‘They Were All Trying to Get With Her’: 18-Year-Old Wins $500 Bet By Seducing His Teacher

Usually, in stories surrounding teachers dating students, the assumption is that the teacher is a predator exploiting the innocence of the student involved, even when the student in question is technically above the age of consent.

But what about when the student can definitively be proven to be the pursuer? That’s certainly the case in the case of Eric Arty, an 18-year-old high junior at Manhattan Theater Lab High School, who was videotaped smooching his 26-year-old global studies teacher Julie Warning in a New York City Park. This video, courtesy of the New York Post, shows the incident:

How do we know Arty was the one pushing for this? Because he and his friends apparently had a $500 bet going as to who could seduce Warning first. Gives “Hot for Teacher” a whole new meaning.

The existence of the bet has been corroborated by multiple students. As one student put it, “They were all trying to get with her.”

And reportedly, none so more than Eric Arty.

And despite having been arguably seduced, now Warning is facing sanctions by the Department of Education (though not criminal charges because Arty is of age). She was hastily transferred away from Manhattan Theater Lab High School to an administrative desk job, but apparently failed to show up for that new position. The Daily Mail reports:

The case has been turned over to the Department of Education Special Commissioner of Investigations and Warning was reassigned.

However, school officials said Warning did not report to her new job yesterday and could not be reached for comment.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said: ‘It’s my understanding that she did not show up to her reassignment center.

“So we‘ll do more investigating on why she hasn’t shown up.”

Apparently, Warning was considered quite a catch at her old place of work. Also, the sparks between her and Arty were reportedly noticeable enough for other students to comment on them. From the Daily Mail, again:

Maia Torruella, 16, said: “This has probably been going on for a while now because the signs have been there.”

“The way they act together… When he walks into the room, her face lights up,” she said. “And when he’s gone, she’s boring. You can tell he’s still on her mind.”

“They’re always so nice to each other. He flirts with a lot of girls, sure, but Miss Warning, ohhhhh!”

Presumably, the revelation of the “bet” coupled with the extremely negative press attention this story has gotten also means the two lovebirds have broken up. Hope the $500′s worth it.

No word yet as to whether this story will make an appearance as a plotline on “Glee.”

Excuse me? I know plenty of good looking white women that are more than happy to go out with nothing but men outside their race, and not all white women with black men are fat and ugly.   @Tripleds Oh sure… that’s all she did wrong. What a moronic viewpoint. So, injecting sex into the class room is passive in your book? Being so easily manipulated is ok in your book? Subjecting the other students to their “courtship” is normal? Failing to be professional means nothing to you?
  
  You see nothing wrong with this because it doesn’t affect you in any way. Furthermore, in your insulated life you can’t see the anarchistic overtones it creates. Classrooms need to be run by teachers. Not peers. If the lunatics were not running the asylum then maybe… just maybe… Arty wouldn’t be an 18 year old JUNIOR.

  By depriving her students of her full and professional attention, she created mistrust, distraction, controversy, angst etc in the classroom and throughout its halls. This has contributed nothing to the education of students present therein. She is the adult and has the responsibility to be an adult…which means nothing today. The real story here folks is not what happened between these two socalled adults but how we got here in the first place. The damage to the younger minds in the district will be untold, now you’ll have a continued breakdown of teacher student relationships which will be even harder to enforce because who now can take them seriously.

  Are you all really mad that she won’t get fired? She is a 26 year old woman fresh out of college and he is a sly 18 year old. In case you can’t do the math, There is only 8 years between them. I had an aunt and uncle who were married for more than 25 years and raise 3 great kids before my uncle died from his battle with lung cancer. Oh, and they were 12 years apart in age. i believe they met when she was ~20. So when I hear stories like this, I really don’t care.

  @ RangerP, your assumptions about what others would think are arrogant and completely wrong. I know of a teenage woman dating a man who is 28 and no one, not even her parents are upset by this. You need to get your nose out of everyone else’s business and mind your own. Remember, the legal age of consent in alot of states is 16, so the only thing “wrong” here is a teacher student relationship between two consenting adults. Right now, my state and alot of others have been weighing the option of creating a law that deems student teacher relationships as a criminal act and currently, those against making such a law are winning because we see how stupid such a law would be. So even though what they are doing isn’t what most people would consider “normal” or “kosher”, doesn’t mean that anyone is breaking the law. So if they aren’t breaking the law, what the hell are people like you whining about?

  It’s not always about breaking the law. Did Weiner break the law when he advertised his d-k on the Internet? This is worse because it breaks down the moral fiber of our schools, where kids acquire a good portion of their ethical standards. If you take the school out of this case, I agree that it is a non-story, but as the person who gets to teach and grade these kids, this woman should have felt ethically constrained from having sexual intimacy with one of her students, regardless of his age.
  
  It wouldn’t be a stupid law. Biologically, they are both in their sexual prime or close to it, so these unfortunate instances will continue to happen unless a law puts a stop to it. As a Paulist, you defend moral anarchy, but most Americans understand that good ethics are what keeps us from becoming Africa or Holland.

  I see that CHARACTER and HONOR has failed us when it comes to education. When I was in school we NEVER heard of incidents like this. The complete FAILURE of ethics is beyond question. I could care less their ages, WRONG is WRONG even if it does not break a law. She signed a Code of Conduct. She FAILED! 50% of the problem is hers, and 50% is his. However to her career and her lack of teaching ability that is 100% HER fault. She should be fired on the spot not transferred to another position just because she got caught doing something that broke her teaching contract agreements.

  Right. What the trolls and leftists in general know but wish to obfuscate to camoflage their own shortcomings is that laws will never correct ethical failings. Only if most are constrained by ethics and principles well shy of legal limits can laws protect the rest of us from the few who engage in hedonistic behaviors.
  In this case, this teacher’s lack of clear and consistent boundaries that any supposedly intelligent professional and their supervisors would have set by default encouraged not just one student to cross a boundary but an entire group of students to declare a goal of reaching well beyond a reasonable boundary. This is an appropriate commentary on the lack of professional expectations and outrage among educators for this type of behavior.

Who is supposed to be the adult here? Teachers are not supposed to be dallying with students. Period. Any teacher who gets involved with a student, whether or not they are 18 is too stupid to be a teacher. Of course it’s a challenge. If the student graduates & they become just 2 consenting adults, then I don’t care what they do. But as long as one party is a student, then the preponderance of favoritism & wrong-doing is a problem. Does the student get a better grade for bonking the teacher? Does the teacher punish the student for not proposing marriage? Who in their right mind would want to get involved with some jerk who can’t even pay their own way yet? Get real.

Is there any vetting done of prospective teachers? Entrapment or not, this is unacceptable behavior. I know it’s hard to get good help, but this is ridiculous.

Shut it down…just just the whole thing down. The people will figure out a way to teach their kids what’s necessary. I can’t help but believe that public education in large part is becoming a liability to this country. I’m thankful my kids are in a great district with great staff.

These young teachers that hook up with students are a disgrace. So this is what happens when God and morals are taken out of school. Everything is PC, sex ed, classes on socialism, and other crap. Time to go back to basics and have a moment of silence to pray or just think. Teach responsibility and reward achievement. Get rid of unions and Dept. of Education.
