The ‘Murky’ Details: This is How the OBL Raid Went Down

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Helicopters descended out of darkness on the most important counterterrorism mission in U.S. history. It was an operation so secret, only a select few U.S. officials knew what was about to happen.
The location was a fortified compound in an affluent Pakistani town called Abbottabad, two hours outside Islamabad. The target was Osama bin Laden.
The compound.
Intelligence officials discovered the compound in August while monitoring an al-Qaida courier. The CIA had been hunting that courier for years, ever since detainees told interrogators that the courier was so trusted by bin Laden that he might very well be living with the al-Qaida leader.
Nestled in an affluent neighborhood, the compound was surrounded by walls as high as 18 feet, topped with barbed wire. Two security gates guarded the only way in. A third-floor terrace was shielded by a seven-foot privacy wall. No phone lines or Internet cables ran to the property. The residents burned their garbage rather than put it out for collection. Intelligence officials believed the million-dollar compound was built five years ago to protect a major terrorist figure. The question was, who?
The CIA asked itself again and again who might be living behind those walls. Each time, they concluded it was almost certainly bin Laden.
President Barack Obama described the operation in broad strokes Sunday night. Details were provided in interviews with counterterrorism and intelligence authorities, senior administration officials and other U.S. officials. All spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive operation.
By mid-February, intelligence from multiple sources was clear enough that Obama wanted to “pursue an aggressive course of action,” a senior administration official said. Over the next two and a half months, Obama led five meetings of the National Security Council focused solely on whether bin Laden was in that compound and, if so, how to get him, the official said.
Normally, the U.S. shares its counterterrorism intelligence widely with trusted allies in Britain, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. And the U.S. normally does not carry out ground operations inside Pakistan without collaboration with Pakistani intelligence. But this mission was too important and too secretive.
On April 29, Obama approved an operation to kill bin Laden. It was a mission that required surgical accuracy, even more precision than could be delivered by the government’s sophisticated Predator drones. To execute it, Obama tapped a small contingent of the Navy’s elite SEAL Team Six and put them under the command of CIA Director Leon Panetta, whose analysts monitored the compound from afar.
Panetta was directly in charge of the team, a U.S. official said, and his conference room was transformed into a command center.
The military operation took mere minutes.
U.S. helicopters ferrying elite counter-terrorism troops into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden’s hideout – and back out again in less than 40 minutes.
Details of exactly how the raid unfolded remain murky. But the al-Qaida courier, his brother and one of bin Laden’s sons were killed. No Americans were injured. Senior administration officials will only say that bin Laden “resisted.” And then the man behind the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil died from an American bullet to his head.
“I heard a thundering sound, followed by heavy firing. Then firing suddenly stopped. Then more thundering, then a big blast,” said Mohammad Haroon Rasheed, a resident of Abbottobad, Pakistan, after the choppers had swooped in and then out again.
It was mid-afternoon in Virginia when Panetta and his team received word that bin Laden was dead. Cheers and applause broke out across the conference room.

As for the GB being right or wrong. Didn’t Glenn say in an interview a couple of years ago when asked “where do you want to be in 10 yrs?”, and he answered “I want to be Wrong.” So BIN your point while observant is pretty much moot in the light of his answer to the above question.

Bin Laden’s death could very well incite many more attacks on U.S. interests than those that were already planned. The radicals have a modern day martyr to rally behind. You have to remember that the extremists are fueled by their “religion” not politics or love of country. Any enemy that is looking forward to his own death is the most dangerous enemy imaginable.
I hope Beck is very, very wrong in the theme of Rumors of War. I don’t believe he is. In the not too distant future things are going to get worse for U.S. & the West. The radical extremists have a new and compelling battle cry.

I doubt it very much, since his writings would be far above your limited intelligence. The true test of a prophet is that what he prophesies comes true. Ezekiels and Isiah’s have and are coming true. I can’t say that every thing Beck says is going to happen does, but he’s got a pretty good track record so far. I’ve never seen Admininijahd (or whatever) mentioned in the Bible. So loud mouth,,,, what’s your prediction??

First, I cannot respond to your obsessive questions about Glenn Beck. Your question about why is Beck silent on Mahmoud could only be answered by Beck himself. How could any of us answer the question “why is he silent?” Maybe he is taking the time to find out the truth. It would be refreshing if all news media outlets took due diligence before reporting on something. This is probably not the easiest story to get to the truth on.
Second, I have not seen Rumors of WAR, so I cannot speak of that with you. However, I can speak of the Bible which I think is very relevant to our world at this time. You may be one that hates the thought of God or those that believe in a God. You may disregard the Bible as truth. I don’t know. It will be hard to discuss anything with you if this is the case. I believe that only people who have a little understanding of the Bible will be able to see what is coming. If you deny the existence of God you are probably not reading the Bible to see what it has to say about the coming of Christ. Trying to understand Glenn Beck, his rationale, and his conclusions will be impossible for you while your heart remains hard to God and his truth.
My conclusion is that Glenn sees world violence and hatred as a big indicator. There has only been one other time in history in which mankind was destroyed by God. The event was the flood back in Noah’s day. God’s reason for wiping mankind off the face of the earth?……..Wickedness, Hatred, and VIOLENCE. Being an educated man like yourself I’m sure you have listened to the evil, wicked, violent talk coming out of every corner of the world. Yes, I know that violence and hatred have existed since the beginning of time, but NOT to this degree. Communists and Socialists are calling for violence and riots in the streets. Unions encouraging hatred towards our own countrymen, drug cartels killing innocent men, women, and children, and finally, middle eastern hatred and anger towards the West. God will eventually run out of patience as he did in Noah’s day. His judgement and wrath will not be pretty. I don’t want you or anyone else to get caught up in the wrath of God. You may despise me for my beliefs and mock me for them. I hope not. I hope your heart softens, you find humility, and seek out Biblical truths because in the end the only thing that will really matter is whether you are on the side of God or you are found standing in direct opposition to Him. Just know whether you hate my beliefs and comments or not. I want you to be in heaven some day.

I do think this will have an impact on his ideas, if not on his belief in them. For one thing, there will most likely be an attempt at repercussions, vengeance maybe, against the U.S. which will increase our need to be watchful. But I also think this has taken some of the proverbial wind out of his followers sails, which means the flame will become a smolder for a while before the next flare-up of violence hits. Do I think this means, as is implied in Rumors of Wars, that the end is around the corner? Nope. There have been “wars and rumors of wars” going on for decades now, and while more and more focus is on the Middle East, an awful lot of unanticipated reactions to OBL’s death are making it really difficult to predict what will happen next, much less provide a timetable. Anyone who thinks the death of this man means everything can go back to pre-9/11 norms is dreaming, by the way. So I can no more say with assurance that Beck was wrong than I can say he was 100% right. The human-nature factor can’t be ignored here, but neither can religious fanaticism (on any side). The terrorists will probably go off and lick their wounds for a while, but not forever. So who knows? Still, it’s something worth thinking about – thank you for bringing that up.

Your burden of belief in the supernatural is a heavy one, so you do at least have my sympathy in that regard. Back to the point though. Glenn’s belief in superstition has him drawing all kinds of erroneous conslusions and is cuasing him to think in a delusional manner. When one strays from reality and believes that invisible entities are talking to them and guiding their actions, the outcome is usually not very good. Glenn’s silence on the trouble in Iran last week is curious and remains a puzzle, almost as much as why most Blazers here haven’t wondered about it themselves. Interesting.
BTW, for someone who claims to be a Christian, the animosity in the angry rant you posted is very revealing. Not very “Christian” at all, is it? Very typical of you religious believers though – Christian, Muslim, whatever. You are all very much alike it turns out.

If indeed Ahmadinejad is being co-opted by Khamenei, which is by no means certain given the opaque nature of Iranian political intrigue, then this is what? A moderating turn of events? Are we safer with Khamenei or a new Khamenei protege then with Ahmadinejad? It can be said that Ahmadinejad was the more vocal Mahdi proponent but he was just Khamenei’s mouth piece. I don’t think it affects much of anything really unless the country overthrows the lot of them, that would be significant. As for OBL, he had been relegated to “spiritual leader” status many years ago and was not operationally significant. If Al Qaeda is weak today then it was weak last week. If anything OBL transitioning from insignificant symbol to martyr for the radicals is a step up for the nut job. Are we safer, not in the least. This death is just really, really, satisfying. The issues related to the Islamic radical threat, muslim instability and the probable war they will ignite are as unsettled today as yesterday.
So, what are you but a single issue guy who trolls this website to throw grenades because he has, apparently, nothing better to do. You don’t really say anything meaningful, just throw a random grenade to start a fight. Crawl out of momma’s basement and get a life.

First, current events change absolutely NOTHING about Beck’s “prophecy.” His scenarios still stand a 99.9% chance of playing out EXACTLY as he said they would. Glenn doesn’t stray from reality and believe an invisible entity is guiding him. On the contrary, he sticks with reality, something you fail to realize, and is allowing God to guide him.
