The Christian Parody to Rebecca Black‘s ’Friday‘ That You’ve Been Waiting for

Remember Rebecca Black? She’s the 13-year-old behind the viral, 88-million views video hit “Friday” — the song that spawned wishes for her death because it may have been the “worst song ever.” In case you don’t remember, here it is:
Now, there have been a lot of parodies of the song. And by now, the song itself may be slightly stale (although I play it every Friday morning). But when someone makes a Christian version of the song — complete with a doppelganger music video — that deserves a little coverage.
That “someone” is Sadie B. and Community Christian Church in Chicago. Complete with references to the Bible, Easter, pews, God being your friend, and even the acronym PTL (Praise the Lord), it’s definitely the evangelical version. You decide whether it’s a good or bad thing:

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 9:04pmI am not a Christian. That being said, she sang a great deal better and, personally, I would rather see a girl her age going to church than heading out to ‘party’ on the weekend…unless you like the thought of thirteen year old girls doing the wild thang like spring time squirrels…

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 8:35pmI see two young women having fun and singing about what they believe. So they are not professionals, every one has to learn sometime. I thought they both were good, if their message grates on you, too bad.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 10:14pmOne can always tell a liberal…..they make NO sense. This girl and her friends are everything that is right about this country. I try to display Christian behavior, but I have to admit that I have a problem praying for Christian haters. The only reason to hate Christians is because you all know you are in the wrong. Jesus is light…and you hate the light.
Sadie B….You GO Girl!!!! and don’t let anyone stop you!!

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 6:47pmThats cool that she did that about church, but she should’ve picked a better song
Report Post »Islesfordian
Posted on April 7, 2011 at 6:55pmAnother song wouldn’t have made the point that it is better to value the day of worship than the beginning of the weekend.
Luther said, “Why should the Devil have all the good music?” Given how poor the musical tastes of our generation has become, he might have clarified himself by saying, “Why should the Devil have all the songs people are listening to?”

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 9:12pmIs money what it is all about? With Rebecca Black yes, what this young girl did at a young age is profess her Faith. How many adults will do that today? Will She regret this video in 20 yrs? Rebecca Black May but not Sadie B.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 11:32pmSorry but I disagree with you NOOFFENSEBUT…ALL of my kids enjoyed church growing up and still do as young adults ages 18 to 24. I think it’s great that this girl did this parody. I sure wouldn’t want MY 13 year old looking forward to the weekend for partying. And there are a lot of good fun things and many friends to make at church.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 9:34amI loved church and Young Life, et al. It all depends on the kids that you are there with, and the instructors that you have teaching. Much like school.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 10:02amThere is no commandment that states “Thou shalt not lie”.
There is one that states “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” but that is a very specific kind of lie.
I love music and I love to see kids have fun. Both videos are catchy and the young ladies were having fun expressing themselves and using the gifts God gave them. Screw YouTube and all the losers who hang there.

Report Post »stormcrow53
Posted on April 8, 2011 at 1:36amApparently I am. I must assume that all those negative critiques of both young ladies were written by successful songwriters, lyricists and expertly trained vocalists and musicians. I am equally certain that some will say “I know what I like when I hear it and what I don’t like when I hear it” but I have also heard similar remarks levelled at Mozart, Buddy Holly, Bob Marley and, God forbid, Frank Sinatra. I suspect the kids were having fun. I love a world where kids can still have fun. Lighten up. As always, in honest and honorable societies, wisdom and kindness will prevail and eventually individual talent will be recognized and amply rewarded. The human propensity for unique expression and creativity is undeniably evident throughout history and cannot be stifled by the dreary, suffocating web of collectivism. We are not drones no matter the time, effort and resources expended to convince us otherwise. The snag in an otherwise unblemished fabric of being is that the price for such prudent existence is eternal vigilance and inevitably commensurate sacrifice on the part of the present generation in order to prepare the future generations for the struggle for individual liberty and responsibility that they shall undoubtably face. In all honesty my enthusiam in providing for the general welfare of future generations in that regard has been somewhat tepid in nature if not entirely lacking. That shall be remedied. Exalt individual achievement, reward talent, recognize compassion, honor charity and, of course, do to others as you would have done to you. All else is commentary. (Pardon me, Hillel.) Simply put, success is not possible without sacrifice. (I suppose I could just erase everything before that last sentence.) I regret the lack of brevity.
