‘The President is Dead’: Fox News Twitter Account Hacked

NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Hackers broke into Fox’s political Twitter account early Monday, posting updates saying President Barack Obama had been assassinated.

A series of six tweets coming from the FoxNewsPolitics account reported that Obama had been shot to death in Iowa and the shooter was unknown.

PC World has a screen shot of the fake tweets:

The President is Dead: Fox News Twitter Account Hacked

In a statement posted on its website later Monday morning, Fox News called the tweets “malicious” and “false.” It said the hacking is being investigated.

“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital said.

The statement added that Fox has alerted the U.S. Secret Service.

As HuffPo points out, the hacking seems to have started late Sunday night, with a group calling itself TheScriptKiddies taking over the account and reaching out to the infamous hacker group Anonymous and offering to assist the band of hackers:

The President is Dead: Fox News Twitter Account Hacked

According to PC World, the Script Kiddies talked with a local student newspaper in New York. It apparently includes two former Anonymous members among its ranks and has vowed more attacks on Fox:

Representatives of the new group purportedly spoke to Think, a student-run newspaper at New York’s Stony Brook University, after its Fox News Politics hack. The group said that two of its members were once affiliated with Anonymous. The Script Kiddies also told Think it hopes to participate in the new AntiSec campaign to leak documents stolen from government and corporate servers. The group also promises more attacks against Fox News in the weeks to come. “I’ve looked into their security and site defacement does not seem to be an option. Everything else,” a Script Kiddies representative told Think, “is fair game.”

Obama plans to spend the July Fourth holiday at a barbecue at the White House with military families and administration staffers.

Secret Service spokesman George Olgilvie says the agency wouldn’t comment on the tweets.

Fox’s political Twitter account has more than 34,000 followers.

As of publication time, the tweets were still visible on Fox’s Twitter account.

And I want to go on the record to say no matter how much I “can’t stand” what this President has done/is doing that we believe is destroying this country and is treasonous – I and most, if not all, true Consvs. do not wish him to be killed. But I do pray for him as God has told us to and that He will bring about truth and justice – and I know He’ll take care of anything that needs to be taken care of in His timing and plans.

All of these “social” networking sites are nothing more than pure garbage.

Twitter, Facebook, etc… and MySpace and Friendster before them – they are pure garbage.

Stay off of them and keep your kids off of them – they are nothing more than intelligence collections engines for the Communists on one hand and National Socialists on the other – both part of global socialism calling for the destruction of individual liberty by first taking out the United States.

Preserve the United States – flush all social networking sites down the toilet!

The War has begun in earnest on Fox and this is the reason that those who watch Fox, believe in Fox and who understand that Fox is being targeted for attacks from any direction must remember this and not believe anything they see or hear in the upcoming months, perhaps years, until such information is verified or discredited. Hopefully Ailes and Murdoch are preparing themselves for filing many slander and libel suits. One good lawsuit against a basement hacker would put a stop to a lot of this nonsense.

The death of a POTUS, especially in the means they (the hackers) said, is reprehensable murder, and any change in this country must be done peacefully to the fullest extent possible, not with any violence.

Anonymous is Soros’s Cyber attack arm of the Open Society Institute. You must read that the lawyer for the InFamous Wiki-Leaks founder, Julian Assange, is the group’s legal advisor. This was all over the news wires in Europe. And it was Anonymous that went after those that tried to distance themselves and defund Wiki-Leaks.

I will guarantee that the CIA knows where the hacks come from since they have realtime access to the servers for every ISP in the US, remember this started after 9/11/01 when the previous administration went to the Telcos to get back-door access to IP information and placed sniffers for the FBI to go after Terrorists and their funding.

And with these groups of Czars around the president I will be confident that the perpetrators will not be revealed since this works to the favour of the Administration during its fight to destroy and create a new Communist/Socialist Society in America. Also this Administration has a vile disgust of any and I mean any organisation that puts light on these facts. Rupert Murdoch and George Soros/Schwartz have a personal feud in my opinion and “We the People” that care about a “FREE PRESS” are in the cross fire.

Well you know that is a very good question, and the answer is not as easy as one may think. There are proxy services out there that mask/block your ip and no one knows where your are logging in from. There are also many variations of malware out there that will turn the host machine into a “zombie” and do the bidding of the person controlling it. Meaning I am in New York controlling a computer in Key West with a piece of malware the user downloaded. I do my bidding and the feds trace the user in Key West – by the time they examine the pc I have erased all traces of my being there.
Twitter should have stronger security or offer 3rd party tokens for login validations – a personal user would not want to go to the expense, but I’m sure Fox etc would.

Yeah…. You think it’s easy to track someone who does this, but the simple fact is that it’s much harder than they make it look on tv. Imagine this was some college student living in an apt complex of a 1000 students. Let’s say they have comcast. Well, this would most likely mean that the vast majority of these kids share the same IP Address according to the net. They have different private IPs, but when they pass the comcast modem, they are one. Try tracking that person down. it will be much harder than you think. IP Address is not a personally identifiable bit of information because of this and many other reasons. But if the government wanted to, they could pay white collar hackers a lot of money to catch these guys…

Odd, I looked over the article, which just posted the news, and even a selection of the comments. It all seemed pretty bland, not much in the way of celebrating.

As for the hackers, I’ve seen these crowds around the net, they don’t have ties to the media (of any kind), they simply love to sow chaos. They have no political leanings that guide their actions. Remember this is from the same movement (different group) that hacked a bunch of government sites as well, their looking for targets of oppourtunity not targets based on their view.

Regardless of one’s perception of the events and causes of hacking, and the ongoing news reports of it, does in fact condition people’s minds to be inclined to accept the draining of their bank accounts due to hackers.

      @ILUVAMERICA

You are a disgusting, treasonous animal and I hope the moderators at the Blaze have sense and guts enough to send this to the SS or FBI. I have already forwarded it to a relative in law enforcement with DC contacts. You DO NOT love American and you ARE NOT a patriot if you wish for the death of a constitutionally and democratically elected president even if you disagree with is/her policies.

It was just hacking Twitter. That’s not going to lead to a bank heist. Maybe with the message they posted, the Secret Service will track them down. Kind of odd that a bunch of ******* Fox haters would post bad stuff about Obama, but they‘re morons so I guess they couldn’t foresee the obvious target those posts would put on their backs. If it were just Twitter and Fox, they’d have no help. Threaten the Pres. and you open up a whole new can of whoopass.

Twitter is responsible. This starts with Twitter not having security measures in place to detect HACKING. Maybe when someone tries to log in more than 3 times in a minute, you might have a clue.

This should not be a surprise to anybody. Twitter (TWIT-ter, appropriately named), tweet, ****. The more we progress, the more we regress. Maybe we will get smart again sometime. Hey, it could happen! Try to be optimistic.

Does anyone on here believe when they do catch them (and they will) that they will do anything to them? That is the shame of it. The law has not caught up with the times and they won’t do anything to them. Bill O’reilly kept on and found the one that hacked his site. I think he is serving a yr. and going to have to do community service and a little restitution. The Secret Service won’t do anything toward catching them. But I do believe Fox will hire who it takes to find them.

Personally I wish they would have to serve @ least 5yrs.+ We can‘t keep having these Hackers doing this and it won’t be stopped until someone is prosecuteted and the punishment is enough to deter it.

While such an attack done by a conservative would result in a singular joint effort by federal law enforcement, the present DOJ will not pursue this because it was liberals attacking FOX. It wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out to be instigated by the democratic committee.

It’s all part of the plan. Progressive radicals and societal malcontents are being encouraged and provoked into perpetrating major hacks and internet attacks. What happens? The government comes down on internet freedom and anonymity with heavy criminal legislation, massive regulations & restrictions to use, and licensing to both content and who may legally post it.

I feel confident in predicting that, strangely enough, most of the damage will be to the ability of dissenters to the Progressive agenda to voice opposition, disseminate information, maintain their privacy, and organize politically.
