A new comprehensive study of religious congregations in the United States has resulted in a detailed look at the most — and least — religious counties in the country.
The 2010 U.S. Religious Census: Religious Congregations & Membership Study, released this month, features a county-by-county assessment on congregations, members, adherents and attendance for 236 different faith groups.
Of metropolitan areas with populations over 1 million, Salt Lake City was deemed the most religious, with nearly 74 percent identifying as religiously adherent (defined as “all those within a congregation,” including members, children and attendees who are not members). At the other end of the spectrum was the Portland, Ore. area with just 32 percent identifying as such.
The following map shows a higher concentration of religious adherence (55 percent or higher, yellow and orange colors) in counties the Midwest and South, and a lower concentration (0 to 44.9 percent, blue and green colors) in counties in the West and Northeast.

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 3:35pmIt is inconsistent to state lds and mormons are the most faithful….they may be in attendance or “faithful” to their religion or church or false prophet BUT being faithful to anything other than Jesus Christ is rather like a waste of time…..” The ONLY way to the father is through the SON, I am the way the truth and the light”….He didn’t add or you could just follow some knuckle head CLAIMING to be as good as Jesus when he comes along latter…hate to burst your bubble boss BUT despite Glenn’s ravings about us all being ONE we are not. There are saved Christians who believe and love the lord and His plan, and there are the rest. Hopefully some day you will see the error of your statement and become one of us under the protection of the Shepard and we can meet someday in Dad’s house. Which state has the most prominent yellow and orange areas- UT! Home of the LDS Church. Since this study was to illustrate the faithfulness of the givne counties that make up America it can be rightly understood that the counties encompassed in the state of Utah as being the most faithful or “religious”.

I often wonder if people actually think about what they write…
“The ONLY way to the father is through the SON…”
Does the above statement, which I believe is true, imply TWO people?
Aren’t Christians told that the two greatest commandments are:
1) Love God with all your heart, and
2) Love your neighbor as yourself?
You may believe differently than the Latter Day Saints, but to continually disparage them and belittle them seems to be un-Christian.
Do you rail against any other church who believes differently than you?
Is it best to sprinkle, or dunk?
Wine, or water?
Saturday, or Sunday?
Should women be priests?
Did your preacher go to seminary, or did he have a dream?
Do you even need a preacher?
And on and on and on…

Posted on May 21, 2012 at 12:52pm@BROTHER_ED – arguing the difference between a “trinity” and the “Godhead” using English never turns out well :) I’ve had that discussion on this site many, many times and whenever the word “trinity” comes into the conversation plural suddenly means singular and when this little fact is pointed out our Father in Heaven suddenly become “incomprehensible.” Then Matthew 3:16-17 really makes their heads spin (as well as their answers). But still – well said! :)

Posted on May 21, 2012 at 3:14pmBible thumper – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints adheres to the entire New Testament and we are followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We don’t pick and choose from the doctrines.
Christ taught that in the last days there would be false prophets. He also described the test for determining a true prophet from a false prophet. Time will reveal that Joseph Smith and all of those faithful prophets who have followed were called of God to lead Christ’s Church.
What baffles me is that so many claim one of the few Churches that carries the name of Christ and believes in all of the teachings of the New Testament including divine revelation is not Christian. When truth be told, it will be hard pressed to find a more devout congregation of worshippers of the Lord Jesus Christ than temple worthy, temple attending members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I can only guess that for an atheist or non-believer, having to indulge the possibility that nature’s awesomeness actually had a Creator behind it would place upon them the responsibility to seek Him out and His will for their lives. Never the less (and I don’t mean to be harsh here) at that last second before they draw their last breath and darkness begins to come upon them, I wonder what goes through a committed atheist’s mind (thoughts). It is in God’s heart that all would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. The thief found salvation at the cross, so I’m compelled to believe it’s never too late.

If you hold no positive belief about something, how is that going to make you do anything? This myth about atheism causing the atrocities of soviet russia, or other similar regimes is nothing more than that, a myth.

Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Lenin, the Kim’s of North Korea
Do any of those guys come across as someone who doesn’t believe in the existence of a higher power?
Hitler constantly wrote about a Creator in his book. You had to swear an oath to the almighty to be loyal to Hitler. The belt buckles of Nazi’s read “Got Mitt Uns” or “God with us”
When Kim Jong Il was born, legends are that the mountains shook and the birds sang. Another legend of his is that during his first round of golf he had 11 holes in one. Do any of these scenarios sound like men who only thought of themselves as men?
You can have religious people who are good and bad’
You can have atheists people who are good and bad
A religious person who murders might do so because they think their God told them to, they might get a reward of they feel their faith is under attack. They are still psychopathic murderer.
A atheist person who murders does so simply because he/she is a psychopathic murderer. They don’t do so because their atheism told them to, or that they might get a reward in the afterlife.
The common denominator is evil.

Posted on May 20, 2012 at 1:51pm@gitrdone – yes there’s plenty of evidence. And Utah has the highest of people with suicidal thoughts according to Utahs office of vital stats. Do you read? Or does all your info come from the radio idiots that tell you what to think?

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 2:13pmYes .. they have high attendance .. it isn’t counting those who believe in God or pray … .it is counting attendance .. a much different thing … many churches have gotten so “progressive” that they have lost parishiners … I left the Methodist Church .. does NOT mean I left God.

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 12:48pmHow did Oregon become almost entirely blue? Did atheists all decide to move there?

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 1:05pmYou ever been to Oregon? Oregon is a FAR FAR FAR left state full of atheist progressive “forward” thinking LGBT smelly dirty hippies, especially the valley in cities like Portland (metro), Salem, Eugene, Ashland, Medford. I’m kinda shocked about the counties in eastern Oregon…it’s very cowboy, farmer, family oriented, rancher, conservative, Christians.

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 4:34pmI live in Oregon and have for my entire life. In the 1970s we painted a sign on the highway tarmac: Welcome to Oregon, Now Go Home. That’s when the lefties started coming. They’ve come and taken away our forests with the spotted owl and stolen our simple farm/forest/fish way of life. We’ve been outvoted ever since. As for eastern Oregon. It can be over 100 miles to the nearest church out there. Please don’t judge Eastern Oregon by its color. I suspect this map might look a little different if they adjusted for population density.

Posted on May 19, 2012 at 12:46pmI find this interesting being this is Pentacost week,Jesus Christ accending in Heaven. KJV JOEL Chapter 2 verse ten, The earth shall quake, April 11th this yr we had a perfect pacific ring of earthquakes, notably one name caught my attention was near the town of CONCEPTION Chile. The heavens shall tremble: the SUN and MOON shall be dark, and the stars shall with draw their shining. Interesting that we have a ring of fire eclipes this sunday. This sunday is the 20th, 20 means redemption. It’s also interesting to note what happen on this week 32 yrs ago, Mt St Helens erupted, verse 30, And i will show wonders in the Heavens and in the earth, blood, man on the moon. and fire, and pillars of smoke,Mt St Helens. Helen in the Greek means light. The number 32 means GODS covenant.

The Olympics start on the Ninth of Av (AB) on the Hebrew calendar (Both Temples were destroyed on this day, Jews expelled from Spain, Hitler’s final solution started on the ninth of AV.Many more events happened to the Jews on this date in History) The Olympics will start on the tenth day of Ramadan.(Muslims fast during the hours of daylight for a thirty day period.).They are protesting about this already as it will give them an unfair advantage to their athletes.
