America’s most watched professional sport currently stands frozen in midst of an ugly labor dispute between players and team owners. A major argument between sides has been on how the NFL will take care of their retired players, especially since the average NFL career lasts only six years. This video from The Daily takes a look at the training for players in their post-playing career; the NFL’s Broadcast Bootcamp.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 6:25pmDidn‘t all these brogham’s get free rides to college and half of them majored supposedly in physical education and broadcasting!!!! Go check it out.. what a joke, it shows they get “Affirmative Action planned” through college, didn’t learn a thing….then go to make hundreds of millions on the job playing a kids game and they want their what they‘ve called ’slaveowners‘ to pay their ’communication education” dogg?!!
This alone along with their pathetic “in your face America” greed makes me likely to turn off the NFL forever once and for all just like I did MLB and the NBoA long long ago.
Hockey’s the only non ghetto sports bastion left.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 5:50pmIf the NFL gives in to these retirement demands it is the end of the game. These players are ridiculous in their demands and those advocating for these retirement benefits need to go get a job in the real world.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 5:36pmJust amazing, all the sports media and all those a HOLES on espn, say , they have a right to play if they want to skip collage, they should sign now and make the money while they can, who needs collage, OK,, BUT when the illiterate athlete cant do any thing else after his career is over , ( We all remember the Patrick Ewing Interview in collage) now they want to be taken care of,, just amazing welfare even for those selfish, a holes who make millions of dollars, what a joke we have become as a country. What happened to the real athletes who played for the love of the game and had real jobs in the off season to make ends meet, where are all the Jerry Rices, Roger Staubach, Bob Lillys, Hank Aarons, Jerry Wests of the world.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 4:30pmWon’t work. First they will have to teach them to read, then speak standard English, not Ebonics. On the other hand, why should they have someone pay for their retirement? They make millions, or at least hundreds of thousands) so why do their employers need to fund a retirement?

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 4:18pmAnother example of unions out to destroy a private business, what Owners do with their money is not the business of anyone, period.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 8:56pmDoes anyone realize this retirement issue has a lot to do with taking care of older, retired players whose bodies are breaking down and they have little to no help even though they laid the foundation for the millionaire players of today? Of course it is also for the benefit of current players, but If the players and owners can work out a retirement system between each other, then who cares? It would be a private deal and in no way impact public funding. The resentment of these athletes is comical.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 11:11pmSo? There is nothing preventing the players’ union from using union dues to support those retired players. The problem is that they want the owners to retroactively pay. Is un-American to retroactively renegotiate a contract. Those retired players had a contract which *they* agreed to.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 4:04pmNobody, Nobody asks these players to enter the NFL ! They know up front about the 6 years. Is this the owners fault? Is it? They get super high pay for playing and now the owners owe them a living forever? OMG! Give me a break !!

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 4:03pmI really have no problem at all with how much money professional athletes make. But why should the league be responsible for their retirement?
They make enough money to have a pretty comfortable money base when they stop playing, even if it’s a few years.
There are a lot of highly intelligent players in the league that don’t need this help. Heck, Brian Westbrook got a graduate degree while still playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. If your career only lasts a few years, then you have to think about and prepare for your next one to be able to sustain yourself.
And the people bringing up their college degrees are absolutely right. What happens to all of the college football players who don’t get drafted? They have to find a job just like the rest of us.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 3:49pmDidn’t all of them go to college, some for 4 years. Isn’t that a retirement plan? Seems to be for average americans, gee, some people don’t even go to college and yet they survive.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 8:57pmI quit NFL after the last strike. Switched over to NASCAR and never looked back. These nascar racers have no unions and sign multi-year contracts. I read somewhere recently that Carl Edwards has already made over 17 Million this year. No union – no retirement – No signing bonus and no strikes. WOW! I bet the lawyers hate them.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 3:40pmThe NFL can never survive if they have to give retirement to all the “X” players. Learning broadcasting if fine however retirement will kill the league.

Posted on July 3, 2011 at 5:37pmWell it seems all pro NFL’ers are Democrats. They seem to think someone owes them something for nothing. My lord, They make millions !!!!! You had the opportunity of a life time… Now go use your education and get a job. If they haven’t saved for the future with all that money, then too bad. Just Democrats wanting someone to support them.
