Frank Marshall Davis: Why Obamas Mentor Went From Republican to Devout Marxist | The CommunistLast Friday, The Blaze provided you with a first look into Paul Kengor’s soon-to-be released, provocative book published by Mercury Ink, entitled, “The Communist,” which closely examines the life of President Obama’s longtime mentor, Frank Marshall Davis.

After establishing why presidential mentors have, historically, been of great import and consequence, Kengor goes on to explain how this devout Marxist actually began his political path as a Republican, often stumping for GOP presidential contenders on their respective campaign trails. Of course, especially at the time, the GOP represented the party of Lincoln while Democrats comprised the Southern racists so reviled by black Americans.

Oddly, Davis took a turn for the hard-left after being duped into believing that the racism he experienced as a black youth growing up in Kansas, and, later on into adulthood, was the product of a diseased Capitalist system, and that only the Soviet Union had managed to crack the code of equality, thus creating a racism-free utopia for all.

Yes, you read that correctly. Frank Marshall Davis became a card-carrying member of the Communist Party U.S.A. after being successfully indoctrinated by a clever Soviet-led propaganda campaign that targeted members of the American black community. The former USSR achieved this seemingly impossible feat by manufacturing what were known as Potemkin villages (or Potyomkin villages). These stage props were created to showcase an “ideal” agrarian society flourishing under the banner of Marxist-Leninism.

In the Potemkin, workers appeared thrilled with their positions in life, homogeny fostered “tolerance,” agricultural output was bountiful, and majestic birds soared on high through perpetual skies of blue. Indeed, on the surface, it seemed Mother Russia had successfully birthed a picture-perfect existence.

To ensure such a golden propaganda opportunity was not missed, Soviet officials courted progressive Americans, ultimately taking them on highly orchestrated tours of the Potemkin. On cue, rubes such as Paul Robeson, a close friend of Frank Marshall Davis and renowned singer, returned from the excursion with praise on their tongues and a reaffirmed commitment to Communism in their hearts.

One of the most interesting points Kengor notes in the book is how American Communists were absolutely consistent in their inconsistency. For example, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt finally signed onto World War II, Davis, along with his Marxist counterparts cursed the president’s very existence, dubbing him a “fascist warmonger and xenophobe. The vitriol was spawned by the fact that at that time, Joseph Stalin had already signed a pact with Adolf Hitler, thus a war with the Rhineland meant a war with the Motherland.

It wasn’t until Hitler betrayed Stalin and invaded Russia that Frank Marshall Davis and his minions wholeheartedly signed onto the American war effort to defeat Nazism and lauded Roosevelt the toast of the Daily Worker.

Mind you, when Hitler banded together with Stalin, American Communists, many of whom were Jewish, abandoned the party in droves (and for obvious reason). Thus, the idea that members of the black community could ever have supported, for any reason, Hitler and his Third Reich, speaks volumes about their blind, even self-destructive devotion to the Communist agenda.

“I want liberals to realize that the Communist weren’t their friends”, Kengor told me during an interview. “They need to realize that they [Soviets] used liberals” and saw them as “dupes.”

For some reason or other, despite being preyed upon as merely pawns in a Soviet public relations campaign, despite being expendable even to the point of imprisonment and death, the Frank Marshall Davis’ of the U.S. remained steadfast in their commitment. What was in it for them still remains to be seen, but through Davis’ writings for American Communist newspapers in Chicago and later in Honolulu, the Soviets perhaps saw him as one of the most useful idiots of all.

In the next installment of our behind the scenes look into “The Communist,” which will be released on July 17, author Paul Kengor and The Blaze will share some of the stark parallels between the Obama administration’s policies, positions and slogans, and the writings and beliefs of Frank Marshall Davis. From the terms “forward!” and “change” to the use of “social justice pastors,” the revelations will shock even the staunchest Obama critic.

      Great story! I had no idea about the ties of racist propaganda to Communism. This explains why they constantly rely on racism on one hand and denounce it on the other. The hypocrisy was always so clear to me that it confounded me that Liberals were unable to see it, but now I have a clear point of origin. Indeed Communists used Liberals as “useful idiots.”
      This also explains why Democrats always try to tie Republicans to the Nazis even tough there is no true link. Yet they cry foul if anyone mentions all those known Democrats, like Byrd, who were famous KKK members.
      By the way, for you Liberal trolls out there.. I don’t care about the parties. I consider myself a small government anti-Progressive… an honesty seeking, Conservative leaning, Constitutionalist Libertarian.

    Love your friend as yourself: which is to say that if you are willing to work for your own wellbeing, you should equally work for your friends wellbeing; and love the Creator with all your heart and mind and strength: that if you work for the wellbeing of others the Creator wil provide for you; and from the sin of Adam we are to work the earth to survive.
    Your problem is not with Communism-which is a social structure; your problem is with the implementation of its supposed precourser-socialism-by non-altruistic dictators that try to create a social structure through government, and onto a society that is in love with itself, not the Creator or his fellow man.
    There has only been one altruistic communist society since civilization began, excluding the hunter/gatherer tribes as this was pre-civilization: Isreal. Even theirs was short lived which is why Jesus was showcasing the self absorbed Jews of His time as having lost the way; all of the “communist” regimes you despise have never reached a communist society, because man is not ready for it yet, we have to love our friend as ourselves and the Creator with all our might, both of which are learned behaviors when we realize the suffering we incur through self love.

      Read the Parable of the Talents. I think it clearly shows Jesus taught to work/invest and earn a living. The Good Samaritan also shows that men are to help each other and not rely on government. I don’t know the passage, but the bible says if you don’t work, you don’t eat. It really sounds more like Capitalism then Communism. Maybe others can add more to what I have posted.

      Love can not be mandated by a government. Love is spiritual, not material . Governments / Caesar deal in the material. In today’s world there is too much emphasis on the material and an avoidance and almost abhorrence and denial of the spiritual – which is why the world is becoming such a nasty mess.

      Jesus Christ promoted an understanding of what was of this world and what belonged to His Father’s world. Utopia is of God’s kingdom, not of mans. Man is intrinsically flawed and can only achieve Utopia/Heaven through God’s Grace.
      It is our duty to provide a place where any human can choose God‘s kingdom and live a life that seeks God’s Grace, and that choice can’t be made for him.       I think you have a confused understanding of Jesus’ teaching. If you look at the totality of Christ’s teachings you will see that you are to owe no ma ,Romans 13:8 and pay your taxes to Ceasar and pay your debts. Matthew 17:24-27, Matthew 22:15-22 and Romans 13:5-7. He also taught that we are to provide for our own or we are worst than an infidel. He also taught the resposibility of stewardship in the parable of the Talents Matthew 25:14-30 and there are many examplesof this. Christ never taught that the government should take care of your neighbor, but that you should as you stated. The key is that communism, socialism, marxism and fascism are all based on lies and false premises that in practice have the complete opposite effect of their intentions. Jesus taught personal responsibility and personal morality not collectivism and collectivist salavation or morailty. If the individual is immoral, the population by default becomes as immoral as the individuals in it. If they become the majority, then you have an immoral population aka Sodm and Gomorra, remember them?. That is why man needs salvation on an individual basis which then transforms society one person at a time. Communism is a farce and a fraud. Take it from a Cuban ex-patriate who experienced communism first hand. What they claim going in and what happens whenthey are in are two different things. Obama promised Hope and Change and got Pessimism and Pain. Good night my friend, in what country has Marxism worked??

      Don’t misquote someone and then not know the meaning of the misquote. There is nothing wrong in having compassion for any one including creatures that try to survive the best they can. There is nothing wrong in preferring a culture of farmers as well as hunter gatherers.

      Jesus DID NOT and I repeat “did not” say that the people should love their friends and labor for their well being. That is absolutely a false statement. Jesus said, according to the bible, —
      Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
      Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you–

      That, my friend, is not communism by any stretch of your imagination. The true Hebrew meaning of “Love your enemy” is very simply put that you should let your enemy live in peace. That means that you mind your own business and if a guy wants to clobber you, clobber him first or wait till he comes at you but don’t meddle in the affairs of other people such as this Marxist DC gang does all over the world. “Love you enemy” does not mean that you embrace the filth of others and pollute yourself with their filth.       When asked which was the greatest of the commandments He told them to love you friend as yourself, which commandment included all the rest. He also said to love the Creator with all your heart, mind, and strength. I feel comfortable with the accuracy of my paraphrase.

      As for the other replies, you bashed my statement, then restated most of it as an opposing thought. Do not let your hatred get the best of you.

      As for the government running society, I already stated that was the problem.

      the notion that we are not capable of seeing the heaven we‘re in is we’re blinded by our desires, out ego. Only in a mode of “love your friend as yourself” can we even begin in spirituality. And thus while we pursue our selfish desires the very essence of the teachings is lost from the start of the endeavor, which is our whole purpose in the universe.

      Marxism/Communism illustrate man’s attempt to achieve heaven on earth, and the concept sounds wonderful, but there’s one small problem: human nature, which must be brutally suppressed for either to work. Islam, as a whole, doesn’t even sound good (to obey and immitate Mohammed in all things for all time (Sunna)), but once you’re a Muslim, they will kill you should you dare violate its rules without permission requiring the violation to advance Allah’s cause (Anthony Weiner’s wife and president Obama are but two examples).

      So if I have a car and I want to get across a sea, do I drive into the water and hope it floats? Or do I do some work and correct it to achieve the goal?

      Take your own words to heart: “The Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven” God it telling us to do his will on earth, his Kingdom is in Heaven. He is not asking us to pass his will on to a Government entity.
      If you choose the path of Christ, it is your hands that Christ wants to use, not your elected official’s. It is your neighbor’s mouth you need to feed and your brother’s child you need to clothe.
      You can’t mandate Utopia or God’s will. A man who chooses to follow the path of Christ will naturally give, love, nurture… but a man who is required to give, will only give what is required.
      Our laws must give us the freedom to follow Christ, not provide a government issued roadmap to Heaven.

They have destroyed people’s motivation, creativity, and morality.     According to Paul Robeson Jr. his father was never actually a member of the Communist Party. But, it doesn’t really mater, because it doesn’t take much research to see that he certainly sympathized with the Communists, and he was in agreement with Davis in that he believed that Communism was the only way to achieve racial equality. It’s a shame really, Robeson was a man of immense talent, and he pretty much destroyed his career over his ridiculous political beliefs…

      He may not have been a “card carrying member” of the party, but he did make frequent trips to Mother Russia and advocated Communistic beliefs in many of his later films. He may have regretted his decision when he discovered that part of the “equality” the Communists practiced included paying its propagandists the same amount as they paid janitors. Robeson had been one of the highest paid actors – black or white – in Hollywood.

    In any communist regime, the progressives are always target first, because it is those who wanted change who will be demanding more change when the system does not work. It is the conservative, that will work to make it work, no matter how bad it is. The progressive will not work. Therefore, the progressive will become the target of the new system. It is already happening in Europe.

Have you noticed how much ” race,” which had been a pretty dead issue in the Age of Oprah, has come back – front and center – since Obama was elected ? Our first bi -racial president. Chosen, not so much by the fact of his “ unified” race, but by his Far Left indoctrination. And all kept hidden, like his school records and composite girlfriends, by an internationally allied, Far Left Lap Dog Media. Our Manchurian candidate .       Obama has set race relations back 20 years. There is more anger, distrust and racial divisiveness then anytime since my youth (I’m now in my sixties). I fear our president’s constant efforts to divide the people of this country for political gain may result in no person of color being elected to such high office for the remainder of my life. A true American tradgedy!

    Our Marxist president‘s whole life is filled with communist’s ,socialist‘s and anarchist’s,that‘s all he’s ever known so it should come as no surprise to anyone except the most dense liberal which all of them are very dense that Barry became a Marxist.

    We see it in they way he has ruled over us these past three and a half years,it’s obvious and this latest example,‘I’m paraphrasing, ‘if you became wealthy you didn’t do that someone else did’.
    We’re supposed to take this man seriously? he‘s a joke and disgrace to the office and can’t be fired soon enough.

    Yes , they were useful idiots, much like the “Occupy” movement have been as well for Obama. We know what he is doing (Destroying Capitalism and the American Way of Life) and trying to usher in Communism. Obama can not be allowed to have another four years to complete his objectives. We must vote him out at the ballot box in November. Romney is our best hope of saving this great nation and we must come together as a nation behind Mitt in order to save our souls of our children and grandchildren.

    Please more carefully proofread your articles, Blaze. “Their, not there”, etc.. I realize these things are written quickly and often under time constraints, but this article has a lot of mistakes. That being said, I really want to order and read this book. I hope Paul Kengor will be interviewed on the networks about his new book.

      in which the lineage of more than a dozen notable African Americans is traced using genealogical and historic resources, as well as DNA testing.

      Can you imagine if Obama genealogy & DNA was investigated. I don;t know the truth but he has lied so often & so glibly in his autobiography That I have doubts that he is of Kenyan heritage.

      Maybe if we could get a cigarette butt he drops or a glass he has used. We could test it & compare it to the DNA of his purported half brother.

      The Secret Service gather up all the knives & forks when he spoke at a Hispanic conference.

      Can you imagine if the Secret Service has to gather everything that he touches?
