The World Could End Like This: Stunning Video Simulation of Asteroid Hitting Earth

From the website Big Think comes this video simulation (scroll down) of what would happen if an asteroid hit the earth, as it did over four billion years ago. This asteroid’s diameter, 300 miles, is larger than the main island of Japan, and is the same size as the one that hit earth four billion years ago, evaporating the oceans, according to the film.
So what would happen if such an asteroid hit the earth?
First, “The crust of the earth is peeled away like an orange skin.” The shattered remains of debris would be hurled out into space. The rim of the crater would be higher than any mountain range on earth today. “And this is just the start,” the narrator explains.
Then, the heat. The earth could get as hot as the surface of the sun. “Heat really is the killer,” says Brown University’s Dr. Peter Schultz. The energy would “literally fry…any living organism that would exist”
One day later, all life on the planet would be vaporized and the earth would look like this:
The oceans would start to bubble and boil. One month later, the oceans would be gone completely. Apparently, an impact like this has happened six times in the earth’s history. Let‘s hope it doesn’t happen again.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 2:20amThe scenario I read is in Revelations 6 .. the mountains and islands moved out of their places (earthquakes like Japan) … sun black and covered as with a sackcloth of hair … the heavens rolling up like a scroll (Pole Shift) .. 100 lb hailstones .. sounds to me like possible effects of a flyby of a 2nd sun Failed Star called a brown dwarf (Nemesis, Nibiru, Planet X, etc)… Question is: Is Comet ELENIN that brown dwarf? Or is it coming later on? How many “planets” (they’ll call them moons) are orbiting the dwarf? what other asteroid and comet junk did it’s gravity drag along with it? Brown dwarfs are too small to ignite their “nuclear fire” and will just emit INFRARED (see the IRAS satellite from 1983), deep red visible light (dim) and NEUTRONS (not good, not good at all)… they can have a series of rings from the “failed ignition” which will look like thick cloudy rings (sack-cloth of hair?) .. maybe obscuring the sun? It would be a wild ride to say the least… stock up on food so you get to live long enough to see the whole months long show! The SIXTH SEAL.
Revelations 6
Report Post »[12] And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
[13] And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
[14] And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
[15] And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
[16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
[17] For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 4:16amNot only Revelations chp 6 but also chp 8. Any one of these could be applicable.
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
Report Post »8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 5:48amIn all actuality we were the target of many large strikes, one of which created our moon. Orbital information indicates that the moon is getting a little further from the Earth each year. It will take about another six billion years before it is so far way that it will leave Earth’s orbit, though they estimate that the Sun will become a red giant before then and swallow up the first four planets in the system. The odds of such an event happening are less than the odds of hitting the lottery on any given Saturday. It is the ones that are 1000 ft to 10 miles that are the one to worry about as they could create major damage on the low end to life extinctions on the high end such as the Yucatan impact crater on Mexico’s eastern coast created an estimated 65 million years ago.
(And yes this will upset some of the hardliner religious guys but I don’t believe that the Earth is only 6000 or so years old. I do not believe that the creator (call him/her/it what you will) works in human time scale. I can also see that the creator looks in on Earth and says no, I do not like what is gong on there and fixes things (drops a rock on the planet every now and again, causes a flood, inspires someone, etc.) to his liking or plans.)

Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution says “Congress shall have power to … declare War”. Okay as far as that goes, but the Constitutional issues aren’t nearly as clear as you guys may think. From Wiki: American Presidents often have not sought formal declarations of war, instead maintaining that they have the constitutional authority, as commander in chief (Article Two, Section Two) to use the military for “police actions”. According to historian Thomas Woods, “Ever since the Korean War, Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution — which refers to the president as the ‘Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States’ — has been interpreted to mean that the president may act with an essentially free hand in foreign affairs, or at the very least that he may send men into battle without consulting Congress.”
Not saying I agree with that, but the fact is that the United States hasn’t “declared war” since WWII. And you may have heard of US military conflicts since WWII where there was no declaration of war by Congress: you know, the Korean War, Vietnam, the Gulf Wars, Afghanistan and so on. If Obama has acted unconstitutionally, so has every other President for the last 65 years.
For a complete list of wars not declared by Congress, visit this link:

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 9:42pmSpeckChaser, thanks for the polite response. I disagree with of course! but I think this is an important point.
Yes, a single Democrat in Congress called for an impeachment on Constitutional grounds (so did some Republicans I believe). But he doesn’t speak for all Democrats any more than that Koran burning pastor speak for all Christians. Anymore than any than any single person speaks for an entire group, especially a group as large as Democrats, let alone an entire religious group.
I don’t speak for all liberals, and you don’t speak for all Republicans or Libertarians or whatever group. It’s easier to make sense of the world if you think there are these huge blocks of people are robots who share the exact same opinion and who vote or act in lock-step.
That’s not reality though. People aren’t either right or wrong, good or evil. The world would be a simple place if everything was black or white, but it’s not. Mostly it’s gray..

I respect your opinion and I am glad there is no concerted effort to silence it. I saw your post cheerleading Media Matters for claiming victory for denying Beck’s freedom of speech. What was it? Media matters 1 Beck 0. I saw it more like, the eroding of our Constitutional Rights 1, America 0.
I have the same opinion of Matthews, Oberman, and Media Matters that you have towards Beck and other Conservatives. However, I do not call for, nor do I hear anyone else on my side calling to silence their voice.
I know the world is not black or white and you make the best decision with the information available. What bothers me is people who are great at pointing the finger at others when they are incapable of seeing their own flaws.
Here are two examples. Harry Reid stood on the Senate Floor and said the majority of Americans don’t even like the Tea Party; they only have a 47% approval rating. At the same time Obama’s approval rating according to Gallup was 43%. That says a lot about Reid.
Also, for years we listened to Liberals talk about how Bush’s spending was going to bankrupt the country. Then Obama outspends 8 years of Bush in two, yet no word out of Liberals other than he spent that much because its Bushes fault.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 3:16pmDEB C—–Monsanto is not poisoning us WE ARE. Roundup is relatively safe to use if you follow the manufacturers instructions. Most people, however, can’t &%#%#ing read. They believe that if one ounce to the gallon of a herbicide or pesticide is good, then two cups to the gallon has GOT TO BE BETTER. That ain’t necessarily so. I’m not defending or promoting roundup or its use; nor am I defending or promoting Monsanto per se. I’ve used roundup as an over spray on very fragile ornamentals with no ill effects to them. I’ve used commercial roundup concentrate straight from the drum to kill poison ivy that was intertwined with other more desirable plants with no harm to myself, the plants I wanted to save, nor I believe the environment. It’s all in how you use the product. Spray paint has its place, it just ain’t right to sniff it.
