See The (Shocking) Numbers Behind the Jobs Numbers

Yesterday we showed you a depressing chart that shows “it would take until 2016 to regain the employment highs of 2006-2007.” That’s a reality check considering the media blitz the administration took part in last week trumpeting the great jobs numbers. Ready for some more? According to number-crunching blogger Jim Quinn (via Zero Hedge), the jobs numbers are leaving out some important details.
Despite Obama and his crew boasting about adding 216,000 jobs last month, Quinn says the economic picture isn’t all roses and buttercups:
All it took was 2.8 million Americans to leave the labor force to achieve this fabulous reduction in the unemployment rate. The percentage of Americans in the labor force of 64.2% is the lowest since 1983. The employment to population ratio of 58.5% is also the lowest since 1983. These atrocious figures are after a supposed economic recovery that has been underway for the last 18 months.
He provides a chart from calculatedriskblog.com to back up his assertions:
“The percentage of the American working population in the workforce consistently ranged between 66% and 67% from 1998 through 2008,” he writes. “Then, suddenly in 2008, after the economy went in the tank, a couple million Americans found better things to do with their spare time and left the workforce.”

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 11:13amTypical… Feds never use the employment rate but prefers the UNemployment rate, because it’s easier to manipulate and “fudge the numbers”. Harder to count unemployed but counting the employed is cheap and easy…just count tax payer withholdings each payday.
Inflation figures…Nowadays, they don’t include food or fuel in the “shopping basket”. (this happened under Clinton’s watch I believe). It would be easy for the media to report inflation % calculated to include the missing items(the old way) and allow comparisons with previous inflation rates…but they’re too lazy or complicit. If Fox did, it would be used as “proof” that … well, you know the mantra.
If you want to see the DEms getting all “fically concerned” just propose an unemployment benefit extension….that will add all the latest jobs gains (expired benefits actually) back into the UNemployed column.

It‘s another farce by the Obama administration to try and con what’s left of his ignorant electorate into thinking he has improved our economy. Yet Obama’s voters know — especially his street smart, poor, working class, minority supporters — that their lives are miserable because of him. His policies don’t work. They are mostly out of work, or know 20 people who are. Gas and food prices have skyrocketed. I’ve seen co-workers crying because of the fact their pay check doesn’t cover squat anymore… barely rent. Now, the election in 2012 will be about whether these loyal liberal Dems will admit failure and vote the other way, or continue on the path to nowhere with Obama. Voting for Obama is a vote for self destruction and poverty… and deep down the normal folks know it.

Then in the 60′s we decided socialist ideology was somehow a functional system, and we are now the world’s biggest debtor nation. HMMMMMM. When SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Farm subsidies, etc all turn to those lock boxes the gubmint has set up and find dusty old IOU’s held by Chinese citizens who say “I calling this note.” 1995 Soviet Union right here in river city.

So–we have “Net Neutrality, “good” job numbers, the senate and white house calling the tea party extreme and dangerous, Obie running again, and Holder blaming congress for the military tribunals. Simple equation really, while the gov’t lies to us that 8.9% is the unemployment rate, when it it is really 17%, is the real problem! They don’t count peopel who are not taking the unemployment dole checks, isn’t that special. Just like they remove oil and food from the CPI, in order to underreport inflation..which is approaching 20% right now, don‘t ya’ll feel it in your wallets yet? This is a farce and a coverup, to keep people from panic, from revolting! We The Sheeple are being led to the slaughterhouse, silently. George Washington warned us we would be led there. THAN a year later they tell us what we already knew.. we were in a recession for the entire year BUSH said the economy was fine.. What’s the difference between these two measures?
For that matter, is unemployment a percentage of the population, percentage of the “labor force”, or a percentage of the percentage of the population “employed”? Why doesn’t the difference between the first two measures equal the unemployment rate? Where do the under-employed fit in to these percentages?
Can any/all commenters answer these questions concisely?
