‘These Hordes’: UCLA Student Posts Video Rant About Asians

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles said Monday he was “appalled by the thoughtless and hurtful comments” that a white student made about her Asian classmates in a video that has drawn national attention.
Alexandra Wallace posted a three-minute rant on YouTube called “Asians in the Library,“ in which she criticizes the school for accepting ”these hordes of Asian people” who she said have no manners and invite their extended family to visit on the weekends. The UCLA political science student also faulted Asian students for disrupting her studies at the library by calling family members in the wake of the tsunami.
“I’ll be in, like, deep into my studying, into my political science theories and arguments and all that stuff, getting it all down, like typing away furiously, blah, blah, blah, and then all of a sudden when I’m about to, like, reach an epiphany, overhear from somewhere, ‘Oh ching chong ling long ting tong, ooohh,” she said.
UCLA Chancellor Gene D. Block said the video doesn’t reflect the views of the university community
“Like many of you, I recoil when someone invokes the right of free expression to demean other individuals or groups,” he wrote in a statement posted on the university’s website.
Wallace, who couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, issued an apology to the university’s Daily Bruin newspaper on Sunday, calling the video inappropriate.
“I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would,” she said. “I would like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus.”
University officials are evaluating whether there have been any violations of the student code of conduct and what sanctions if any are appropriate.

Not appropriate in this time of disaster for the Japanese (as she’s referred to by her tsunmi comment and then self-realized how it ‘sounded horrible’, as it did). On the flip side; so where’s the “Crackers” vid, YouTube??? Also, as a PoliSci (and the ‘Sci’ part is spin) major, this girl is probably from a lib background.
Report Post »Having grown up in a place ruled by dems for its entire American history, this place (HI) is definately racist – they even have a whole day dedicated to racism. It‘s called ’Kill Haole Day’. It’s the last day of school where you try to beat-up/kill someone who’s obviously white (haole). Not everyone subscribes to this (especially in the more recent past), but it’s still very much there. That said, Aloha and vote (D) – ‘kill crackers’, ‘kill haoles’ – it’s your historical right (BTW, ‘crackers’ were D’s). Peace out Y.

Suppose Ms Wallace was fluent in Japanese and knew exactly what her fellow student were saying to the folks back home and spoke that truth, would her “ manners” be suspect then? Would her honesty be demeaning?
When a congressman speaks publicly about Americans being uninformed with regards to how the politicians understand a more complex government, is he not disparaging those he refers to as “his constituents or his voters ”?
Ms Wallace disparaged a race of people. Our politicians disparage the very voters that put them in office.

Our college had a huge asian studies program & I can tell you, the Japanese are some of the most well-mannered people I have ever seen. Since she obviously has an “elitist” point of view, she’s probably pissed b/c her boobs don’t get her the grades she feels she “deserves”. Go away little girl, return to the dancing pole.

However, it really pizzes me off having to listen to people talk so loudly on their cell phones. In a library, it would make me furious too. It’s bad enough at a store having someone scream into cell phones so everyone for 3 aisles away can hear them. It’s bad manners not to leave the room. @NZKIWI who is married to a chinese, he agrees, they lack common manners we’re used to in America.

By the way, the ones she is referring to, who speak the “Oh ching chong ling long ting tong, ooohh,” aren‘t the ones with the high IQ’s. The high IQ’s come from East Indians, who are also Asians. If you put, say…. 20 Germans in a class with 20 Polish people and give them an IQ test, could you really say that Europeans all have high IQ’s, when you know darned well that it was the Germans who were superior??? The fact that it makes national news says more about how skewed our priorities have become. Somehow I don’t see this ditzy girl as a big threat. She talks about getting some great inspiration before being interrupted. What is that exactly ? “Note to self get blackout drunk and maybe sleep with random guys this weekend ?” It speaks to the quality of student intellect they post a video showing obvious racism on the unforgiving internet. She is so dumb as to think no one is going to take offence to this ?
Further what does political science teach ? It teaches exactly whats on the tin, or it should. World politics and various systems of government. At some point the ideas of what makes a good candidate should be in that class. The student should thus know about posting your views online and how that can be the death of a politician.
She has obviously learned nothing outside of keeping her twitter feed up to date. Parents of this woe begotten waste. Pat yourselves on the back, your own racist ideas shine through with polish.

And I am not offended by her remarks, in fact I agree with most of them. Manners are important, as is consideration for others – especially in a library. I have come to know many Chinese through my wife and they can be quite inconsiderate of others. My wife says that it is a cultural thing. Common courtesies are not emphasised in China.
I remember when China held the olympics and the Chinese government handed out leaflets on the importance of courtesy to the residents of Beijing.
Once they know that they are irritating people, they make an effort to be more considerate. Or at least the ones I have met did, anyway.

Another thing is that while I have no problems with Asians or any other race as long as they are trying to cause trouble, I feel that anyone has a right to speak up when someone else does things with total disregard for other people around them. If they don’t wish to be “disparaged” then they should respect others as well.

It was after 11PM and I was trying to rest and sleep in the room waiting for the doctors and nurses to attend to a relative. These stupid freaking a-holes who don’t know how to act in public start yelling across the halls about their personal business and work schedules. Yes, I’m talking about the employees, not the public! I was so infuriated, that I started to respond to their conversations by yelling responses to their questions from the room. Within minutes, they had security come over to me and tell me that “I” needed to be quiet! I told security that a hospital should be as quiet as a church, a movie theater, or the library and if these idiots don’t know how to talk in a hospital, then maybe they should be escorted out the hospital. I left the hospital and waited in the parking lot so as not to cause a greater scene. The people yelling were asian, black, latinos, and whites. They were yelling in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and every freaking language you could think of. They’re all idiots! Let me calm down, I don’t want to get a heart attack and end up back in that emergency room.
