. What can we do? These people have got to go. The repubs need to get serious. They are our only hope right now. We need people who care more about this country than getting re-elected. Sorry for the rant and I could go on and on but I am so furious.

I, for one, would pay a co-pay when I went to a doctor with my medicare card, but they won’t let me. I think that should be a requirement. I tried to keep my BCBS after I turned 65 but because of Obamacare, my premium went from $800 to $1600 a month. I was also told that if I didn’t enroll within 6 months of turning 65, my premium would encase by 10%. In other words they were going to penalize me any way I went.

Keep the budget at $3 trillion a year, using $2 trillion a year for the debt until it’s paid. Government runs on only $1 trillion a year until it’s done. That will take almost nine years to complete–see how bad things are?
Rioting in the streets? Shoot the rioters and be done with it. They’re dregs, anyway, so we’re better off without them.
I know that’s harsh. But I really don’t care at this point. For years, the Left has tried to make homelessness into something somehow ‘noble’, almost sanctified. I refuse and reject that ideal.

We were robbed by Social Security, at gunpoint; government left no way for us to opt out. Consider it theft and be done; it‘s over and we’ll never ‘get back’ a dime. While the figures of what we’re owed seem tempting to want to reclaim, it’s water over the dam.
We need restoration at long last. If we can pull it off, prosperity and previous losses will be restored in short order.

Rioters should be/probably will be shot as the cities go under martial law. It will happen. If these programs are not cut, we will run out of money anyway and the entitlements stop dead in the water, until our debtors come in to survey their winnings and purge any uncooperative folks that resist. The writing has been on the wall collecting dust for a long, long time.

Welcome to the club! You’re going to have to get over it if this country is going to survive. At 51 yo, I had to choose, my home or heath care, I couldn’t afford both…I chose my home. I have no medicare, will never get the SS that I paid all my life either. So what!! Many people are in this situation. I would rather see this country get rid of entitlements and survive. It won’t be easy for any of us, but God put us all here, at this time, for a reason…we can handle it.

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 2:50pmUpState – I don’t think that the Government will default on the SS …. what they could and probably will do is suspend COLA adjustments then devalue the currency and create inflation so as to make the monthly SS payment good for little more than a single grocery bill for the month. Of course as prices rise incomes will inflate and tax revenues will inflate and APPEAR to reduce the deficit. Of course all savings will be reduced to petty cash in a piggy bank. Progressives love this since the citizens will be unable to avoid being slaves of the Government to be directed here, there and everywhere in accordance with the whims of the Politburo.

I’ve been preparing for the last two years, and even then I doubt if that was soon enough. Store food, water, extra clothing, a supply of silver and gold if you can afford it, and if you don’t know anything about firearms NOW IS THE TIME TO LEARN! Those rioters we refer to here are no joke…it‘s a reason why I don’t live near a big city at all! Find a safe place to run to if needed, and pre-position much of your storage items there for just in case…and don‘t let anyone you don’t trust know what you’re doing either… Paranoid???? I hope everyone here is going to do more than just blog about this and really get involved as much as you can in the process. write, call, email those turds who say they represent you. Let them know how MAD you are about their spending, stealing, corruption, and lying. As a people we allowed these politicians to steal from us by dipping into the social security and leaving a promise note in place of the funds. We sat back in our little bubble worlds as they stole more money when times were good cause we thought the country was fiscally set forever. And then we thought it was governments job to supplement everything from energy to chicken eggs. We don’t hesitate to rebuild or build infrastructure in other countries trying to buy their friendship and neglect our own. After rebuilding or paying off other countries they laugh at us at and calls us the great satan. We allowed corporations to move most of our manufacturing out of this country just so we could buy this stuff at a cheaper price.

But what do you see now, people who have been on welfare for generations complaining when the check is late or smaller, people who think this can be fixed by taxing those who worked harder and made more cause they actually believe the so-called “rich” are just greedy.
We are in very desperate times to say the least, but I really don’t think more government and entitlement is the answer. Time for some people to actually get off the entitlements and get a job, rather than game the system.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I am mad as can be about this and am not going to tolerate some ignorant politician or regulator taking what I have worked for to give to some slug. Let them try.

Guess what Federal discretionary spending & unemployment spending come to… 1.136 Trillion. That’s less than 165 billion from a balanced budget! Take Obama-care out of entitlements in we are in the green! The problem we have is that the Federal Government is just too big. That’s all! Shrink the fed by at least 50% if not more. We would be just fine with a 75% smaller Federal Government. Most of us wouldn’t even know that it happened except that many things may have magically gotten easier!
This is all specious anyway. The SS & Medicare is supposed to a self-funded separate tax that was in a lock box right? If not the Democrats lied. All the other expenses are paid by our income tax.
What is also not taken into account is the fact that if you grow the economy you will generate much more tax revenue. If you burden the economy and raise taxes you will actually decrease tax revenue in the long run. The worst thing you can do is raise taxes on the everyday Americans. If you want to close loopholes and make sure big corporations can’t buy a take break from the Democrats. i.e. G.E. … do that. Don’t you find it appalling that we had the biggest deficit in the history of the planet, G.E. makes record profits, and thanks to the Democrats who had complete control of Congress, The Senate and the Executive branch (that’s the president for the libertards out there) G.E. paid zero in taxes? My question is why aren’t there people in jail right now? That includes Nancy, Harry & Barry.
I have even easier solution. This one is fair. Since Democrats are responsible for most of the debt why don’t we have a mandatory one time payment from every person in the country. If you are a Democrat you pay a share based on all the deficits accrued during Democrat administrations and Republicans will pay a shared based on all the deficits accrued during Republican administrations. Independents and other parties including non affiliated people will just have to pay a share based on the all the debt.

I told him, then you would be disarming your allies, and good luck with taking mine! He could not figure out what to say to me at that point, we just kind of stared at each other for about a minute! You have? Uh, kindly show us when and where. I’ve only seen your name recently on this blog and I have been here since this site was started, so I am curious.
Everyone knows that the sky is falling, and most know that it’s going to get dicey in the very near future. At least those that PAY ATTENTION know all this, but I don’t expect any sensible move to come from this administration to tackle the problem. In fact, I expect the opposite. By the time the next presidential election comes around this country will have collapsed, or will be on the verge.
Either way we are going to need one h*ll of a leader occupying the WH, and from what I have seen up to now, there is only one person that has the cajones to keep this country from melting down into complete chaos. That person is Rep. Allen West. The fake man of Steel (Superman) may have given up on the USA, so we need to find one that can deal with the hard reality of what’s about to happen. I think Allen West may very well be our new “Man of Steel”.

I remember when I was a kid.. we had emergency insurance so IF something BAD happened it would be covered.. however.. for seeing a doctor we paid cash.. and medicine was affordable.. one only seen a doctor when they were REALLY sick NOT when you had a cold.. an ache.. the reason that MEDICARE and MEDICAID have become so expensive it you have a general doctor.. (for colds) THAN they send you to a wide variety of specialist for each symptom.. the specialists than run tests.. it seems if they would just do a body scan and blood test on everyone once a year it would be CHEAPER..Those on MEDICAID don‘t care it’s ALL FREE to them.. while the poor suckers who paid into MEDICARE their entire life and had to carry private insurance for themselves and their families.. while paying taxes so those on MEDICAID could have FREE healthcare.. are being told they are now a BURDEN on the government/ and society in general because the government stole their money and mismanaged it.. I find this DISGUSTING.. we are now telling our seniors they are a burden after paying 3x’s for medical their entire working life..Now they want to LIMIT the amount of health care seniors can have .. This is the perfect example of the government using people as serfs.. taking their money than casting them aside..

We’ve printed VAST amounts of money in so called stimulus programs to supposedly strategically inject them into the economy to jump start it again. Although I am not certain how injecting money into infrastructure does any more jump starting other than line the pockets of the unions the government uses. It’s all been a game people and you were not invited to play. They’re simply robbing the last bit of wealth before the whole system comes crashing down. What happens to us and the rest of the world after the greatest nation the world has ever seen is consumed is unkown territory. This week the European central bank and IMF are meeting to restructure Greece since they’re spending has reached an astonishing 150% of GDP. No country has ever sustained themselves with that amount of spending. Ireland is pushing back against the EU bailouts because of the “extra” stipulations that come with recieving money from their masters. And Portugal is wavering on the fence of either accepting a bailout or just defaulting on their debt all together. And since back in the 60‘s some genious’ thought it would be a great idea to tie all the economy’s together (with the idea that there would not be prolonged wars since it eventually would come back to you if you disrupted the stability of the markets) we could very well witness the collapse of the EU in the coming weeks, thus it would freak markets across the world and send a massive shockwave through our system. We could very well be pulled down as well since we are at a very unstable point and consumed in massive amounts of debt. It’s a domino effect for the globe people. I hope everyone has already prepared and is only in the final stages of preparation, although I still see people making excuses as to why they are not. I’ve tried educated my soldiers so they can take care of their families in case any emergency happens with a broad plan to cover things like financial collapse, earthquakes and natural disasters, food shortages, water shortages, and total anarchy. The world has changed so much lately. It seems like its all a dream with all the unrest across the globe and only seems to be accelerating. If you’re not prepared get prepared now! 44 million people are receiving government handouts, 93% of Americans don’t even have a 72 hour plan laid out, we live 9 meals away from anarchy (i.e the average grocery store has three days worth of food for the area it services and the average product travels 1500 miles form distributor to your plate) What do you think is going to happen when the trucks stop running?
