This set shows the before-and-after shows the Joplin neighborhood surrounding the local high school:
This side-by-side shows St. John’s Regional Medical Center, the hospital ravaged by the storm, as well as the local high school again (right):
The rest of the pictures show various Joplin neighborhoods, or what’s left of them:

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 3:34pmTo keep this in perspective…this has happend before in this area. It has just not been this bad before. This is a rare occurence Please, do not confuse nature’s fury with manmade fury. We only had a few min. to take cover. It was just a freak weather event. It’s just that it has hit hard because of all the years Joplin and surrounding area has been building up the community to make it a metro area. Please, focus on the people not the event itself. Thank you, God be with you all.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 3:25pmIf you wondered over the many years about why tornados just happened to be missing major populated areas and thanking God they did not, you can stop! They are now hitting major areas like no other time in our history and it isn’t because there are more to hit than ever before that would not explain this entirely.

Well, according to Fox, if you are unemployed, you are a loser and a ‘taker’, not a ‘maker.’

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 2:29pmTo those of you who excoriate the president for being somewhere else during this horrible tragedy I say this: First of all, I’m no fan of Obama, at ALL, but being a 20 year veteran fireman, I can tell you that the LAST thing you want at a scene like this is the freaking president showing up. From experience, the first thing that happens when the president shows up is that they make EVERYBODY stop moving. No foot traffic, no vehicles moving, no chainsaws running… nothing. This actually hampers the rescue and clean up efforts for as long as the nitwit is on scene which can be up to a couple of hours. Trust me when I tell you that he’s better off being off somewhere else and out of the way of the people who can actually help these people directly. It‘s not like he’s going to pick up a shovel or a chainsaw and start working. Let him do his job of declaring the town a federal disaster area, and perhaps give a heartfelt speech of condolence from afar. If he must visit, make it in a location AWAY from the actual damage path where people are still moving about normally. They’ll all have to stop moving too, but at least all that will have been interrupted will be somewhat normal movement and not search, rescue and clean up movement. Just my .02 cents worth.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 1:31pmNot only are thousands of people left abruptly homeless but their places of employment are gone too. Some are telling their surviving employees this week that they will not be rebuilding and that their jobs are “gone with the wind”.
Missourians are rallying to the help of those in Jolin and other areas of the state hard hit by the tornados and flooding. However, this is larger than they or government can handle. Please reach out to help the reputable local relief agencies and funds.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 1:10pmThank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Thank you Glenn for presenting this in a positive light. CNN is already making a mockery of our community. I have barely eatin in days was lucky to get a nights sleep last night. Was the first night this week that we slept upstairs because we were on edge. We almost went to Home Depot for garden supplies and My best friend just got home before the tornado hit. We hunkered down Tuesday night in our hallway and all I did was pray outloud calmy…”Father, I already promised everything I have, even our lives, they are yours…if you need them…take them…We love you heavenly father and we know we will see you whether tonight or another night…we know we are your people” by praying this outloud it calmed my nephew(my son) and he started falling asleep when the winds were howling outside and the tree limbs were beating the house and hail was beating the windows. We all felt a sense of calm…even our pets…they were falling asleep too. It goes without saying, that we prayed for our Brothers and Sisters in Joplin and all the local volunteers. Even though we have been hit very hard, we WILL rebuild, we WILL recover. It will be a long process but we WILL rise above the ashes stronger and more connected then EVER!!! A special shout out to the guys at KZRG 1310 (102.9) our local fox news channel…THEY ARE AWESOME!!! They have been on since Sunday @ around 4:30. We love these guys!! I am thinking of starting a support group for the spouses of the volunteers. We use to have this when my husband was in the military. I just dont know how else we can help. Starting tomorrow I will be feeding the guys at the trash company where my husband works in Joplin, a potluck dinner everyday so they are fed and can keep up their strength. I just dont know what else to do. We were indirectly effected. But effected nonetheless. I know monday we will be going around and offering our help to cut up trees in my uncles neighborhood. We are just still in shock.

I also hope this shows the posters on this site who are always chatting up an interfering Deity that rules their lives as their ‘Lord’ who judges them in real time, that the tripe about ‘god’ punishing us for various sins is nonsense. Otherwise, God is punishing the South and the Midwest for what? Being super Tea Partiers?

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 12:13pmThe reason we’re seeing these violent storms is because La Nina suddenly stopped a few months ago….thus the jet stream is stuck further south than it should be this time of year. I guess they are too busy swooning over the State Visit to their country by our American Fuhrer, President Obama who should have immediately cancelled his visit with his remote (and phoney) relative in Eire and then flying off to Bucjingham Palce to party with the Queen, Presdient Bush was a day late to visit the catastrophe after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and the USA and Europen press crucified him for being so uncaring and “insensitive”. So what if Obma visits this disaster area this weekend when he returns from having a good time in Europe? ZHe should have come home immediatley. Of course the fact that 97% of the people affected by this series of tornadoes happene to be whites living in rural USA doesn‘t have anything thing to do with Obama’s weak and uncaring response does it?

Good point, why would anyone expect Obama to care or to do anything other than continue his permanent vacation at the taxpayers’ expense?. None will believe he truly gives a rip when he finally does his photo-opt in Joplin. These are Red State people many of whom cling to God and their guns, not the kind of “folks” who greatly concern our narcissistic usurper-in-chief as he has demonstrated on several notable occasions.

We are Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and we teamed up with our friends from the local Holy Spirit Catholic church here in Lees Summit MO, and drove down supplies to the Forest Park Baptist Church very near the devastation. It was pretty cool to see the different faiths coming together for the greater good of our fellow mankind.
Report Post »Our Stake Center / Church Building was totally demolished and was right across the street from the High School. 6 people were in the building when the tornado hit and survived by hiding in the womens restroom. The mens restroom right next to it was totally crushed. Heavenly Father was definitely watching over them.
There are no words to describe what we saw there in Joplin. But I can say that God’s work is underway now. There were men driving around in trucks looking for anyone who needed help. It was very moving to see what is happening in the name of Christianity. We are a Christian nation, no matter what the POTUS has to say. We will survive, because that is who we are. We are strong and we shall be united as a country under GOD once again.
Keep up the great work Joplin. Show America what the gospel is really all about and may GOD bless each and everyone of you.
