‘The Dust Hasn’t Settled Yet’: U.N. Human Rights Office Wants a Probe into Gadhafi’s Death

Gadhadis Death May Be Investigated by U.N. Human Rights Office

GENEVA (The Blaze/AP) — The U.N. human rights office called Friday for an investigation into the death of ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, who was captured alive by rebel forces in his hometown of Sirte before shaky amateur footage showed fighters standing over his bloodied body.

“We believe there is a need for an investigation,” said Rupert Colville, a spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights. “More details are needed to ascertain whether he was killed in some form of fighting or was executed after his capture.”

“The two cell phone videos that have emerged, one of him alive, and one of him dead, taken together are very disturbing,” he told reporters in Geneva.

The Blaze reported on these videos yesterday. The clips appear to show Gadhafi both bloodied and injured just minutes before his death. Here’s one of the clips:

And here’s the other:

A Libyan official said Friday that the burial of Gadhafi has been delayed until his death can be examined by the International Criminal Court – though it was not immediately clear if he was referring to a look at the dictator’s body or a probe into what led to his death.

The U.N. Human Rights Council established an independent panel earlier this year to investigate abuses in Libya, and Colville said it would likely examine the circumstances of the 69-year-old leader’s death.

He said it was too early to say whether the panel – which includes Canadian judge Philippe Kirsch, the first president of the International Criminal Court – would recommend a formal investigation at the national or international level.

“The dust hasn’t settled yet,” Colville told The Associated Press when asked if Libya was capable of conducting an independent probe into the death.

“You can’t just chuck the law out of the window,” he added. “Killing someone outside a judicial procedure, even in countries where there is the death penalty, is outside the rule of law.”

Colville said the victims of Gadhafi’s despotic 42-year-rule deserved to see proper judicial procedures followed and perpetrators of abuses brought to trial, a process he said could be “cathartic” for the new Libya.

“Of course there are many others apart from Col. Gadhafi, so there may at least be some kind of court proceedings where we do all learn what happened and who is responsible,” he said.

Unfortunately we have created a bigger mess and a more volitile state then when Gahdafi was in control: civil war, tribal conflict, “rebels” with terrorists links in charge, Islamists wanting to take control, etc, etc. Egypt and Tunisa have not turned out so great either.

This administration and government, including the Republicans are he!! bent on creating chaos across the globe. Have you noticed not a peep from the Republicans on our combat troops in Uganda and soon to be extended mission across the African continent.

This is what “democracy” looks like administered by NATO.

No trial, no conviction, no judge, no jury. A hellfire missile from 50,000 ft, and turned over into the hands of Al Qaeda rebels to be executed on the side of the road and dragged through the street.

Another example of Obama mania. Take out Mubarak – State Dept. and Google exec. pre-planning involved in that one; take out Gadhafi – U.S. drones, piloted aircraft, foreign aircraft, NATO, which is basically American controlled, weaponry and money. Alleged spontaneous Arab Spring led and instigated – a pile of BS just like The Occupy Wall Street and it’s ancillaries. Result: more likely than not Muslim Brotherhood eventual control in both countries. The Caliphite-in-Chief, “my Muslim faith”, Mr. Muslim himself sits back with relish and glee as he accomplishes another of his fiendish objectives.

And the beat goes on. Nice job, Mr. John McCain, you spineless, limp noodled collaborator.

You are so right. NATO was complicit and should also be held accountable. I will never understand why NATO and BO started this war. There’s no way those animals would ever become reliable oil trading partners. My only thought is that they somehow want the caliphate to happen, but for what purpose?
Boehner has turned out much worse than I expected. We need to replace all the RINOs in Congress in 2012.

Obama, grinning as some of his associate idiots slap his back in congratulations, violated Executive Order 12333, which prohibits anyone representing the US to participate in assassination of heads of state. Obama should be charged and investigated by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and tried. The House should begin impeachment proceedings.

I was raised in a foreign land (The United States of America in the 50‘s and 60’s) in which the RULE OF LAW and the Glory of the U.S. Constitution were taught at all levels and “preserved, protected, and defended” by all elected representatives of the government and its citizens. I am sad at the rejoicing of the murder of an albeit nasty/evil person. It was a brutal murder that was done outside of the RULE OF LAW. A trial or some form of judicial action followed by whatever consequence the law decided would have been the American/proper thing to do. REJOICING or approving of the brutality of a mob action places our elected leaders and others who share that feeling into a box no different from that which was occupied by the object of their glee. I pray for the soul of America. I pray for us all for the consequences which will stem from the choices we have made in our plunging moral behavior. I see the results of this plunge every day in Emergency medicine.

As for comparing this to the patriot act….
Really you do not see the difference between murdering an American Citizen and the patriot act?
I do not agree with the patriot act but here is the difference.
      1. The patriot act was a bill then voted on in the house = passed, then voted on in the senate = passed then signed into LAW.
      2. Obama had his administration murder an American citizen. Did not get approval from anyone but his cronies. It was not a bill and not voted on.

The difference is I want my congressmen and senators to here from me when they vote on something i disagree with. I hope you can see the difference.

Why are we still associated with this organization? The U.N. is a travesty. The “law” is what the leaders of a particular country says it is. Dictators have been taking people out and shooting them for years and the U.N. says nothing. Frankly I think that what the U.N. is worried about is the fact that it was a dictator who was killed. Isn’t Iran now or was the head of the Human Rights commission of the U.N.? That says it all.

Am i the only person that finds this disturbing? The horrifying video not withstanding, I understand that he was a murderous villain, but this doesn’t justify more murderous actions. What is to stop these rebels from taking this same action against anyone that disagrees with their new political agenda? I feel the whole chain of events is symbolic of what’s happening in our country, the mob or pack mentality is very contagious and only ever ends in violence. The left can make any claims they want, but Saddam Hussein was at least tried by a court in his country by people who attempted to appear structured organized and backed by the law. Even if it’s only an illusion, under Bush we had trials and now under Obama we have lynchings and mob justice.

This is why the UN and our support of the “Libyan Revolution” is such a farce. We seem to have forgotten that THIS is what “Democracy” looks like. Without the “Rule of Law” by enforcing the Constitution, when the majority of the “People” want someone dead, they’re DEAD! Shooting him in the face was just the most efficient and economical means to that end. I mean, seriously: did you expect him to get a FAIR TRIAL? Don’t misunderstand me: “Mo” Gadhafi was a monster, but let’s be honest about it – what will come from this Revolution will not be a “Pro-American” modern 21st Century Republic that offers peace, tranquility and opportunity for its people and an open relationship with the rest of the world. Absolutely right! And who gives a crap what the U.N. thinks anyway. They need to be thrown out of the United States anyway. They’re useless except for stealing our money.

As for Qaddafi — he was no longer useful to the U.S. CIA and Department of State anyway. People need to wake up regarding the “corporate games” being played in North Africa and other regions of the world.

Geopolitics ain’t what it used to be. Let me be so bold as to say that the U.S. military is being used as corporate police and they’re doing the bidding of those with the money and power. Just ask troops about KBR and other businesses ripping the American people off everyday in combat zones.

A Marine Gunnery Sergeant (E-7), a friend of mine, observed brand new trucks blown up over flat tires. That’s what cost-plus contracts will do for the American taxpayer. How many of us could have used a nice “surplus” vehicle for a myriad of purposes?

We‘ve been had for a long time now and it’s time for this crap to stop. The American taxpayers have nothing else to give the big bankers and corporations. I’m telling young people to avoid the military like the plague. Our youth should not be pawns for corporations.
