‘They’re Fighting!’: Riots Break Out on UMass Campus After Patriots Super Bowl Loss

A riot broke out on the campus of the University of Massachusetts — Amherst on Sunday night after the New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl.

Edward F. Blaguszewski, a university spokesman, told the Boston Herald that 14 people were arrested, including 13 students, for disorderly conduct after campus police fired smoke bombs and pepper balls to break up the mob. He said that over 1,500 people had joined the disturbance.

Police had to use smoke grenades to disperse the crowd and even rode in on horseback.

Blaguszewski added that the commotion was over around 10 p.m. and that the students arrested could face suspension.

The incident was captured on video and several of them were posted to YouTube (content warning for language, although the first video is “clean”):

Some even chanted “USA!” before the police moved in:

These girls captured it all from high above, and at one point claimed someone had a gun, although it’s unclear if they were referring to a student or the police. They also noted the rioters threw beer at police:

A product of our “everyone’s a winner” mentality instilled into our children. As children they stomp their feet, as young adults they riot. It’s really sad what we have done to generations of Americans. This is the result. And just this morning I heard of the Georgia school that will not give out zeros and will allow kids to retake tests until they pass. All that school is doing is creating future rioters who cant understand the concept of loosing. Maybe the Patriots should have replayed the game until they won?

@cessna152 Or perhaps it is the every decline example of true sportsmen they are exposed to. Belichick’s filming of the other teams signals and play calls comes to mind. The constant recruiting violations committed by our great leaders in college coaching. Or perhaps the stature of the average professional athlete who is more worried about their “brand” LOL than playing the game with respect and sportsmanship.

I live in Georgia. We got a paper with my kid‘s project instructions that said if a kid doesn’t attempt to do the project, they’ll get a 50. But if they do turn it in, then they’ll be graded accordingly. So basically, if you do the project very poorly, then you could make less than a 50. Where’s the incentive? Seems to me to be some monkeying around with the “No Child Left Behind” B.S.–or the school funding for having good grades.

Exactly. Maybe these temper tantrums could be avoided by the NFL handing out “Participation Awards”. Just melt down the Vince Lombardi Trophy and start issuing MIchelle Obama Participation Plaques. And while we’re add it, force the NFL to be renamed to the National Fairness League.

Unfortunately, the real insanity is that there are people out there, including in our government, who would take the above seriously and think it’s a good idea…..

PLUS, I think they completely lack respect of others. Let alone a respect for others’ property!!

    My son calls from college:

    Hey dad, some game huh?
    Me bummed: Yaaa…
    Brady went out fighting….
    Me: Yaaa……
Well it was a good game even though your team lost.
Me: My team?! Whose side are you on?
HAHA Just kidding dad, tough break though good game well get em next year… Go Pats!
    Me: Thanks son. Go Pats!

And THATS what these lemmings should have done…
“Darn, we lost. Oh well, next year!”

Nope, lets become anarchists for an hour just to tick off the establishment!
I bet half of them have never seen a football field let alone know the game….
I hope most are recognized and expelled but I know… they need the money and one or two of them have parents who are alumni with top 10 donations…. blah blah blah…

    Its a shame really.
Thank goodness there are Pats fans with class…
    I love my Patriots!
    Go Pats!

Did you know: The Patriots were the first team to be introduced in the Superbowl as a team? That was after WTC in 2002 their first win. Very emotional win for me and my family that year… Faithful to a team that was taken as seriously as the Phoenix Cardinals.

I think the win for the Giants was the hardest for me because of what New York represents. They claim social freedom but at the cost of personal and religious freedoms? People blindly claim they love living in a house that sells for over 2 million when you could by a colonial home with a breezeway and 3 car garage on 20+ acres of land and have enough money to get your kids Ma

      @RagingJudge

Boy I wish I could disagree with that but I remember Massholes when people would cry at the Star Spangled Banner, and kids went every year with their school to learn about Lexington and Concord and Paul Reveres ride… and Sam Adams, but we used to pray in school then too. and elders were revered and someone to listen to… The last one who came to school had two warnings: Never owe anyone anything, always pay them ASAP no matter what and most important, pray (Yes, this was a public school).

Sadly Mass has turned from a “melting pot” into a cesspool these days and it only getting worse… Fortunately even though the team resides in Massachusetts they represent 6 states. And not all 6 are bad in fact Maine is only Democratic in the south which is a speck in comparison to the rest of Maine (They were also the only New England state to vote for Reagan in 1980). Some have suggested to give it to Massachusetts so they can pay for Romney care… The Northerners are more than happy to give it. Soros being sugar daddy to Pingree however is making things a BIATCH.
As far as Northern Maine goes, people can practice their beliefs with privacy and no harassment. However, if it has a stream or a spring brook running through it, the EPA has “protected” it. When Agenda 21 does come, I’m certain Northern Maine will be the first state to be eradicated of its habitants.

Any of those arrested with student aid, grants, scholarships, should lose it, parents should be notified (if a child of mine were involved, that would be that LAST paid semester and support would end immediately). These kids obviously have too much time on there hands. What’s the matter with parents? What’s the matter with teachers? What’s the matter with our citizens?

There are no losers, at least that is the culture in which kids are being raised, so what else should we expect? Add in volumes of alcohol and drugs and, voila’, an excuse to riot. IF we have an election, and Obama loses, this will look like ‘child’s play’ compared to what we will see. I’m sure it has been in the planning stages for years – in fact, maybe he will throw the election so he can start civil war. I put nothing past these people.

One thing I think we need to remember is that it was our generation that made them into who and what they are. If you grew up in the ‘70s and ’80s you know what I’m talking about.
But still it is no excuse to act like morons.
It’s true that no matter what happens with Obama, there will be rioting in the streets just because they can. We need to rally together to get Obama out of office just like we did with the Congress!
We did it once and we can do it again! I think that many people are sick of the country that America has become…no morals, no respect for anybody or anything, no common decency. I‘m so glad I’m on the downward slope of life because I sure as he** don’t want to see this country turn into a dictatorship!
