‘They Lie! They Lie!’: Frustrated Megyn Kelly Yells at Obama and Romney Campaigns for Dishonest Ads

On Fox’s  “America Live” on Monday, host Megyn Kelly aired her frustrations regarding what she says are dishonest presidential campaigns being run by both President Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, accusing both of “talking out of both sides of their mouth.” As Kelly got more frustrated, the louder the host’s voice got.

Kelly began by laying out some of the real problems facing the U.S., including 23 million unemployed Americans and the $15.8 trillion national debt. She also tore into the media for buying into the campaign nonsense.

“News headlines are replete with ‘Did Mitt Romney have operational control of Bain Capital from 1999 to 2002?’ and ‘Does Barack Obama owe Mitt Romney an apology for some senior aide saying that he might have committed a felony?’” she said. “There’s such a turnoff, both sides, the way they run this race. The American people are disgusted with this kind of politics. Am I wrong?”

“You’re absolutely right,” agreed former George W. Bush adviser Brad Blakeman. “I think the American people want to get onto the real issues at hand, and neither the president or Mitt Romney are actually addressing those issues. But let’s face it, Obama has invoked a 3-D strategy: distract away from your own destructive policies, distort Romney’s record, and divide the American people rich against poor.”

Kelly then turned to South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian and asked why both campaigns are seemingly focused on such irrelevant topics, likely echoing the thoughts of many American voters on both sides of the political spectrum.

Megyn Kelly Rips Obama and Romney Campaigns For Dishonest Ads

“Are we getting the truth? Are we getting to the issues?… Brad doesn’t like what President Obama’s arguing about Bain Capital, but Mitt Romney comes out, ‘He should apologize,’” Kelly said, imitating Romney in a mocking tone. “I mean, Really? Is this how we’re going to spend our time?”

Not surprisingly, Harpootlian accused former President Bush of using the same tactics as Obama when he ran against Democratic nominee John Kerry in 2004.

“I think at the end of the day Mitt Romney‘s got to put out 12 years of income tax returns and show the American people that he hasn’t been – ” he started. But Kelly wasn’t having it.

“Really?” Kelly said, cutting him off. “Really?… But you tell me whether those unemployed, you know, 26 million or underemployed give two figs about Mitt Romney’s tax returns from ten years ago.”

“They don’t. And this is only to be used, again, to divide, distract and distort the real issues which the American people care about,” Blakeman said. “We have a president about to go on television and went on television on Friday, and the message that he was giving was very destructive. And it was not hopeful about our future or what he’s done for the country and the same thing can be said about Romney –”

Then Kelly unleashed some bipartisan fury.

“Oh, but they both do it,” Kelly interjected. “They both talk out of both sides of their mouth. Like, President Obama, he wants credit for being positive, for being such a positive messenger, and so does Mitt Romney. And when they sit down with an interviewer one-on-one, oh, they’re very positive. But when they get off camera, Dick, when they go to the ad campaigns, they’re completely negative.”

“And they lie! They lie!” Kelly said, raising her voice. “Mitt Romney put out an ad about Solyndra that The Washington Post said was full of pinocchios and not true, and Barack Obama did the same thing about Mitt Romney’s time at Bain Capital.”

“Does truth matter anymore at all in the political process?” she asked.

“I don’t think so,” Harpootlian admitted.

Megan can get angry all she wants, but most american voters seem to love this type of campagning. When a person lists good and proper ideas in the campaign odds are they will not get elected, but when they lie and sling mud, we love it and elect them. Look what happened to Ron Paul.

I have made up my mind and have tuned the campaign crap off. I am supposed to read/watch a variety of news casts , and they all say the same thing. I get more from foriegn newspapers than US Papers.

Obama has outsourced more jobs and also made us pay for the outsourcing. And Obama close economic advisor outsources jobs and he and Obama laugh about it.

Interesting that while she said that both campaigns lie. She only sites examples from the Obama campaign. Which of course makes her guilty of lying within her own story. And yes the fact that Romney is hiding both how he made his money and how he has invested it to avoid paying as much taxes as possible through loopholes for the wealthy is relevant. Particularly since wealthy individuals and large corporations provide campaign donations and pay lobbyists to get such benefits through the tax system. Does Megan Kelly really think she is genuine, honest or professional when she puts on these types of charades??

JRook, did you even watch the video. She gave one example of lying from BOTH campaigns. You liberals only hear what you want to hear and see what you want to see. You never want to take responsibility and you always point fingers at the faults of others. The South Carolina guy had that same attitude the whole interview. Not once did he take responsibility. All he wanted to do was point at faults of the Republican party and hide behind the excuse that this is how politics have always been done. Not once did he address whether it was right or wrong and this is the same tactic that liberals use day-in and day-out.

Exactly right. Romney has 59 specific action points to pursue once he gets into office. He introduced these points last year. At the time, the media complained that it was too specific. Now, after a year, they complain that Romney has no plans, nothing.

The point is, Romney has to battle on short talking points. Most people aren‘t even going to go on to his website to research the candidate’s ideas. Nothing out of Obama’s mouth has been truthful. I‘ll have to see where Romney’s ad was wrong about Solyndra, but Romney has been a lot more truthful in his attack ads than any other candidate.

@JROOK: Do you pay as much taxes as possible? Better yet, did you know you can pay more taxes than you are required? Do you? If not, why not? Don’t you know the government has over 20 million mouths to feed? That’s just unemployed, we haven’t mentioned their children or inmates that all have to be fed and taken care of. So, I ask, why haven’t you given your 100% of earnings… sorry, Obama said you didn’t actually do that, 100% of your paycheck to taxes?

I agree and disagree with her. Agree they are both not speaking on the real, dangerous issues we want to hear – but it’s not just what she thinks. Yes – economy, taxes, jobs – Mitt & his campaign advisers are doing great with that but live in the 50‘s world of politics and don’t get who they are really dealing with & that most of the Consv. want to hear the truth also about Obama’s background as Communist/Marxist, as well as his appointees and chief advisors plus showing a list of his lies to show how you can never believe a word he says. The pundits on Fox don’t get it either – only Hannity comes close. They’re all naive and not well informed about these truths it seems and/or if they do, don’t want to mention it. It’s not lying to just state facts and then say “we report, you decide”. That “negative” is needed!! Only thing you shouldn’t do is lie.
I doubt if Romney’s ad was lying – you can’t trust what the Washington Post says, Megyn. One thing Romney isn’t is a liar – unlike Obama. Maybe too naive though. What I can’t stand is he still says what a “nice guy Obama is, but he just doesn’t understand” garbage. NO, he is NOT.
A lot of people also don’t understand or care about the debt, economy, taxes. Half don’t pay it. Talk about Obama as a danger to the future of our country. No, that is not too “negative” and not a lie.

      @MOMPRAYN

      Right on!

If the majority of Americans understood Obama’s roots, education and ideology, then they would understand his comments. They would see that the America Obama believes in is not the same as the America they (hopefully) believe in, but it is never discussed.

Romney may think government has the answers to some problems, but as Glenn says: “At least he’s not a communist!”

The Ron Paul folks still think RP has a chance, but he was defeated in the primary. He couldn’t even get the nod from Republicans, how is he supposed to win the country?

This election is down to 2 people (3 if you count Rosanne Barr), and if we loose this, it’s lights out.

Yeah Bro Ed, Paul was defeated in the primaries because of fraud and deceit, but that is what Republicans today must thrive on, deception from their leaders. The lawsuit filed just may open the door to RICO charges, but you guys just do not seem to care. No wonder both Romney and Obama feel that it is OK to not be totally honest in their campaigns. At least when Paul spoke, he spoke about true Constitutional issues. He told the truth on everything and that is why the media caused all of you to turn your backs to him, with deceitful coverage of Paul. So don’t sit there and say you do not think Romney is lying, he has been lying to voters to get elected in several elections. If a candidate has to move their position to the left, right or center in order to win your vote, they are lying to you, period. That is something Paul has never done, move his position to try and win your vote. Honesty is the best policy. What ever happened to our belief in that? No wonder we are in such trouble, Americans act like a bunch of kids that NEED a nanny around.

Surprisingly, I think Megan did a pretty decent job here.

Yes, voters want to hear where the candidates stand on the issues. My question is, “where does Romney stand on ANY issue?” What is his immigration policy? What is his tax policy. What’s he going to do to create jobs? Where does he stand on Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan and the war on terrorism? What does he plan to do on military spending? I think he won’t take any positions on any issue, and rely instead on dissatisfaction with the worst economy since the Great Depression (which started in 2007). Does anybody know where Romney stands on any issue? Anybody?

Blazers, I know you will only vote for Romney because you hate President Obama. Okay, fair enough. But does anyone here care to give all of us the benefit of your knowledge on any of Romney’s positions?

I have no problem with RP. I just don’t think he can win.

It is one thing to have principles, and sometimes the cheese stands alone, but a leader is a leader because he can convince people to follow. Sometimes the ideals are enough. Sometimes it takes a little give and take. It is true that he is the most constitutionally minded guy running, but it is also possible that we are so far gone as a country that the founding principles seem radical.

As the Tea Party continues to educate Americans that small government and personal responsibility are the pillars of liberty, things will change.

Right now, however, Mitt has the best chance to defeat Obama.

The bookies will be happy to take the money, but it‘s better to put the money on a horse that’s in the race, not one the should be in the race.

I get the emails from Rand, most people brush them off when I mention them. That is sad, because I think he is right. But even he is backing Romney. Let’s keep educating America and fighting the good fight. But let’s recognize that this may take a while.

Oh I don‘t think he’ll win either, Brother_Ed. Do you remember way back at the start of the primaries when he, himself, said he thought it was very unlikely he would win? So, you may ask then why is he doing this? The simple answer is to “build up the remant”. Check out this Tom Wood‘s’ article. I don’t think anyone can explain it better than he can.

Okay, so what lies has Romney been telling? Asking Obama to apologize for calling him a felon is not a lie. Giving a speech in front of the closed Solyndra building doesn‘t make Democrats happy but it isn’t a “lie”, either. What was the lie?
