For the last few days, Earth has been bombarded with radiation as the strongest solar storm since 2005 raged. This geomagnetic storm has resulted in a wealth in stunning videos of the northern lights. The lights were most vibrant in northern Europe, but did reach into Canada and Alaska.
Watch this extremely vibrant footage from Sweden by photographer Chad Blakley:
Check out the footage compiled by the Associated Press:
Here’s a short but sweet clip taken from Old Knik River Bridge in Alaska:
Here is footage from Trondheim, Norway:
Watch the show from Finland:
Here are photographs sent to us from Jason, a Blaze reader, from Fairbanks, Alaska:

An aurora appears when a magnetic solar wind slams into the Earth’s magnetic field, exciting electrons of oxygen and nitrogen.
The northern lights are sometimes seen from northern Scotland, but they were also visible Monday night from northeast England and Ireland, where such sightings are a rarity.
Peter Richardson, a 49-year-old bar manager and part-time poet at the 17th-century Tan Hill Inn in northern England, said the pub – normally dead on a Monday night in January — was thronged until the wee hours of the morning with people who came to look at the lights.
“I just thought: ‘Oh my God, this is just absolutely amazing,’” he said. “You do get a lot of spectacular skylines out here, but that was just something out of the ordinary. Very different.”

The sun is likely to get even more active in the next few months and years, said physicist Doug Biesecker at the U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.
“To me this was a wake up call. The sun is reminding us that solar max is approaching,” Biesecker said. “A lot worse is in store for us. We hope that you guys are paying attention. I would say we passed with flying colors.”
NASA has also released footage of the storm happening on the sun itself. Check out the following two videos:
Scientists have been expecting solar eruptions to become more intense as the sun enters a more active phase of its 11-year cycle, with an expected peak in 2013.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on January 25, 2012 at 4:35pmSaw this in Ontario Canada when I was about 18 working in a Mining camp in the isolated north… It swirled like that above me I was freaking out thought GOD was about to suck me into the sky… it is surreal…. and the other comenters are right, video doesn’t do it justice… It is the single most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life time.. And it is 100% GOD stuff. Chinese go to Yukon territories and pay thousands just for a chance of making a baby under these lights, some sort of superstision involved there..

Very interesting about the Chinese going to make the babies. Wonder if they are still permitted to do that!

Posted on January 25, 2012 at 4:27pmThe WARNING WILL BE A DRAMATIC EVENT IN THE SKIES.
My daughter you must do everything you can to warn the world. Because this great event will shock everyone. They will see great signs in the skies before The Warning takes place. Stars will clash with such impact that man will confuse the spectacle they see in the sky as being catastrophic. As these comets infuse a great red sky will result and the sign of my cross will be seen all over the world by everyone. Many will be frightened. But I say rejoice for you will see, for the first time in your lives, a truly Divine Sign that represents great news for sinners everywhere.
See My cross then and you will know that My great mercy is being given to each of you, My precious children. For it was with the deep abiding love that I held for you that I died, willingly, on the cross to save you. When you see the crosses in the sky during The Warning you will know that this is a sign of My love for you.
Pray.My beloved followers that your brothers and sisters can rejoice when they, too, are shown the proof of My existence. Pray that they will accept that this is their chance to redeem themselves in My eyes. That this great act of Mercy will save their souls if they will allow Me to help them.

Posted on January 25, 2012 at 2:13pm@commonsensethinker……yes science created the northern lights. But what created science? And what created the matter that created science? hmmm……wait was it monkeys right or some space matter that grew an ear on a rock that formed into a human being somehow? I know its hard to wrap your very liberal head around it but there is a God and he created human life and the sky above. Say what you want but your going to have to come to a realization at some point in your life. Unfortunatley for you it will be to late I bet.

Report Post »Well I’m not going to spend too much time but it just shows you your ignorance first to call me a liberal when I am quite the opposite.Second, if you think god invented science you are more whacked than I thought. Humans invented science, science is just a word to explain things of science unless you are just going to say well, god infused science into our brains so that we can have science. Uhhh, Ya!! ,That’s the problem with believers they always have to answer a question with god said this, god made this god made me do it god ,god, god ,god, and then everything is justified , What total B.S.
AND ALL THAT WITH ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TO BACK IT UP . Oh, except god LMFAO!
Physicist_In_Training
Posted on January 26, 2012 at 2:11pmWow that’s really quite vitriolic and offensive. Don‘t you think you’d do better to attract people to God by, say, trying to be Christlike? And PS it is a measure of your own ignorance that you would even say something like “liberals believe science created the northern lights.” Umm…science doesn’t create anything, and those who attribute import to science would never think something like that. “Science” is the act of observing and describing the universe around us. It does not “create,” it explains and models (or tries to). As a physicist, I cannot tell you how irksome it is that so many people accuse us of trying to replace God with science. We do nothing of the sort; in fact, more physicists than not are religious (predominantly Christian). Science seeks to describe the universe around us; it does not even attempt to answer the philosophical question of how the rules which govern the universe and life came to be. Get off your high horse and do a little research before you drive people away with your ignorance and arrogance.
And for the record I am a conservative.

Report Post »BlackCrow
Posted on January 25, 2012 at 3:21pmVideo cannot do it justice! There are colors that the cameras cannot catch interlaced with the green. Shades of purple, orange pinks that you need to be their in person to see. Then there are the rare red auroras, in twenty years in Fairbanks I saw one red one.
Problem is the foolishness of standing outside with your mouth hanging open at 30 or 40 BELOW zero watching the lights.

Posted on January 25, 2012 at 1:13pmAre we sure these beautiful lights weren’t caused by H.A.A.R.P. (High Frequency Active Auraol Research Program) directing millions/billions of gigabytes of volts into the ionisphere. It is the new weather modification and mind control Star Wars Defense Initiative (SDI) weapon of the US military. HAARP is capable of creating weather like hurricanes and tornadoes and tsunamis and earthquakes. It is also capable of altering peoples moods. From WETA TV a PBS station. Run a Google.com search for HAARP.

Report Post »BlackCrow
Posted on January 25, 2012 at 2:55pmYou are so mis-informed about the HARP, what it is and how it works it is not funny. Look up Phased Array Radar, read up on it then apply the same principal to HF, LF and VLF frequency radio transmission and you have HARP. This is a beam steering experiment.
But it is much more fun to bite on “Dr.”Nick Beggich (who got his Phd when he bought a truckload of herbal vitamins) and the rest of those tinfoil hat idiots who have NO expertise in radio engineering. Myself? 30+ years as a radar engineer including 20 years in Alaska that occasionally took me to Gulconna and HARP to do maintenance on the aircraft warning radar at the facility.
And it’s Giga-WATTS not Giga-bites. And you need to read up on the inverse square law before you start getting all excited about that much power. By the time you get to altitude we are talking about milliwatts even microwatts per square meter. Don‘t know what I’m talking about? Then you either need to look it up or go looking for Bipidus Giganitcus.

Please do‘nt bring up the whole air thing where it’s not visible but you now it’s there and need it to breath. Heard it many times and is just a silly false statment. Once again science and chemistry prove that air exists. I know that I can never change your mind in your beilief as well as you will never change mine. Posted on January 26, 2012 at 2:22pmAw gee are you serious?! Several of my classmates and I drove north past Preston just to camp out and hope to catch a glimpse of this! One of the maps we saw predicted that this could potentially have been visible from latitudes as low as those in the entire northern half of the US. We drove past Preston, ID to get away from the lights and be just at the southern end of the NH extent of the aurora. Unfortunately it was too cloudy…but nonetheless, the aurora at latitudes that low is pretty exciting.
