‘The Man Is a Dictator’: Beck Blasts Obama’s Move to Circumvent Congress

Glenn Beck on Thursday blasted President Barack Obama’s use of executive authority to make a recess appointment, calling him a dictator who views the American people as children.

On Wednesday, Obama announced he was appointing Richard Cordray the country’s chief consumer watchdog, making a recess appointment while the Senate was technically in session. The same day, he named three members to fill vacancies on the National Labor Relations Board. Explaining his decision before a crowd in Cleveland, Ohio, Obama said he has “an obligation to act on behalf of the American people” when Congress refuses and hurts the economy as a result.

Obama had been at odds with Senate Republicans over Cordray’s appointment as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, part of new bank regulations passed in 2010. Republicans had stalled Cordray’s nomination, arguing the new agency — tasked with overseeing mortgage companies, payday lenders, and other financial companies — is too powerful and unaccountable.

“The arrogance of this man and the way he rewrites all of American history — all of American history — is astounding,” Beck said on his radio program. “Americans, hear what your president is saying: I’ll work within the system. But if they won’t move, then…I will dictate where we’re going.”

Defining a dictator as “someone who dictates what’s going to be done,” Beck said Obama meets the definition and is running the country according to his vision of what it ought to be, with no regard for the Constitution.

“He just looks at people as children,” Beck said of Obama’s aforementioned “obligation.“ ”The man is a dictator and he is building a dictatorship outside the Constitution of the United States of America.”

GOP candidates hoping to unseat the president in November also reacted to his move, with Iowa caucus winner Mitt Romney calling him a “crony capitalist” and Rick Santorum saying the Senate should sue over Obama over the decision.

“What the president did was wrong — pretty scary stuff,” Santorum said, according to The Hill.

In a statement also reported by The Hill, Ron Paul slammed Obama for his “continuous overstepping of his constitutional boundaries” and said if he “insists on behaving in such a cavalier manner…then action by Congress may become necessary to rein in his flagrant contempt for the rules.”

The Associated Press reported former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Obama showed “a total willingness to violate the law and impose an imperial presidency.”

      HELLO..!!!

Chavez and Castro have said that Obama was getting things done faster than they had. This was no joke when he took over the car companies, last I checked the government still had controlling interest in GM and Chrysler. So its no longer corporations moving production of shore but our government. GE has moved much of their production to China after they got a bailout. The government is dictating where companies can and how they do business. Shutting down power plants, not forcing them to upgrade but close their doors. Giving away! Giving away! money to their supporters under the disguise of green energy jobs by Billions of dollars.

      HELLO…..!!!

We would be better off with 4 more years of Obama then an unknown Republican who could do worse damage like Paul or Romney. After Obama leaves then hopefully a real Republican or somebody for the Republic shows up, wins and fixes the problems that the country has.

When this site first started I warned that in 2012 Obama would invoke the Patriot Act and other measures through Executive Order and declare a Constitutional Dictatorship. Glad to see that Beck is finally listening and coming around to what’s going on. But to be completely honest, if some freak of scam failed and Obama DIDN’T get to remain in office and the American people elect Romney, and especially Gingrich, the program to take America apart would go forward with just minimal slowdown. Santorum is rapidly kneeling to the progressive gods of idiocy and doesn’t possess the intellect, courage, or principles to do a damned thing about it.

This is what we get America and it’s exactly what progressivism has purchased at OUR expense. Obama 1, 2, or 3, and the mental midget Santorum who is Minnie Obama in drag.

Actually the bill in question, the one creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was passed by the House, passed by the Senate and signed by the President. That’s the way our Constitution works. That is now the law of the land.

But the Republicans, despite the fact that the creation of this agency was passed, legally and in accordance with the Constitution, are using a parlimentary procedure to block the President’s obligation, under the Constitution, to enact the law. They are using their “advice and consent” roll to block confirmation on the nominee, which even Boehner states he doesn’t have a problem with.

He and the Republicans just don’t like this law, a law passed in accordance with the Constitution of the United States of America. So they have refused to allow this law to go into effect by blocking a nominee that they agree is competent. They are using their “advice and consent” role to try to change existing law.

That’s bologne. Who is abusing the legal system?

Considering that Washington invaded Canada and Jefferson sent the navy after the Barbary Pirates, it is a bit rich to compare their foreign policy with Ron Paul’s, don’t you think? If you want to out someone for being a cherry picker, first you should learn to spell “Constitution” before you try to determine it’s dictates.

As far as Jefferson goes, he sent his fleet of Presidential defense ships after them pirates after diplomatic attempts and failure of FRANCE (surprise surprise) to defend the Mediterranean shipping lanes from the pirates capturing and ransoming American commerce vessels and crews. From 1784 to 1804. Ron Paul would protect our RIGHT to free trade just the same way that Thomas Jefferson did, it’s a staple to his 30 year mantra.

And, Washington attacked the BRITISH in Canada, not the ‘Canadians’ that we know and love today.

No, you are wrong. Congress added one line to the Bill that was passed that says that the CFPB can not start until the Senate appoints the person to run it. This was the only way the Bill could be passed. This is why Congress has been in technical Session. That Bill would never have passed without that one sentence. So, Obama making a recess apointment defies what the Bill says.

Maybe you could ask anyone from russia what it is like, Im sure they can tell you all about it. If you resist you are labeled and dealt with, in short order. You will not be able to own property, if you do you will be extremely restricted by use regulations and controls. You will not be able to bear arms. You will not even be able to decide where you want to live. Those decisions will be made by your freindly agenda 21, WHO/NWO representative. WAKE UP!!!

In any of these cases, these candidates will not stop or even stand up to the U.N., The FED, or the CFR. They will bow to the kingmakers like survants to their masters. Utter nonsense! If 0bama is re-elected for another term there will be no America with problems for someone to fix.

If you regard the Constitution as law, this is lawless behavior by an out-of-control, rogue executive. This is what happens in banana republics’ tinhorn dictatorships. In places like Venezuela and Cuba this is what happens — all under the guise of populism and helping the middle class.

0bama is building a shadow government that will take over running the country when he disolves Congress and declares martial law!

Resistance will be futile given the power he has under the NDAA, National Defense Authorization Act, to incarcerate anyone and hold them for an indefinitie time. The NDAA of 2012 is arguably the most repressive and right-wing pieces of legislation ever passed in the history of the country. It allows the military, a.k.a. the Pentagon, to determine who is a “terrorist” and to detain that person in prison, indefinitely, without trial, under its jurisdiction. It makes no difference whether the person is a U.S. citizen or a foreign “enemy combatant.”

it doesn’t take a great intellect to connect the dots and see where 0bama is taking us…AND HE IS BEING ALLOWED TO DO IT!! This is scary stuff folks.

You guys are screaming about the wrong thing here. Even if the Senate WAS in recess he couldn‘t appoint the guy because the absence didn’t occur DURING the recess! Here: what The Federalist Papers say about “recess” appointments. In Federalist No. 67 (next to last para) Hamilton is very clear that Article II, Sec. 2, last clause, means what it says:

…The ordinary power of appointment is confined to the President and Senate JOINTLY, and can therefore only be exercised during the session of the Senate; but as it would have been improper to oblige this body to be continually in session for the appointment of officers and as vacancies might happen IN THEIR RECESS, which it might be necessary for the public service to fill without delay, the succeeding clause is evidently intended to authorize the President, SINGLY, to make temporary appointments “during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.”… [caps are Hamilton’s]

Do you see? Article II, Sec. 2, last clause, means exactly what it says. Before this clause even kicks in, the vacancy must have happened while the Senate was in “recess”.

Miami, no need to the gratuitous insults. They don’t help your argument.

Passing a bill with 51 votes violates Senate rules? What rule? In fact the Founders, anticipating tied votes in the Senate, gave the Vice President a tie breaking vote (although that wasn’t used here). That’s not “jamming down your throat” that called “majority rule.” Perhaps you’d like to share just how many votes you think it takes to pass a bill in the Senate? 60? 99? Sorry, it’s 51.

MONK – no the bill doesn’t say the Senate will appoint the head of the CFPB. Now you’re just making stuff up.

Stealing from those who work hard to earn in order to line your pockets first and then throw crumbs to those you intend to oppress and turn into dependents is MARXISM!!!!! Look it up; there‘s no ’socialist’ in b. hussein o., but there’s plenty of MARXISM!!!

You are exactly right. He is trying to get people into powerful places like these agencies he is creating and then will use them to either bribe or punish anyone who doesn’t go along with our new Dictator.

I have been writing to Glenn, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly for a year now that Obama was making Congress obsolete. He doesn’t need them anymore. With all of these agencies reporting directly to the President they can do what FDR did. He tried to bribe the state caucases to vote for him by spending ‘new deal’ money he had control over in their state and if he couldn’t bribe them he sicked the IRS on them and made their life hell, even causing some to resign. Obama’s tactics are much the same. Axlerod is a master at smearing people with just enough truth in his lies to put doubt into peoples minds. They did this with Hermain Cain. They started with a truth that Cain had been charged with sexual harrassment. Then they got women to come up with other claims that can’t be proved or disproved. Look for Obama to smear the Conservative candidate with allegations that put doubt into the minds of the people that hold a tiny bit of truth and 99 percent pur lies.

Why DR. Ron Paul is our best bet to beat Obama (more so than Romney)

We are ALWAYS told that elections are determined by the “independents and moderate”.. Well guess who wins those voters?

CNN did exit polling in Iowa and found the following (google cnn exit polls Iowa for more info)

      • Ron Paul won the Independent vote by more than 2:1 (43% to 19%) over Romney
      • Ron Paul won the Moderate vote by (40% to 35%) over Romney
      • Ron Paul won the first time voters by (33% to 17%) over Romney
      • For voters who want a “True Conservative” (37% to 1%) over Romney
      • Paul and Romney tied (26% each) for the urban vote – typically strong democratic vote.

Dont let the Media fool you that Romney is the only one who can beat Obama by “winning the Middle”

      Vote Ron Paul for Liberty

“HOW FAR WILL THE NEXT PRESIDENT GO IF ALLOW OBAMA TO GET AWAY WITH HIS ACTIONS…“ and if he gets a second term think of how far he would continue”

It seems that his activity and ‘testing’ are designed to see what he can get away with now…..an abuser that crosses boundaries without consequences just goes a little further next time…and in short order with no workable way to stop them the abuser is seen as omni-potent…..so the abuse continues and the victims give up and give away their power in dispair and hopelessness….in most cases the obvious answer is to just stand and leave…or kick them out…

We are being mentally abused by the threat and actions of a single person of influence and control over our lives, threatening our safety, threatening our freedom, threatening our system of government.

It is ironic that those that respect the Constitution have no remedy for those that don’t – president or otherwise.

Obama has taken on and apparently defeated the will of the congress and/or military to defend us. he is gathering power as we lose ours.

We are only a few days into 2012 and this non stop assault on our nation will continue….

the abuser will not want to leave the house….manipulation, guilt, and boundary erosion will continue until someone draws a line and means it…or until all of Obama’s dreams of his father are accomplished.

It is amazingly sad to think of all the blood, pain, wars and countless lives lost fighting

The two Democrats that President Barack Obama appointed to the National Labor Relations Board during what he considered a congressional “recess” are not on the White House’s official list of Obama’s appointments and nominations for various positions.

Obama referred his two Democratic nominees, Sharon Block and Richard Griffin, to the Senate on Dec. 15. The Senate adjourned for the year – but did not go into an official recess — on the following day!!!!!!

Every other president, every single one, has previously used recess appointments when the Senate was in recess. This time, the Senate was not in recess. That makes these appointments illegal. As a (putative) Marine, you should know that you can’t pick and choose which laws apply to you. Neither can the President.

The oath of service has “support and defend the Constitution” before “obey the orders of the President” for a reason. The Founders understood that even Presidents can break the law. You are forbidden by the UCMJ to obey illegal orders, because it was understood that eventually someone in authority would issue illegal orders.

Nazi guards were hung for crimes against humanity after WWII because it was determined that “following orders” was NOT a valid defense.

Unlike you, I would not like it if Obama made these appointments legally but I would not moan & cry about it if they were made according to the Constitution. That is the difference between you & I, I believe in the Constitution & you seem to think that Obama can bend the law anyway he wants. Jarhead (don’t worry, i’m married to one!) First off, Presidents CAN make recess appointments Constitutionally, IF they meet two simple criteria: 1) the vacancy MUST have occurred DURING the recess and 2) There is a public NEED for that vacancy to be filled. Other than that, it doesn’t matter who the President is, if the vacancy doesn’t meet those two criteria, the President must wait until session is back in. OH YEAH and the appointment will only last until the end of the next session.

Maybe the courts will decide rather the Senate was in recess, but the Republicans will likely lose if they challenge this.

“In a 1905 report that the Senate still considers authoritative, the Senate Judiciary Committee recognized that a ‘Recess of the Senate’ occurs whenever the Senate is not sitting for the discharge of its functions and when it cannot ‘participate as a body in making appointments.‘ The committee cautioned that a ’recess‘ means ’something actual, not something fictitious.’ In 1921, citing opinions of his predecessors dating back to the Monroe administration, Attorney General Harry M. Daugherty argued that the question ‘is whether in a practical sense the Senate is in session so that its advice and consent can be obtained. To give the word ‘recess’ a technical and not a practical construction, is to disregard substance for form.’ The Senate, of course, does not meet as a body during a pro forma session. By the terms of the recess order, no business can be conducted, and the Senate is not capable of acting on the president’s nominations. That means the Senate remains in “recess” for purposes of the recess appointment power, despite the empty formalities of the individual senators who wield the gavel in pro forma sessions.”

Instead of them herding those who need reeducation into FEMA camps perhaps we should find some islands in the Pacific where they can spend their days.? Midway would be great along with several other corral atolls like the Bimini group to place these “socialist pigs”. We could airdrop them food but nothing else and they could work out their hierarchy and social structure to their own desires and leave the rest of us alone. My guess is that if we relocated about 500,000 people the remaining Marxists would get a clue and reeducated themselves. Just a pipe dream I guess, but just maybe…

Smiles wryly, yea, one has to wonder just exactly is keeping them from doing so? Time and time again since His Royalness Obama has assumed the throne they’ve ( conservative representatives) had opportunity to step up and do what’s right according to the constitution, yet they have proven themselves wholly incapable to doing what’s right.
My comment is not an exoneration of any member in congress, but I once held the conservatives to a higher standard, one they have joined in utterly failing with the obviously unAmerican representatives whom we know to be already morally bankrupt.
Perhaps this is why, after nearly a decade of closely observing and investigating politicians and their links to globalist elite corporatism ( visa vie the CFR), I’m suffering malaise. For I’ve seen the hand write upon the wall.
      Mene, Mene, Terkel, Adoni.

It’s already over, they just want to “peaceably” round up as many as they can when they do declare martial law.
Say for some reason that some of escape the initial round up, how do deer rifles compare to night vision, and full auto? How do we escape the satellites , the cameras on every corner, the drones? Either GOD almightily makes the worlds electric systems utterly cease to work, or our freedoms are toast. Why the worlds, because what enemy of ours won’t invade us if our systems fail, then we are toast yet again.
But what the Globalists fail to take into account is the consuming power of America, at nearly 70% of the worlds purchases, Americas failure, or tyranny shall be the death knell of the global economy, and the entire world will never recover. The globalist know this, but fail to adequately measure the effect that they themselves shall endure. For when the globe is willfully thrown into abject poverty, even 1000 security guards won’t keep the elite safe forever.

G.I.T….did Bush make any “recess” appointments when congress was not actually in recess? Let me help you champ..the answer is no. In fact,in 2007 Obama himself was part of Harry Reid’s “pro forma’ session of congress that the democrats set up to prevent Bush making any recess appointments. But hold on a second G.I.M.P. Obama’s own legal counsel in 2010 stated that congress should be in recess for at least 3 days before a president can make any recess appointments. What’s it like G.I.M.P? What’s it like being a blind lefty tool where you ignore reality all for the love of your socialist “struggle”? I ask because I can’t understand why you flatulate your “Bush signed executive orders” when this isn‘t about an executive order it’s about recess appointments and the ignoring of precendents. Oh and speaking of “executive orders”…Obama bashed Bush for making “signing statements” and “ignoring the will of Congress”. But Obama’s done the same thing 20 times since taking office. Obama’s most recent signing statement came on New Year’s Eve, when he signed a 13-paragraph memorandum declaring he did not intend to follow several sections of the National Defense Authorization Act that funded the military for 2012.

I had perused a couple opinions on “the other side” of this argument. One of the theories being passed around is that this move was to fight the “pro-forma” sessions – basically sessions of Congress that do nothing but show that they’re technically still in session, thus blocking recess appointments.

I’m not too keen on legislators using a loophole to prevent an appointment while the body is in recess, be it their guy or our guy. I *do* know that the left would be foaming at the mouth if a republican did this though.

Barack Obama was happily part of the Senate in 2007 when Harry Reid was doing the same “pro forma” sessions to block Bush from making recess appointments. To add insult to Obama’s urinating all over the constitution…in 2010 Obama’s own legal counsel asserted that at least three days of recess should take place before any appointment should take place. Where’s the media on this? Hands in their pockets, whistling and hoping that no one remembers. Obama’s own sock puppet Jay Carney cannot even demonstrate that the court was in recess. You completely misunderstand the stance Ron Paul has on this. If we sanction Iran that is act of war and must be voted on by the congress. Congress will send our troops to war with a purpose, plan, and time table. By doing this you actually have a say, you can call your congressman and say yes or no. In turn if you do not like his choice on the war decision you can run for office or work to get someone else elected. Either way its the way the Constitution intended it to be. Glenn supports canidates that will not go to Congress with this decision. They cannot go to Congress with it.

Rush Limbaugh: “I Hope Perry Stays In”

“I hope he stays in.” said Rush Limbaugh today on his radio show, after acknowledging that there was some confusion about whether Rick Perry had decided to stay in the race for president or not.

“Does he have a high enough base here to pull off what now would be a miracle?” asked Limbaugh, “I hope he stays in.”

      From Rush Limbaugh’s website:

There was a tweet, you know, Perry last night said he’s gonna head back to Texas for prayer and reflection to figure out what he should do next. ‘Cause he spent a lot of money in Iowa, and it didn’t translate to votes. And the theory is that, you know, money didn’t translate to votes in Iowa, then it may not translate to votes anywhere else. And is it worth going into debt? Does he have a high enough base here to pull off what now would be a miracle? I hope he stays in. ‘Cause I told you I like Perry, and I like Santorum, and I told you countless times I know either one of those guys — and I said this about Bachmann as well — if any of them are elected president, I have no doubt whatsoever they are gonna be fighting for this country each and every day, no doubt whatsoever. I’m thinking before the 2012 elections, he’ll find a reason to declare Martial Law so as to post pone the election indefinitely and stay in power..

Obama is following Hitler’s playbook, so I don’t see this ending well. The only advantage we have over pre-war Germany, is the fact that here, the public is armed. Civil war anyone?

Bet on it–a dictator doesn’t need excuses either. He’ll use the Black Panthers as his storm troopers and the union thugs will clean up.

I used to agree with you. Obummer will create some emergency, declare Martial Law, and ‘postpone’ elections, thus creating a dictatorship. All for our own good of course. Lately I am of the opinion that so few of the citizens of this once great country even care how Obummer is dismantling the constitution and the freedoms it protects, that he may just feel free to declare his emperorship and be done with it, sans emergency, sans elections. What options does that leave us?

Even if he would do a thing like that, which he wouldn’t, he doesn’t have to. He’s going to win the election fair and square and be president for four more years, and after those four years, despite all the crazy predictions of all the people who hate and fear him, it will still be pretty much the same country it’s been for all of our lifetimes.

kentuckypatriot: We should not call for impeachment. That would just be a slap on the wrist. We should call for a trial to try him and his progressive/communist/socialist/marxist cohorts with treason or sedition. That would impose a more just punishment for these arrogant rabid usurpers.

@Mary — that is what impeachment does. Impeachment is similar to the Grand Jury that indicts criminals. Fm impeachment, the trail goes to the Senate. The Senate can strip him of his Presidency and remand him to further court action.

The Constitution does not have a provision for court action w/o impeachment and conviction in the House and Senate, respectively.
