These Are the 15 Most Prosperous Retailers in the World
“Global retail sales are expected to slow this year as China and the rest of the BRICs [Brazil, Russia, India, and China] face tightening monetary policy and weaker demand abroad,” Rob Wile of Business Insider writes.
Well, that’s the takeaway from Deloitte’s annual ranking of the top 250 retail chains by sales at least.
While figures in 2011 saw some decent gains — U.S. sales grew 7.7 percent — Deloitte sees the world economy decelerating in 2012, according to Wile.
“Retailers targeting upscale consumers could see a more favorable environment,” Wile writes, “But the average consumer remains on uncertain financial footing and will seek out lower costs, the report states.”
The most successful retailers are a mixture of superstores, grocers, drug stores and wholesale providers. The leaders are U.S. firms, but Germany makes a fine showing.
Here are the 15 top retailers as compiled by Business Insider:

Even though i live near a Krogers, i go out of my way not to shop their because the store is very dirty, the meat in the cooler case seems much to warm, and the employees are rude, and most of all even if the first 3 problems were corrected, i still would not shop their because their is a sign on the door saying UNION EMPLOYEES work here, And i in my personal life, and for my small business, will always go out of my way NOT TO USE UNION. UNIONS SUCKS i will not give UNIONS my business, my money or my vote.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 12:16pmI never stepped inside an Alid’s until I started looking seriously for ways to reduce my grocery bill last year. I use coupons, so I can get all the brand-name stuff cheaper elsewhere, but Alid’s is excellent for produce, milk, eggs, flour, sugar and other staples. The store is not fancy, you have to buy bags or bring your own, and you have to put in a deposit to get a cart (25 cents) but I save a ton of money there. Also, when I look around the parking lot, I see more and more expensive cars. Everyone’s trying to be a better shopper in this economy.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 8:48amRead the labels and check out who makes the product…communists. LOL
Ask a retailer how much they make an hour…some high skills are paid less than those who have low skills…It’s a strange world of dysfunction.
and yes I’m a conservative but there are inequities in retail..
And the customers are rude, ignorant and simply mean. But the sales associate is to smile and suck it up, eh?
Next time you go to a retail outlet, put the product in the right place if you aren’t going to buy it, control your children, don’t eat and walk the isles…and stop being nasty to the min wage workers…you are creating a class of people who hate you…
I laugh when I see high end cars like Mercedes,Porsches etc parked at wally world. If you can afford such a vehicle you need to be buying at the higher end stores and keep the union employee employed. LOL
Just saying.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 11:38pmThe link to this story is an excellent example of what the Blaze should NOT do in the future. Why couldn’t the Blaze just type out and executive summary in order of store rank and gross earnings? We’re all adults, why do we have to play “click through the website” in lala land just to get the information? There’d be a lot less confusion, that’s for sure, look how many people couldn’t even figure out Walmart was #1 on the list.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 10:41pmExrepublisheep, Wouldn’t it be great to buy any product you wanted from the US? It would, but we can’t because our government incentives offshore companies to do our jobs cheaper than we can. Then you actually have the union leaders themselves saying that the workers of the world should unite and join in a social justice movement which through Marxism. This means that the unions leaders will be fighting for global control of labor and the wealth must be redistributed. The union leaders will still sit upon high, but the laborers underneath their feet will be reorganized as political pawns to be used as political leverage globally. So, for that to be achieved, wealth must be taken from our union workers and shifted to other nations in order to collectively round up the proletariat against the bourgeois. Of course, for union workers in 3rd world nations to be elevated, the Marxist playbook calls for leveling of the earnings of all the workers. That means the union workers of the US must give up their jobs to the underprivileged overseas and an equilibrium of global unemployment and poverty will be spread around the world. It doesn’t make anything better for our citizens, but does benefit other nations as the Marxist agenda continues to promote that we need to shift wealth from the US to other nations. It‘s by design and it’s what’s happening right now. That’s why the administration gives money to companies to close up and leave the US.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 11:31pmI am unaware of any companies being paid to close up and go off overseas by the Dems at any level. I actually agreed with Ross Perot about globalization and the “giant sucking sound”. We need to set-up and enforce protectionist policies for the American worker but NEITHER party will accept that as it might cut into profits. I don’t know what to do about it but in the meantime I will buy American whenever possible and take whatever small comfort that gives me.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 10:26pmWalmart’s prices went up after Sam Walton died & a board took over management of the chain. Service dropped off when they put the welfares & handicapped to work & they started importing goods from places like Vietnam. They made a lot of people very unhappy on those fronts. Then they closed out some of their popular departments in a very typical corporate-run decision & tried to convince their customers they are more upscale. They made a lot of towns unhappy when they built new Walmarts 10-15 miles apart, drove out all the established competitors & then closed some of those Walmarts down. Loss of established jobs, loss of Walmart jobs, loss of new jobs. A very typical modern corporate-run entity. Montgomery Wards went much the same way. So much for statistics… I don’t shop at the new one here because they are now more expensive & the quality has declined. My oldest son refuses to shop there because it is too difficult to navigate the store & the lack of service is appalling. Sam Walton had a good idea… It‘s too bad his successors don’t share it.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 11:25pmWalmart prices didn’t go up when Mr. Sam passed on April 2, 1992. They went up when Mr. Glass retired and the board turned their back on what Mr. Sam built. Walmart has not won a price survey for over two years because they need margin to pay for the head office personnel. They put in an item file for every store in order to raise margins effectively throughout the country. Mr. Glass only allowed a second item file to be established in Puerto Rico due to the cost of transportation of merchandise to the island. Then eventually, each new country had their own item file. But, one for each store?
Report Post »While they are trying to bring back Mr. Sam’s company culture at this time, it may be too late for them.
Personally, I pray for their leadership and hope they have the guts to cut out the bureaucracy that has made them a slave to high prices.

Posted on February 3, 2012 at 9:32pmThis makes perfect sense and fits right into Obama’s social justice agenda of spreading the wealth. His agenda, crafted by hard left socialist institutes delivered to him to implement as policy outright called for a draining of the US economy to foreign nations in order to boost global social justice at the cost of every US citizen which delivers a major blow to the US economy so that it can be reformed into a true global socialist economy. Radical leftists like Obama and Soros and the other socialist and communist nations believe that the economic assets of the US should be taken from our nation and redistributed to the rest of the world and that will take us down, by design. Stopping and reversing the Marxist agenda that has caused this means that Obama must be defeated in November.
