The New York Times Introduces You to the Real S.E. Cupp

The New York Times has a regular Sunday column that introduces you to stars and newsmakers and their Sunday routines. We’ve brought you their interview with Al Sharpton before.
So I’m not sure if S.E. Cupp feels honored or slightly conflicted that this Sunday it was her turn to get the New York Times treatment. Her Sunday routine appeared under the headline, “Stock Cars and Chicken Wings.” Anyone who has ever seen her show on Glennbeck.com knows that is appropriate.
Get to know S.E. below:
S. E. Cupp (she dumped the “Sarah Elizabeth” 10 years ago for a gender-free byline) is a conservative commentator, columnist and author whose second book, “Losing Our Religion: The Liberal Media’s Attack on Christianity,” was released last month in paperback. Ms. Cupp, a professed atheist with a master’s degree in religious studies from New York University, writes an online column for The Daily News and hosts a program on Glenn Beck’s Mercury Radio Arts. She is 32 and lives in the financial district. Her three Sunday essentials are Nascar, Buffalo wings and Bravo.
D.I.Y. DAY Sunday is the only day where I can kind of do my own thing and not have it dictated by the news cycle. I wake up around 8:30, later than normal. I usually sleep in an old Mets T-shirt; I save my Tony Stewart Nascar regalia for later when I’m watching the races.
PRAYER SUBSTITUTE I never thought about it, but as an atheist, maybe Nascar is my church?
COFFEE, CHILLED I stumble over to Leo’s Bagels, kind of the only place you can get bagels and a vat of coffee on a Sunday morning in my neighborhood. Even in the winter I order iced coffee, because I can drink it faster. If I could inject it, I probably would. I get a multigrain bagel with scallion cream cheese, untoasted. Toasting takes too long.
THE PUNDITS I head back to my apartment to catch the Sunday talk shows. I scribble down some notes, yell at a couple of pundits from the comfort of my couch, marvel at David Gregory’s phenomenal coif, and send out a perfunctory tweet or two. I read through the Sunday papers, skim the Web headlines and sketch out some ideas for next week’s columns. By this time it’s noon, my workday is over, and I’m tempted to go back to sleep.
Read the rest here.

I have a lot of respect for SE Cupp despite her religious beliefs. She doe not hide behind false premises and we know exactly where she stands. Posted on May 1, 2011 at 10:13amI’m a Christian, but respect atheists as I’m commanded to forgive them.
I’m a bit puzzled as to the comments referring to S.E. Cupp appearing on Glenn’s show as being nearly heretical and a cause to discontinue visiting this website and possibly even turn to Savage or (pfft?!) Alex Jones.
Glenn has POLITICAL COMMENTARY television and radio shows. While he makes his PERSONAL faith a regular staple and bases many of his opinions on his Christian foundations, he has never purported to be preaching his religion nor has he rejected the viewpoints of other Christian churches or religions. In fact, I’ve seen him regularly invite leaders from other faiths on to discuss issues of the day.
I think Stossel’s an atheist, and he’s on all the time with some great points.
Perhaps you’ve confused the “secular humanism” that drives so much Progressive policy with atheism.
I guess I‘m just not sure why you’re here if you’re seeking a Christian forum.
I for one would allow SE Cupp AND John Stossel to crash at my place and eat my food before I agreed to even sit down and speak with Michael Savage or Alex Jones,

The way he talks about faith is totally out of step with the LDS church.(I know cause I am a member since 2001). He can’t be a born again cause most main line churches think LDS church is a non-christian cult. Then to bring a possible non-believer (if true) such as ms.Cupp is some what at a loss of understanding on my part. What is going on here. talk about Faith, but with atheist in you personal ranks.Have a top slot TV show and walking away in the middle of the most important election in the nation for 150 years(his words). To do live stage shows. To run from NYC to the safety of Texas, when the fight is here. Some thing is not right. Maybe Alex Jone and Mike savage are looking a little more right then I want to give them credit for. I have been on this blog since it started. I been on Glen site for 3yrs. I have seen something happen here. I dont know what. We are told to watch the other hand. well lets do that now with Him first. Maybe I am wrong, I pray I am, however. I am a born again believer, and would hope Ms. Cupp comes to know my Lord and Savior. And I have questions about how Glenn can be a member of LDS and say the things he says about faith.
But scripture says no man can call Jesus “Lord” except by The Holy Spirit, so I will accept Glenn as a brother.
And as for Ms. Cupps’s lack of belief while earning degrees in religious studies…She has been exposed to the truth. If she decides to refuse to accept it then she will have to face the consequences. But her politics is what she is preaching on Beck’s outlet. And in that regaurd I have no problem with her.

Maybe a less cynical review of her “Religious Studies” notes (undoubtedly taught without faith or emotional investment in anything but disdain) might uncover some threads of commonality that could reveal an underlying Truth and God connecting all things. As Shakespeare wrote “A rose by any other name doth smell as sweet”.
NASCAR and cold coffee seem like a fairly empty substitute.

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 10:09amWhile I may not agree with everything S.E. stands for, I respect her choices as her own. I appreciate her candor and her enthusiasm for life and we share many interests, although religion is not one. She is the perfect example that we can agree to disagree, and wakes up happy to face the day, instead of having a chip on her shoulder and anger in her heart. That is a lesson the left would be smart to learn.

Morning, hope all is good today for you and the kitties; I agree with your posting, she may have ideas and beliefs different from mine, yet she sticks to them, and that can be respected in anyone even while disagreeing.

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 10:52amThis is another blunder by the Beck Group. First we are not to embrace religion, we are to be disciples, followers, of Jesus alone. Not only that we are not to be unequally yoked. This goes for a marriage as well as a business, especially when he keeps referring to God, Jesus and the Bible.
What kind of mixed messages are these. This seems to be getting more liberal by the minute. If a liberal rag like the NYT features a member this group without attacking that person it should send flags up everywhere.

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 11:18amSNOW, all is good here as I hope it is there, as well. Going to be a hot one today, not a cloud in the sky. It has been beautiful these past two mornings with that cold front coming thru. I just wish it could arrive and not leave devastation in its wake. Such a tragedy. Have a good day and, as always, thanks and God bless.

Wow sounds RACIST to me .. what do they have against WHITE PEOPLE! Can you imagine if it were a black person and it was Basketball and Watermelon …. I heard the left going after Trump again this morning for the mention of Obama and Basketball ,,,, not that he doesn’t like to play it but that someone would dare say it!

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 11:59amI pray you find Jesus Christ soon, S.E. I love ya for who you are, but I feel you do not know your own true self. I can accept you for who and what you are, no problems, but judgement day is a comin’ soon! I will pray hard for you to see the light of God, who shines dimly in you, I would like to see you shine brightly, again. Alas, you have your own choices to make in life, I judge you not.
God Bless you and America.

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 7:39pmShe’s a cool girl with a good brain. Don’t agree with her on the God thing, but so what. As Glen has said, some of his best friends are atheists. It’s about personal responsibility. Many of us find this through God, but not everyone. I hope she does find God at some point, but that is not a prerequisite for being a responsible, intelligent person. Keep up the good work SC!

Posted on May 1, 2011 at 11:07pmOne of the problems with atheists who are liberal is that they are NOT atheists. They believe in the liberal dogma that comes off as a code of morality. Most of us know that political correctness, multiculturalism, and social justice are crock. And of course it is a sin to not want to pay more and more taxes to the government. They act as if they have the last word on morality…which is something that annoys me in other kinds of believers too.
Report Post »To believe is to accept as truth or certainty things that have not been proven. Everything that most liberals want to do has been proven NOT to work. But they still use the old moral superiority schtick to try to convince us.

Posted on May 2, 2011 at 1:06amNo surprise that the Times put her in an unfavorable light. I’m sure there were other comments from her that they could have used. Instead they were sure to put in the atheist statement, so that it would hopefully generate negativity from anyone who believes in God…..at last count, that is the vast majority of Americans.
Well, too bad, Times. You will find that most Americans are tolerant of others when it comes to religion (or non-religion in Cupp’s case). It is mostly Muslims who seem to have trouble with tolerance towards us ‘infidels’.
