The ‘New Gestapo’? Maine Gov. Blasts Massive Expansion of IRS Agents

Maine Governor Paul LePage Calls IRS the New Gestapo on Radio

(Photo: AP via Politico)

Governor Paul LePage of Maine is making news for allegedly referring to the IRS as the “new Gestapo” Saturday, after blasting the president’s overhaul of our health care system.

He reportedly said:

This tax will add to the $500 billion in tax increases that are already in Obamacare. Now that Congress can use the taxation power of the federal government to compel behavior or lack thereof, what’s next? More taxes if we don’t drive Toyota Priuses or if we eat too much junk food or maybe even pea soup?

This decision has made America less free. ‘We The People’ have been told there is no choice. You must buy health insurance or pay the new Gestapo – the I.R.S.

Even more disheartening is that reviving the American dream just became nearly impossible to do. We are now a nation in which supports dependency rather than independence. Instead of encouraging self-reliance we are encouraging people to rely on the government.  [Emphasis added].

Listen to the entire radio clip here, via Dirigo Blue.

LePage has a history of making inflammatory remarks, saying the NAACP could “kiss his butt” in 2011, and that Barack Obama could “go to hell” in 2010.  At Maine’s GOP convention in 2012 he told the unemployed to “get off the couch and get yourself a job,” to a standing ovation from the crowd.

Watch the NAACP comment, below:

Maine’s Democratic Party Chairman Ben Grant demanded a full apology for the remarks, saying:

“We’ve come to expect a bunch of nonsense from Gov. LePage, but this is a step too far. There appears now to be no limit to the extreme language he will use to misinform, degrade and insult people. Somebody needs to explain to him that he’s the governor of a state, and not a talk radio host.”

According to the House Ways and Means Committee, the IRS will be adding 16,500 new auditors, agents, and other employees to “investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans.”

But is a “Gestapo” comparison taking it too far?

If the Ayatollah Obama is re-elected, look for the following to take place: A “rent” will be collected from those who already own their homes equal to a sum that they may have been paying AS IF THEY HAD NOT PAID OFF THEIR HOME.

Read all about a tax revolt at trendsresearch.com. Gerald Celente has been forecasting this possible phenomenon for years and the time may be closer than you think.

as i see it, the Gestapo and Barack have a lot in common. they force people to do things they don’t want to do. they promise to come in and bring prosperity and hope to a ravaged nation, only to destroy it and flush it down the toilet, and they are masters at the propaganda campaign. lots of parallels. like a friend of mine always says, “if it‘s the truth it’s not mean.”

It’s a tax, no it’s not…if it is NOT a tax then why is the IRS in charge of collecting the revenue? The Constitution gives the power to levy taxes to the House, why is no one questioning the law‘s legallity for the law which originated in the Senate behind the large oaken locked doors of Dreamworks Harry’s office?
@YOUGOTTABEKIDDING: In Massachusetts, this home sale tax already exists. When you sell your home, before you get the proceeds, the government reduces the amount you get so you can buy the home sales stamps. You pay $4.56/thousand on the sale. Isn‘t it ironic that the state where they revolted against King George’s Stamp Act, they impose a stamp tax for selling something you own and have paid taxes on each year since the purchase?
You pay taxes and this regime wants you to pay more as part of your “fair share.“ Would love one of the ”fair share“ crowd to explain what is the ”fair share” for the 47/48% who pay no taxes?

I agree, and it would probably be called a “National property tax,” just like the ones on the local level throughout the country, which means if it isn’t paid the homowner will be evicted from his own home, and, if he refuses to leave, armed agents wearing ski masks will come out and kill him and/or his family. Thank you John Roberts for making this possible.

And THAT tax is surely a rent. Right now we’re required to pay the local Gestapos “rent” for living on our own properties. Taking it up to the national level would add insult to injury.

“Read all about a tax revolt at trendsresearch.com. Gerald Celente has been forecasting this possible phenomenon for years and the time may be closer than you think.”

RGFROMTEXAS, There was nothing incoherent about his comment. I would suggest not being obtuse and try thinking rationally about it. Why should I as Joe Taxpayer pay for services for other people that A) are here illegally (read illegal – not legal, against the law, wrong, illegitimate, etc.) or B) refuse to get up and do for themselves. As his comment was alluding to, if you are so hell bent on “helping others” (the merits of such could be argued, as paying for others who can do for themselves or know they are breaking the law does NOTHING to help them in the long run) then YOU go ahead and pay for their services required and stop dictating to others that they have to. 1% of people will have to pay a $95 fine if they don’t get health insurance and can afford it.

Comparing that to the Gestapo is retarded.

If Reagan didn’t mandate hospitals treat everyone in their ER, we wouldn’t have this problem of needing to make up the loss freeloaders take from hospitals and health insurance.

There is a free market way of strongly encouraging people to be properly insured. Just make it very hard to claim bankruptcy for medical bills if you have no insurance. Then the freeloader that loses his gamble would be paying for a long time to cover his bills. A few instances of that and anyone who has assets or has or wants a job would be lining up to get insurance.

@Verceofreason Health care hasn’t been a truly free market for a long time. Employer paid health care has made people think health care should be free (paid for by someone else). The result is escalating costs since people haven’t had to pay much towards their own care. The best solution is to move the costs towards the individual and cause people to make their own medical purchasing judgements like we judge other purchases. Much of the administrative costs of the current system would be saved if people paid their own incidental medical bills and used insurance to pay for only the big-ticket items like surgery.

If you think there won’t be paperwork costs in a single payer system you are nuts. Look at the bureaucracy involved with Obamacare and that is far from a single payer system.

Ignoring DOMA, ignoring immigration and drug laws, stretching the Constitution to match his ego, using shady legislative maneuvers to pass Obamacare the VAST majority of Americans despised? No new taxes if I make less than $250k, really? What might we become as a nation under the second term of Obama. Do you know? Are you sure? How do you look in jackboots, my friend?

The government allowed the insurance co’s and the lawyers to rape the health care profession . The real solutions lie in getting the government out of health care…Tort reform and limits on liability can correct other problems, health care can be affordable ,when are dollars no longer go to lawyers or insurance co’s…

Time to look forward and stop pointing fingers at ghosts in order to deflect attention to the emergency in front of us. In a crisis, you don’t point fingers, the time for that is the After Action Review. Otherwise you sound as ridiculous as those actors in the post disaster shows (pick one) that argue endlessly while under fire.. Deal with this from a matter of status. Obama is fundamentally changing the USA alright, he is putting the finishing touches ON OUR CHAINS. Chains that we will likely not break without significant conflict. Imagine a thousand Wacos and Ruby Ridges all across this country as the new and improved local paramailitary swat assists the IRS with confiscating your property and KILLING you if you resist, just because you can stand another tax.

Exactly who are the 3-million people (1%) they claim can afford insurance but don’t buy it? I‘d be willing to bet that the majority of people who currently don’t have health insurance don‘t have it because they CAN’T afford it. Furthermore, when did the Federal Government become so intimately involved in my finances to know whether I can or cannot afford insurance?

Meddlesome Reid, Pelosi and Obama have now increased the taxes of those people who are struggling financially and can’t afford insurance. Aren’t they terrific? They care sooooo much about the middle class and less fortunate – don’t they? (sigh)

Cykonis; Most of our government isn’t constitutional and should be eliminated. Our military budget will have to be scaled back, federal welfare programs dismantled and the social security ponsi scheme stopped so future generations can live free. Existing social security recipients, and those fifty and over, are stuck with this stupid system.
The accurate number is 45% of all government spending must cease. But in order to retire the debt, 50% is more practical.
Only this will never happen because there is absolutely no political will for it to happen! They are about to throw us a long, miserable party, and you had better be prepared for it, because America’s population is about to falter in a very bad way!

OF COURSE it’s the new GESTAPO! Add that to Obama’s Black Panther type “CIVILIAN ARMY” already trained, uniformed … ANYONE ABLE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THEM in recent months? Only when O first contaminated the WH, then nothing…guess they went underground too.
The fact that our WEAK CONGRESS has allowed this SOB to shove this MARXIST HC system down our throats and made the non-sanctioned IRS the BILL CHASERS is nauseating.

SAY, HOT SHOT LIAR IN THE WHITE HOUSE: IF this “tax” or (now you call it Penalty) only effects 1% of the Adults in USA…let‘s say that’s somewhere between 1.8 Million down to 1 M adults that this new ARMY of IRS will go after for fines (uh, taxes, no penalties) that’s about 1000 people per
Agent to chase down and threaten. OH, I forgot all the UNIONS and BUDDIES/CRONIES and POLITICAL HACKS that have been given “WAIVERS”…
VOTE. WORK ON GETTING THE VOTE OUT. WE can’t allow IRS guys, who have every bit of our personal information to be able to threaten the American people like this!!!!! THAT B-Tard in the WH
Says it’s not fair for 15% of the people to be uninsured…let’s see: 12M are illegals (or more); 25M are young adults; 5 million really need health care. The rest would rather have a new flat screen than buy insurance. The solution is so simple: Make everyone who comes into the ER room sign a note if they can’t pay and get something every week/month from them. Pay the insurance for those “uninsurables/th

You were probably thinking of the Brownshirts, the SA, which was the Leaders (der fueher) origional body guard and bully boys.
Yes, get out the vote. Yes, vote to change things. But don’t be surprised when nothing changes, because it won’t!
Oh, they’ll make noises, like Paul Ryans repairing the budget plan in ten or twenty years, but the truth is that they know we don’t have that long. Heck, they have been kicking the can down the road for so long that the darn thing just bounces back at them faster and faster.
The cure is “simple” cut 50% of government, across the board. Remove all the bad law that the progressives have written during the past century and substitiute real law based on the Constitution.
And you expect the progressive D‘s and R’s to do this? Really!

      @HISTORYGUY48

Great to see someone who has their eyes wide open. I can’t find any reason to be excited about either established party, and haven’t been able to for my entire voting life.

The only part I disagree with is the 50% across the board cut. I think cuts have to be done in a way that realigns us with the Constitution. For example, the Dept. of Ed. should be cut 100% with all of the overcollected taxes flowing back to the people and the States. The states and communities and people could then take care of education in their area. Education isn’t an enumerated power of the Federal Government.

Continuing the example I don’t think we want to cut our defense budget by 50%, and national defense is an enumerated power of the Federal Government. I’m not sure what the right number is for reducing the defense budget but I think 1/2 is a bit high.

But, again, I’m 100% in agreement with your overall points. Neither the R‘s or the D’s have enough guts or belief in our Constitution to do what is needed. Peace.
