The Top 8 Videos From Alaska’s Massive, Record Snow

From Anchorage to the smaller town of Cordova, Alaska has been making headlines for its recent record-breaking amount of snow. While it may be natural to think “It’s Alaska — shouldn’t they know how to deal with snow?“, 15 feet in such a short amount of time makes for back-breaking work and a shortage of supplies. The Telegraph reports that Cordova, population 2,200, is even having newly manufactured shovels shipped in to deal with the snow.

Here are some YouTube videos depicting the good, the bad and the ugly of Alaska’s recent snowfall.

Even a time-lapsed video of shoveling out a car in Cordova looks like hard work:

Here’s a unique way to clean off a buried car. A dog fetching a snowball on top of a car (yes, there’s a car under there), wipes snow off as she slides down:

There’s a process for shoveling snow off the roof of an elementary school. Listen to a weary shoveler explain:

It’s not all about snow either. Sea ice is a problem as well. The Coast Guard Cutter Healy helps the tank vessel Renda cut through the ice-choked Bering Sea to make it to Nome, Alaska, with the much needed 1.3 million gallons of fuel. According to The Associated Press the tanker was shepherded by Healy for hundreds of miles and made it to Nome Thursday evening. Watch the footage of the two ships:

But for some, the snow hasn’t just meant work. Here are some Alaskans taking advantage of the weather for some fun and games in “Snowdova”:

What’s interesting about this next video is not the Jeeps or trucks braving the roads, which look surprisingly well-plowed and traveled. It’s the parking lot that comes up on the left. Car. Car. Car. Airplane? Must have been a prime parking spot:

Residents aren’t the only ones a little put out by the snow. The dogs in the following videos don’t seem particularly thrilled themselves:

If you have or have seen any other cool, scary or just plain shocking amounts of snow videos from Alaska, send them our way.

We’ve added a couple more videos. Check back periodically for more.

Imagine the scientific community of the early 70s saying what? We are headed for another Ice age. Then reeling that back in after many mild winters throughout the US in the 80s/90s then alas concocting the whole global warming scheme which is falling apart year after wintry year and rainy springs and wet summers. There is evidence that the climate changes every year. In winter it is cold, changes in the spring, warmer in the summer, cooler in fall and, guess what, the winter gets cold, again. Every hundred years it can come a mini ice age – conversely, a warming trend happens periodically. Back in the seventies the nuts were warning that the earth was getting cold. We were headed for global cooling. Now, they have found monetary increases by convincing idiots that it is warming. I don’t think any money was made in global cooling, except by Hollywood movies. But Gore figured out how to scam stupid people with warming (carbon credits – what a crock).

      Most common reply:

“Climate Change” does not necessarily mean that there will be less snow or no snow at all, but that there will be greater extremes in the weather. Hence the record-breaking snowfall in such a short period of time.

PublicPencilMan. Her quote was Global warming, not climate change. However I love the change that goes through when the theory doesn’t hold. First Global warming, but no its cooling, no its snowing, yeah, extreme climate is not global warming, so lets call it climate change. Isn’t that the weather? It is always changing, so hasn’t climate change been going on for a couple years now (many many many years, centuries, pick your measurement)

The eruption seeded the stratosphere and now it is snowing as a result. last years GLOBAL weather was caused by two HUGE VOLCANIC eruptions near the equator in the Philippines!!! it has long been proven science that volcanoes cause world weather and only sence the G>W> crowd and JUNK SCIENCE that has been politically pushed has this been ignored

      @ECHOHAWK
I’m sorry…. most people could figure out and connect the dots but for someone like yourself I’ll slow it down for you. You see the “Green Movement” supports the “Green Energy” power sources like windmills and solar panels aka “renewable energy.“ The ”Green Movement” is against conventional fossil fuel power plants because of the amount of hydrocarbons released into the environment. Their theory is more hydrocarbons in the atmosphere = more “Green House” effect which means warmer earth = smaller polar ice caps = rising ocean levels. Are you OK am I going to fast for you??? So the “Green” people push for more “Green Energy” which really does what? It creates a need for more windmills and solar panels which = more money to “Green” companies like….. guess who? That’s right G.E. …..”we bring things to life.” So more money to companies like G.E. = less money to companies that sell oil, coal, and natural gas…. how fitting? So how does the record snow fall tie into all of the “Green Movement?” Well it doesn‘t because you can’t claim the glaciers are shrinking when they are getting record snow falls in the areas where they have glaciers like Alaska.

Long before you were born way- way back in the late 60‘s and the 70’s the scientists were claiming “global warming” nope they were claiming “global cooling” actually they claimed the world was heading into an “ice age.” Wow pretty scary stuff! So what happen? There was no money to be m

      Posted on January 13, 2012 at 11:00pm

oops… There was no money to be made!

Last thing for your global warming people! The experts (geologists) claim there were 5 major ice ages in the history of the world! That is not counting any minor cool down periods. They don’t know what started the 5 major “ice ages” and/or what ended the “ice ages” but they know they ended because we exist today. LET ME SAY THIS REAL SLOW…. if there were 5 major “ice ages” then there had to be at least 4 major “global warming” periods too! And that happen long before there were: people, automobiles, “evil SUV’s”, coal or oil burning power plates, and/or anything that uses fuel that make HYDROCARBONS!

So is there reasonable theory that the world warms and cools by itself and/or is effected directly by the hottest thing in our solar system like our SUN??? The problem with that theory is it doesn’t make any money…. unless you sell…. that’s right you guessed…. sun block!!!
