The Top Headlines About Barack Obama’s Pot-Smoking High School ‘Choom Gang’

The Top Headlines About Barack Obamas Pot Smoking High School Choom GangThe latest revelations from a forthcoming biography of President Barack Obama sent the media world into overdrive Friday over descriptions of high school Obama’s marijuana-loving “choom gang” — and elicited no shortage of pot-related puns.

Below, a short round-up of some of the best headlines to come from journalist David Maraniss’s book:

NPR: Inhale to the Chief: More Details of Obama’s Pot-Smoking Youth Revealed

“A self-selected group of boys at Punahou School who loved basketball and good times called themselves the Choom Gang. Choom is a verb, meaning ‘to smoke marijuana…’

“… As a member of the Choom Gang, Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking trends. The first was called ‘TA,‘ short for ’total absorption.’ To place this in the physical and political context of another young man who would grow up to be president, TA was the antithesis of Bill Clinton’s claim that as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford he smoked dope but never inhaled.”

Time: Audacity of Dope: Tales of a Toking Teenage Obama

Obama and his friends drove around the lush Hawaii countryside, hot-boxing their VW bus and re-upping with a long-haired pizza-tossing dealer named Ray….We even learn about the Choom Gang’s lingo:

Barry also had a knack for interceptions. When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted, “Intercepted!,” and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind.

Sydney Morning Herald: For Obama, dope came before hope

He also popularised ”roof hits” after smoking in cars with the windows closed: ”When the pot was gone, they tilted their heads back and sucked in the last bit of smoke from the ceiling.” Former members told Maraniss the gang’s favoured vehicle was a ”Volkswagen bus, also known as the Choomwagon”.

BuzzFeed: A User’s Guide To Smoking Pot With Barack Obama

One of the favorite words in their subculture revealed their democratic nature. The word was veto. Whenever an idea was broached, someone could hold up his hand in the V sign (a backward peace sign of that era) and indicate that the motion was not approved. They later shortened the process so that you could just shout “V” to get the point across. The the Choom Gang, all V’s were created equal.

The next two aren’t headlines, but worth including as well:

Yahoo! News: “Bill Clinton he was not.”

“When you were with Barry and his pals, if you exhaled precious pakalolo (Hawaiian slang from marijuana, meaning “numbing tobacco”) instead of absorbing it fully into your lungs, you were assessed a penalty and your turn was skipped the next time the joint came around. “‘Wasting good bud smoke was not tolerated,’ explained one member of the Choom Gang, Tom Topolinski, the Chinese-looking kid with a Polish name who answered to Topo.”

New York Post: “President Obama was once Hawaii’s pothead-in-chief”

Obama even thanked his bong buddies — and their dealer — in his high school yearbook: “Thanks Tut, Gramps, Choom Gang, and Ray for all the good times.”

Maraniss noted that, “A hippie drug-dealer made his [Obama’s] acknowledgments; his own mother did not.”

If this was a Conservative they would be nailing him to the cross every day. Since its Obama the Liberal Media is controlling the narrative that its OK to smoke marijuana. They make light of Obama’s smoking as something cool and place cute little descriptions on his actions.

Majority of americans now support de-criminilizing marijuana. In addition to the Republican party dying b/c of demographics – they are also taking stands on the wrong issues. You know the Republican party hates marijuana more than $16T debt because one requires actual sacrifices. For a long time, the Republican party has been a party of convenience

The “War on drugs” is actually un-Constitutional. The Constitution has nothing in it that states regulating vices. Alchohol prohibition required a Constitutional ammendment to make its ban legal.
They had to overturn the ammendment when they stopped the ban.
Not to mention the fact that the “War on drugs” isn’t working.
How many of you like throwing non-violent crime offenders in jail and paying for:
      Their time in jail
      Rehibilitation after time in jail
Wasted resources trying to find the non-violent crime offenders

      Also,
The “war on drugs” only strenthens the drug cartels as it gives them a black market to make their $.
Look to the effects of Alchohol prohibition. The crimes that took place when it was happening and the after effects once it was legalized. The Chicago thugs that were running the stuff almost went under and had to move to other illegal activities.
End the war on drugs. I’m tired of paying for it.

Did anyone wonder what was being hidden when Obama refused to release his health records? I wondered with Clinton as well. Clinton always had a tell-tale red nose that suggested some sort of substance abuse, and now we have a history of it present in the current occupant of the White House. The more they stonewall routine reports such as a physical, the more the viscous rumors will continue to circulate. Whoever thinks habitual pot smoking has no long-term effects hasn’t delved too far into the history of users. It will be surpressed because there is too much money to be made selling it “legally”. Cha-ching! and never mind the dain bramage being done to the little people; after all they will be much easier to rule if they have destroyed their brain synapses. And here I thought Obama was Mr Brilliant; the smartest man to ‘occupy’ the White House in nearly a century. That would put him on a par with Woodrow Wilson…

      @JGraham III
Where is the proof to your claims on brain damage?
The U.S. has never allowed it to be properly tested. They don’t know what the effects on the brain/body are. There are actually studies in Europe showing increased brain cell activity.
Show me where there has been one single death attributed to MJ. You can’t because in all the years the plant has been around; there isn’t a single death that has been attributed to MJ.
Vices are vices and individuals will continue to do them. I’m just tired of paying for sending non-violent pot heads to prison while I watch the violence of the drug cartels getting worse and worse.

Google “endogenous cannabinoids” think about their role in natural biologic synaptic interactions.

And I find it curious that the federal government went into “refer madness” mode and started a large enforcement effort and program not long after the need to run down bootleggers went away.

Educated doesn’t always mean smarter as is proven daily by Obama, Paul, other fringers and their supporters…

The biggest story of the primary election is being ignored by the MSM. Paul WILL win the nomination on the first round in Tampa.

      42 USC 1971 – Sec. 1971. Voting rights

      (b) Intimidation, threats, or coercion No person, whether acting under color of law or otherwise, shall intimidate, threaten, coerce, or attempt to intimidate, threaten, or coerce any other person for the purpose of interfering with the right of such other person to vote or to vote as he may choose, or of causing such other person to vote for, or not to vote for, any candidate for the office of President, Vice President, presidential elector, Member of the Senate, or Member of the House of Representatives, Delegates or Commissioners from the Territories or possessions, at any general, special, or primary election held solely or in part for the purpose of selecting or electing any such candidate.

This means that delegates cannot be bound to vote for any candidate for the nomination for President, Vice President, etc….

Rule 38 adheres to this Federal Law. There WILL be over 1144 Paul supporters as delegates at the convention and they will ALL vote for Paul on the first round. Federal law trumps any state law.

I will be the last line of defense against against the Paul supporter onslaught in Tampa if I have to. Me against how many Paul acolytes? Whatever the number, I like the odds!!

You threatened me with bodily harm a month ago because you finally realized I was more than just a tad smarter than your 54 years because one: I of course am your smarter and more experienced elder, and two: I am your better. Plus… I eat wheaties, the breakfast of champions instead of your fruity pebbles, the breakfast of LEFTCOAST liberals. Or is it granola that you eat… can’t remember. And… I wear manly steel tipped shoes and not birkenstocks, also the choice of the LEFTCOAST Liberal.

Anyways, where were you? Oh, you threatened me a month ago and I’ve been in steady training since. You said something about your friend or neighbor teaching you Jackie Chan moves like replacing someone’s drink with a V8 vegatable drink like in the commercial… IT’S A VEGGIE MORNING and that scared me to no end. So I went and took some Martial Art classes. Hey, and this guy Martial… he taught me both Charcoal AND oil painting in under 3 weeks!!

No Time, I do not think I threatened you, I think I did respond in a cluster of posts between you, and I think, Jefferson, if I remember correctly. Granted, I am fairly good at Tae Kwon Do, Akido, and I did take some Chuck Norris Karate lessons for about a year while I was stationed in Norfolk, VA. I have not been in an actual fight in over 30 years, although I do stay in shape and practice daily.

By the way, I have never been to San Francisco in my life, but would not mind driving down through the Redwoods to go and look it over with my wife. I live up in Oregon, and am sitting here looking out across the ocean from my master bedroom as I respond to your ridiculousness. I am thinking that you will actually not be in Tampa, I do not think you have the ambition to get off the couch and stop watching the MSM.

I bet you are crapping your pants knowing we have a federal law that will back us in Tampa. You ARE researching the true delegate counts , like Romney only having 496 instead of the media’s count of 1084, aren’t you? You do know that out of the 496, that Paul supporters make up about 160-165 of those , right? This IS what is happening. We are stealthy in some situations and have to just say we are for anyone but Romney (trying to sound more like you) in order to get the spots we need. But all is fair in love and war, huh? I have been telling you for quite some time about what was going to take place, but you cannot see the forest for the trees. You are losing.

Pot has different effects for different people when it comes to short term/long term memory loss.
The U.S. has never conducted a full study as to the effects of MJ on the human brain. They actually won’t let any studies even take place here. There are studies in Europe that have actually shown increased brain cell function/growth in the brain after smoking.
The U.S. illegalized it over the fact that they couldn’t control its growth. They didn’t illegalize it due to the harm. To date there is actually not a single death that has been attributed to MJ.
Also, the “War on drugs” is actually un-Constitutional. The Constitution has nothing in it that states regulating vices. Alchohol prohibition required a Constitutional ammendment to make its ban legal.
They had to overturn the ammendment when they stopped the ban.

      That’s right Mammy not one.

      Also,
Was this country setup on majority rule? NO.
That is exactly what the Constitution was setup for. So no one person/party would RULE over the rest.
We wanted out of a Monarchy which is why the revolution. Who are you to tell anybody what they can and cannot consume? It would be none of your business whether I drank a gallon of gasoline.
If that is my choice; it is my choice and not yours or anybody else.
Freedom across the board and not picking and choosing freedoms as they fit majority rule.
The Constitution is the beacon of freedom and vices are Constitutionally protected. The individual can make up their own mind on what they choose to eat or not eat; smoke or not smoke; buy or not buy.
      Get it?
The “war on drugs” is un-Constitutional in the first place. Why do you think it took a Constitutional amendment to ban alcohol? Then when they wanted to stop prohibition due to the crime/black market; they had to remove the amendment.

The individual likes vices so I say let them have them. How does a drunk/pot head/prostitute affect me in my daily life? It doesn’t. Unless they get behind the wheel but that is a different argument.

It is all starting to make sense now. This is why we have such strange comments from the POTUS. He really cannot tell reality from his high, or should I say his TA.

Actually, since we are on weirdness….Mitt thinks God lives on a planet called Kolob, that he will inherit a planet “like Jesus”, and wears magical underwear to protect him from “demons.” You people are voting for a guy who, if he was a kid, you wouldn’t let your children play with.

The underwear thing is true. They are never not in contact with them, not even in the shower. a bit wierd, but the Catholics have different strokes too.

Vote for a pot head dog eater and sign your checks over to the IRS. Kudos. Great argument. Do you enjoy bbq or ranch on your puppy nuggets?

Is it so cool to have a burn-out for a Prez? 20 years is all it took to go from “I didn’t inhale“ to a complete waste for who ”chooming” was just the start of his drug use.

I do think we need to DRUG TEST him .. he works for us .. any employer I have had can drug test you at any time. Perhaps this is one of the reasons we can’t see his medical records?
