‘The Simpsons’ Mocks Fox News: ‘Not Racist, but #1 With Racists’

In the world according to “The Simpsons,” those who watch the top-rated cable news outlet Fox News are just a bunch of racists.
The long-running adult cartoon took a shot at Fox News last night, an odd choice since it airs on basic-cable Fox stations. The episode poked at the media in general, but as Colby Hall over at Mediaite says, “last night’s episode featured lots of jokes that many saw as anti-Republican.” The first clue is the Fox News helicopter slogan:

It seemed like they just came up with a premise of ‘we want to mock conservatives’ and then tried to build an episode around it, and it wasn’t funny at all. It just reminds me that old saying that humor is always based in truth. That’s why these jokes fall flat.

I’ve been a fan of Family Guy also, but after last nights episode with bill maher and arianna huffington, my wife and I will no longer be watching. These people need to understand that comedy is why they are being watched by the consumer, and when they start to use their bathroom humor cartoon as a platform for political speech, they will be out of a job.

It‘s not pure luck that one of Bob’s prisoner numbers was 24601 or that they nailed the plot and motives of Hamlet during a single segment, or that the monorail song sounds so similar to Trouble from Music Man, etc, etc.

If you have been watching the Simpsons this season( and I admit I do since it still makes me laugh) there have been a lot of attacks against Fox. There appears to be some resentment in the manner in which Fox treats them. Its probably some dispute between the company and writers.

Dan here. I am an expert on race relations. I remember you running( with the ducklike waddle of yours) in the Elkhart 7/16 Marathon. I distinctly remember you waddling by that sheep farm and taking that Left hand turn , only to see you having Relations with that ewe. Even she had a disgusted look on her poor sheep face. After you put another Depends on, you continued the race as if nothing happened. Way to go.

The truth is there are far more racists that watch other networks than watch FOX, for racism is a human condition that knows no artificial boundaries. I’d hazard to guess there are far more racists that vote Democrat than vote Republican. Yet it would be typical for a intellectually dishonest liberal writer or writing staff to only point to racism on the other end of the political spectrum. And we know there are no longer any societal restraints on progressives to not insult half their audience if it fits their political world view.
I stopped watching the show a ages ago when I noticed that the restraints and good taste were no longer there.

I watched the episode last night and not even 5 minutes after the helicopter flew by did NBC get worse treatment than Fox did. The NBC rep at the meeting was treated, rightly so, as a complete moron by the others there. To say that this was a hit piece on all the viewers of Fox is very telling.

Disney Pixar and Dreamworks Animation movies continue to do outstanding at the box offices. I think of Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, and other famous cartoons as a part of the American Experience.

I would love to see some actual studies that demonstrate this. Something that shows that “this joke fails that test”. Something less fluffy than “racism is a human condition that knows no artificial boundaries.” I’m not trying to be a jerk. I am really interested to see how you got this data.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 3:16pmThere are no ‘studies’ or ‘data’ per se, and surely there never will be; few people will self-identify as racist for any sample to be accurate. To know the truth of my assertion, though, which was something different than an argument about ratings share, you merely have to look to demographics. Fox is the number one cable news network, but the combination of all other news outlets taken together far outpaces it and far more than that watch no news altogether. The only rationality to claim that the majority of racists watch Fox is to believe only their demographics, namely republicans and conservative minded independents, are racist and that most republicans only watch FOX. And if you believe that you’re a far left talking point.
Alternatively, for a share based argument, you might say FOX is #1 with racists and non-racists alike, as well as #1 with unwed mothers of five, but that wasn’t the gist of the joke.
The bit about comedy being funnier when based in truth is what almost any comedian will say when discussing his craft. Probably not Joy Behar, though.

You’ve got to remember these jokes are written by people that never watch fox news, jsut gt the clips from the daily show and MSNBC. So they don’t know why the viewers actually like it. it’s because it is the most fair and most balanced of all the network news.
