‘The West Are Terrorists’: Gadhafi Vows ‘Long War’

PBS:
Gadhafi promised a “long war” in an audio broadcast played on state TV, Gadhafi said “we will not leave our land and we will liberate it” and claimed there were protests “everywhere” against the coalition action. He also said Tripoli would arm its civilians to fight back.
“We will exterminate every traitor and collaborator with America, Britain, France and the crusader coalition,” the Libyan leader said, according to media reports. “They shall be exterminated in Benghazi or any other place.”
State television said 48 people died in the U.S. and European strikes.
The New York Times reports that some Gadhafi supporters have gathered around his compound in Tripoli to act as human shields and show their support for the Libyan leader.
And military-watchers are asking whether the U.S. is playing a leading, or secondary, role in the operation as well as about the future for Gadhafi after the international intervention.

There are no civilian muslims. That is what Gen. Patton would have said and done, likewise MacArthur, Churchill and Roosevelt. And the muslim wars will end in a nuclear environment. Posted on March 20, 2011 at 1:53pmObma and his crew, including the MSM, have yet to make a solid case why we’re striking Libya. I see no national interest here for us. I don‘t see much in the way of ’humanitarian’ causes either. Once the opposition took up arms en masse against the government, they stopped being civilians and became a revolutionary army. They captured cities and, if they weren‘t able to sustain the fight against Gadhafi’s military, so be it. No Americans were menaced, except maybe four reporters who went missing a few days and were released unharmed.
It’s not like Gadhafi ordered a terror bombing, like he did in 1986 in Germany that killed two US soldiers, for which Reagan promptly bombed Libya in retaliation. Note, too, France refused to allow our F-111s based in Britain to overfly their territory. Instead, our planes had to take the long way around, entering the Med from the Straight of Gibralter after multiple in-flight refuelings both ways.
I can’t see any valid American interest in this. Any benefit goes to Europe, in the form of Libyan oil supplies continuing to them. Libyan accounts in Germany are frozen, those accounts used to pay for oil. I wonder now–after this is all over, will the Euros try to renegotiate a lower price for what they already received? Their economies are on the ropes, too, so maybe they figured out a way to capitalize on a crisis in Libya and save a few hundred billion dollars.
However it works out, we’ll be the ones expending the most in treasure.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 12:54pmWhat I would like to know is, when the US takes on an endeavor such as this or Iraq, why don’t we focus on taking out the dictator first? Why don’t we cut off the head of the snake first? Yes we feel the need to do something from a humanitarian standpoint to help stop the slaughter of thousands of Libyans or Iraqis. But it seems like if we go to the root of the problem, if there is no one to give the order to fire on the citizens and suppress them, then that would severly hamper that effort. If other action after that is needed then so be it. I have always thought we should have leveled Sadam’s palace and killed him, and then walk away to let them sort it out from there. Instead of nation building. How is a no fly zone going to stop what’s going on there on the ground? Does that mean ground troops in the future? We should assassinate Gaddafi just like he assassinated those people on the airlines and his countrymen, and be done with it!

Recall Obama has already signed a Executive Order/Decree of Fiat enabling the assassination of an American citizen without trial or due process, along with the assassination of terrorist leaders in the field, so he already has set the precident for the matter.
Also, Quaddafi if I remember correctly, is the military leader in addition to the national leader of his country; so in a military action, there may be grounds for making him a legitimate military target as Reagan struck at him back in the 80s.

Mar. 19, 2011 – 5:02 PM ESTIn 2007, Senator Obama said this:
“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation”
Obama went on to say that the President could constitutionally deploy the military only “in instances of self-defense.” Nobody is arguing — nor can one rationally argue — that the situation in Libya constitutes either an act of “self-defense“ or the ”stopping of an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
How, then, can Obama’s 2007 position possibly be reconciled with his ordering military action in Libya without Congressional approval — which, of course, he has not yet done?
Democrats and the Left constantly argued the same thing during the Bush years: that Presidents lack the power to order military actions in non-emergency, non-self-defense situations without Congressional approval.
They even constantly claim that Bush’s war on Iraq and Afghanistan were “illegal”, depsite the fact of U.N. Resolution 1441 that authorized military action, and Public Law 107-243, which passed Congress by a large bi-partisan margin authorizing Bush to use military force.
Where’s the Left on this Libyan issue? Quite. Silent. Nowhere to be found.
In fact — many are cheerleading this little war as if Libya was part of Obama’s NCAA brackets.
And PS: where’s the authorized funding for this?
More silence from the Left.

hmm so obama got us into a war without asking congress ?
Status quo. We haven’t declared a Constitutionally authorized war since December 7th 1941.
Report Post »Another step in the Executive centralizing its power unconstitutionally toward dictatorship.
And before you huffpoo idiots get crazy, Bush did the same same thing and the Patriot Act is another example of Bush gathering power to the Executive.
A succession of acts that must be reigned in by Congress and if necessarry, the Supreme Court.

What I would like to know is, when the US takes on an endeavor such as this or Iraq, why don’t we focus on taking out the dictator first? Why don’t we cut off the head of the snake first? Yes we feel the need to do something from a humanitarian standpoint to help stop the slaughter of thousands of Libyans or Iraqis. But it seems like if we go to the root of the problem, if there is no one to give the order to fire on the citizens and suppress them, then that would severly hamper that effort
That’s like asking “Why not just go right after Bowser in Super Mario Brothers?”
Report Post »In order to reduce the risk for the piolets, you have to eliminate their air and counter-air power. You can’t just send Rambo in and put a .45 to gadafi’s (I’m done trying to spell it right) forehead and pulling the trigger.
Although with current technology, I‘m wondering if that isn’t step #2, and the final step…

You ask: “What I would like to know is, when the US takes on an endeavor such as this or Iraq, why don’t we focus on taking out the dictator first? Why don’t we cut off the head of the snake first?”
Too much money to be made here to just simply find a quick resolution. Gotta stretch it out, use up some arsenal. You know, get some money flowing through D.C. and the lobbyist.
I don’t know. Our corrupt federal government has made me one cynical s.o.b.
